SOLIBAO: Baguio’s BEST Filipino Restaurant since 1972

SOLIBAO is a home-grown Filipino restaurant established in 1972, now with 6 branches around Baguio and still counting. Its name was inspired by the drums used by the Igorot in the Cordilleras. It is best known for its yummy Filipino recipes like Pancit Palabok, Kare-Kare and Puto Bumbong.

We tried the Solibao which is the in-house resto of the Heritage Mansion. It was my first time to tried Solibao, and here is our experience:

CATANDUANES: Exploring the Catanduanes Isles in Bicol

Catanduanes Day 2 - Bato-20.jpg
Catanduanes holds a special place in my heart because this is where our roots are. My mom was born into the Soria and Rojas families in Bato, Catanduanes.

I remember visiting Catanduanes when we were still kids and I was excited to go back and explore the southern part of the island from San Andres to Virac to  Bato, and all the way to Puraran in Baras.

Here’s a photo essay of our Catanduanes trip:

CATANDUANES Food You Should Not Miss to Eat :)

Catanduanes Day 1-68.jpg

I love Catanduanes food specially the Mud Crabs and fresh seafood, Pili Nut (which is like Macadamia nut), the Catanduanes Cacao, and different kakanins.

Food in Bicol uses a lot of coconut milk (gata) but those in Catanduanes are not as spicy as in other Bicol towns.

I also love the scenic picnic lunch by the beach and boodle fight in Sea Breeze.

Your Catanduanes Trip is not complete without trying these Catanduanes food:

CATANDUANES: PURARAN’s Majestic Wave (From a Non-Surfer’s Point of View)

Catanduanes Day 3 - Puraran Beach-68.jpg

One of the top surfing destinations in the country today is Puraran in Baras, Catanduanes.

It is home to “The Majestic Wave” that top surfers from all over the world visit during the surfing season, July to October.

For non-surfers like us, we love Puraran Beach because the beach area is wide and not crowded, the beach-surfer food is yummy, and you can really smell and feel what clean air is all about. Just be careful because the island life in Puraran will seduce you to stay for a couple more days.

Puraran is the top destination in Catanduanes — here’s a photo essay of our experience:

An Invitation to a 7-Day Culinary, Cultural & Pilgrimage Tour of Northern Italy: Pilgrimage to San Antonio de Padua, Romantic Tour of Venice and Verona, & Shopping in Milan and Outlet Villages!

I would like to personally invite you to join us for a 7-Day Culinary, Cultural & Pilgrimage Tour of Northern Italy!

I’m personally excited about this trip because we will be going on our first European Food Trip in 2013 from Milan, Padova, Venice, Bassano, Verona and Vicenza in the Northeastern Part of Italy.

Also, I’m excited to go finally to a Pilgrimage to my Patron Saint — Saint Anthony of Padova (Padua in English). Saint Anthony is popularly known as the patron saint of lost articles but little do people know that he also helped a lot of Filipino entrepreneur devotees with miracles in their businesses. We will have a Sunday English Mass at Saint Anthony Basilica🙂

Finally, we will go on a romantic tour of Venice, the city in the sea and Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet 🙂  Of course, there will be enough free time to do your own shopping!

Here is the detailed itinerary of our trip to Northeastern Veneto Region in Italy:

PARAGLIDING High in Manila in 2013!

Paragliding in Carmona-123.jpg

Paragliding in Manila started 4 years ago (with only 20 paragliders to date in Manila). It started to become popular when the Main Fly Site in Carmona, Cavite was discovered by Jonathan Thayamora, a 2nd– generation paraglider. The other paragliding flysite is in Saranggani.

Recently, Buko Raymundo – an Airsport Specialist, offered tandem Paragliding in the Carmona flysite to those who want to experience the Paragliding High in Manila 🙂

2013 is definitely the year of Paragliding in Manila 🙂 Check out our Tandem Paragliding experience:

FOOD TRUCK Hunting in LA: @TapaBoyLA, @GrlldCheeseTruk & @WhiteRabbitTruk

Food Trucks in LA!-76.jpg
It was harder to hunt food trucks in LA since it has a wider geographic area unlike SanFo where it is concentrated in the downtown area.

Thanks to Emilie (@Nuts4Pilinuts), a Filipino Food Blogger of Food Truck Adventure ,who is passionate about hunting food trucks in the LA area.

Here’s a photo essay of our food-truck hunting experience and my favorite food trucks in LA:

KOMODO DRAGON’S Lair & the Secret Pink Beach! #Travel2Indonesia

    Komodo Dragon National Park-63.jpg

KOMODO NATIONAL PARK is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature (together with the Puerto Princesa Underground River).

It is the natural habitat of the Komodo Dragons, the world’s largest living lizard, known for their aggressive behavior and mean-looking appearance. There are about 4,700 dragons that can only be found in the islands of KomodoRincaGili MotongFlores and Padar.

They say that the mystical Komodo Dragons are the closest link to the dinosaurs and going to the Komodo Dragon National Park is like visiting Jurassic Park with these endangered species.

It was also a surprise to see one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, the Secret Pink Beach of Komodo Island.

Check out this Photo Essay of our Komodo National Park experience….

MT. BROMO Sacred Mountain Sunrise Experience (Part 1 of 2) #Travel2Indonesia

    Mt. Bromo Sunrise Experience-57.jpg
Smoking Mt. Bromo Volcano on the left

Mt. Bromo is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia (last eruption was January 2011) and also one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java, Indonesia. This volcano is considered sacred and named after Brahma, the Creator God in Hindu.

Early morning is the best time to be there so as to witness the sunrise spread its dramatic light on Mt. Bromo and group of volcanoes in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.  People also got to experience hiking through the sea of sand to reach the smoking Mt. Bromo crater.
