Announcing… THE CHOICE 2017: People’s Choice Restaurant & Hotel Awards in Manila! Vote Now! (until July 23)

The-Choice-Awards

Every month, every week, and almost every day it seems, there’s a new restaurant opening in Metro Manila. There are a lot of great new dining choices, side by side with the perennials, the classics that we grew up with. As food bloggers, writers, and members of the F&B industry, we’re always very curious about the crowd favorites.

The popular vote, if you will. So, Our Awesome Planet, the Blogger Collective known as the KTG (Kain Tulog Gang) and World Food Expo (WOFEX) have partnered to conduct the People’s Choice for their Favorite Food, Restaurants, Bars, and more …. or simply, “The Choice“.

You can participate and answer the survey here –> The Choice 2017 Survey

How to Build Your Own Solar Lamps? @LiterofLight #SolarLampsforMarawi

Solar Lights.jpg
Liter of Light, is a home-grown, global, grassroots movement that is committed to providing affordable, sustainable solar light to people with limited or no access to electricity.

One of the most common figures in off-grid communities is the kerosene lamp. These lamps provide light to the families at dinnertime and the kids as they study at night. However, these lamps are not the safest sources of light – they pose a grave risk of burning down the household if left unattended.

oap-lol-8.jpg

Illac Diaz, founder of Liter of Light, decided to take this everyday object and convert it into solar lamps. We were given a chance to learn how to make these kerosene lamps into the much safer and sustainable solar lamp, courtesy of Liter of Light.

They provide all materials and equipment necessary to build a solar lamp.

World Street Food Jamboree through the Lens of LG G6 (Photo Essay)

I love how the LG G6 captures food shots with ease thanks to its Food Mode setting. It’s perfect for events like the World Street Food Jamboree!

Aloo Tikki

Aloo Tikki from Manla Chaat (India) was the hands down favorite in the recently concluded World Street Food Festival 2017.

It’s an Indian snack made out of boiled potatoes, onions, and various spices presented in a colorful canvas of vegetables and curry sauce.

Why The World Street Food Congress Dialog Matters? #WSFC2017

wsfc2017post1

The World Street Food Congress convened for the second year in the Philippines. Chefs and culinary influencers from around the world came together for a 2-day conference that celebrated this year's theme: "Re-Imagine Possibilities".

Talks ranged from preserving street food culture to protecting the rights of street vendors and reimagining heritage foods for the younger generation.

This year's conference was made special by a visit from the one and only Anthony Bourdain, who shared his insights on this year's topic and the impact of street food culture in America.

Pictured Top: Some of the World Street Food Congress 2017 speakers and presenters — from left to right: Sau del Rosario (co-host), Richard Tan, Greg Drescher (Keynote), Malcolm Lee, Mai Pham, Anthony Bourdain, Wanda Corazon Teo (Secretary of Philippine Tourism), Ulf Tassilo Muench, KF Seetoh (Founder & Host), Claude Tayag,  Peter Lloyd,  Anton Diaz, Odilia Winneke, Arbind Singh, Prof. Nguyen Nha

World Street Food Congress
The 2-day dialog was a platform where chefs and pioneers could showcase their work and share ideas with each other and the audience.

Some of the Chefs gave demonstrations as they tried to reinterpret simple heritage foods and cuisine for the modern age.

Guests were able to purchase various international street food from 28 hawker stalls that made up this year's Jamboree.
