SUBO BORACAY: Have you tried Reconstructed Filipino Food by Chef Jian Sacdalan?!

SUBO is a Filipino restaurant serving reconstructed Filipino food by Chef-Owner Jian Sacdalan, located along Calle Remedios in Station 3, Boracay. Former chef Sunny de Ocampo may have moved on to other projects, but the Subo concept lives on in the island.

The design and interiors are unlike any of the restaurants I’ve seen in Boracay. It's not your typical kanin sa kaldero-sabaw sa palayok kind of Filipino restaurant. Subo takes inspiration from well-known Filipino dishes and serves them in not-so-familiar ways.

Here’s what to expect at Subo Boracay…

MATIAS BBQ: Cebu’s Favorite Barbecue Spot! (Review)

Matias BBQ

One favorite street food of Pinoys is barbecue–pork or chicken meat or giblets skewered on sticks and cooked over a charcoal grill.

For Cebuanos, the go-to place for barbecue is Matias in Mandaue City. Nestled under the shade of sweet star apple trees, this open-air eatery sells very affordable pork barbecue, chicken barbecue, chorizo, pork belly, balbacua, and other local dishes.

The secret to keep locals coming back is their delicious sweet red sauce and value-for-money dishes.

Here’s what we liked at Matias…

RICO’s LECHON: “Da Best Gyud” Most Awesome Lechon in Cebu!

Cebu: Rico's

Eating Lechon is central to your Cebu experience! Dubbed as the “Lechon Capital” of the Philippines, Cebu prides itself in having perfected the art of roasting pigs, and in the tastiness and crispiness its lechon is known for.

We asked locals where we could find the best lechon and they all pointed us to Rico’s Lechon, pioneer of the famous Spicy Lechon. Owner Enrico Dionson likes to keep things simple–his roasted lechon is only seasoned with traditional herbs and spices and has always been since he opened the business in 1997.

Their slogan, “Da Best Gyud”, lives up to our expectations. Indeed, it’s a lechon worthy of being called the best in Cebu. The restaurant also likes to stay ahead by adding Pinoy favorites to the menu other than lechon.

Here’s what we liked at Rico’s…

Kainan sa Dalampasigan-17.jpg
KAINAN SA DALAMPASIGAN is a must stop over place when passing by Nasugbu town en route to the beautiful beaches in Nasugbu.

We revisited the place last weekend with the 4 boys on our way to Club Punta Fuego. Here's our experience…

CUISINIERS Pork Skewers: @Chowzter Asia’s Tastiest Regional Specialty! @MercatoCentrale

Text by Paul Wenceslao

Filipinos love their barbecue. Taken as a snack or a main proponent of meals, barbecue is commonly found on the streets, restaurants and the dinner table. Chef Raymund Fabre and entrepreneur Raphy dela Cruz banked on that fact when they decided to open a booth at Mercato: Cuisiniers. They went on to develop succulent pork and chicken barbecue and eventually roast beef and sisig.

Fabre and dela Cruz are big on taste. They came up with barbecue marinade that is not overwhelmingly sweet, which blends perfectly with the meaty flavor of pork and chicken. Cuisiniers’ barbecue attracts flocks of hungry folk, and people are known to order multiple servings of rice for good reason. It even won an award: Best Pork Skewers for Food Magazine’s Barbecue Cook Off competition.

In the Chowzter Asia 2015 Awards, it was recently recognized as the Tastiest Regional Specialty in Asia 🙂
