The Philippines is arguably one of the best travel destinations in all of SE Asia, home to 36,289 km of beautiful coastline which includes some of the worlds most renowned reefs, beaches, and biodiversity. In fact, just this year, Siargao, Boracay, and Palawan islands have been ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (respectfully), as the “Top 5 Islands” in all of Aisa. It’s not surprising then, that these prime locations are alluring to travelers from around the globe, people who want to sample the natural beauty of the Philippines.
2018 has been a great year for tourism in the Philippines and 2019 is projected to do even better. So if you are planning a trip to the Philippines for 2019 here are our picks for the best Hotel Resorts to visit in the new year.
Hong Kong is a food trip haven and a good venue for hunting down the best spots where locals love to eat. It’s also a place full of tourist traps and expensive hotel breakfasts for travelers who are daunted by the plethora of options and are clueless about where to go.
It’s best to go where locals go because you are sure that you get to eat yummy, affordable food that comes with a unique experience. If you want to go for a safe option that will guarantee you a good overview of the delicacies you can find in Hong Kong, and at the same time, the authenticity of what you are tasting a food tour could also be an option. Scanning what is available online, we found Withlocals. It seems an interesting concept, of private tours guided by locals, and next time we will be in HK we will try it. it may be worth it checking!
If you are more adventurous a self-made itinerary might be a better option.
We recently had our Business Mastermind with our BizMindShare group over the weekend in Hongkong, so here’s a simple itinerary on how to organize your own Eat-Like-a-Local Food Trip in Hong Kong.
San Vicente is an almost untouched part of Palawan that is home to one of the longest beaches in all of Asia. A rather large municipality, San Vicente itself is divided into a handful of barangays, sleepy towns and villages.
Underdevelopment has seemingly preserved this part of Palawan with tourism in San Vicente being traditionally low compared to the rest of the island. But that will all be changing soon as the people of San Vicente prepare to open up their quaint and secluded part of Palawan to the rest of the world.
As tourism in the Philippines is expected to recover after a slight decline in 2017, the Department of Tourism (DOT) has implemented a series of aggressive and daring marketing schemes that appear to start revitalizing tourism in and to the country. With the Duterte administration’s controversial closing and reopening of one of the Philippines’ top tourist attractions, Boracay, the impacts from such an undertaking have yet to be quantified. But one can hope that the government can actually maintain its new regulations for tourism hotspots.
That’s why all eyes should be on San Vicente as it will be the testbed and ground zero for the DOT’s (newest branch) Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and its bold new tourism initiatives. San Vicente is actually a chance for the Government of the Philippines to get tourism right.
New airports and air travel routes are popping up all over the country with hopes of easing congestion in busier airports and bringing in tourist traffic to newer locations.
With the opening of the new San Vicente Airport, the local government hopes to tap into the expected influx of tourists by developing local attractions and essentially building a new tourist destination from scratch.
It’s a daring plan that will take years of dedication from both the private and government sectors. So far, everything seems to be on track, and the locals seem more than eager to start this new beginning for San Vicente.
Taipei is a definite haven for food lovers. But where else can you go after you’ve exhausted the night markets and other food districts? Located in Breeze Nanjing, one of Taipei’s nicest shopping malls in the Songshan District, is Sanhoyan.
Sanhoyan is not your ordinary Taiwanese restaurant. It serves traditional Taiwanese food with a twist. We went in the midst of a heavy lunch crowd, straight from the airport after a short delay from Taitung. To say we were hungry was an understatement.
Yup, you got that right—15 hours only! Starting October 29, 2018, PHILIPPINE AIRLINES now flies non-stop to New York onboard their newest and most modern aircraft of its generation, the Airbus A350!
This, they say, is the second to the longest non-stop flight next to Singapore Airlines, and it’s the fastest way from Manila to the Big Apple with no more stopovers via Tokyo or Taipei, unlike my experience before that took 22 hours of travel time.
Plus, foodies flying out to New York with PAL, who want to enjoy authentic American steak, do not have to wait before landing to indulge their craving as business class passengers on the non-stop flights to New York will experience top global brand Wolfgang’s Steakhouse gourmet quality steak dinners on board.
Among my favorites in PAL’s prime New York route’s mouthwatering menu were Wolfgang’s Fillet Mignon, Striploin Steak, Grilled Chilean Seabass, French onion soup and the glorious New York Cheesecake.
It was definitely an upgrade experience for passengers flying to New York in Business Class! Check out the new extra wide body Airbus A350…

It was awesome to experience my first river cruise along the Danube River in Eastern Europe with an awesome group of top travel agents from Manila. It’s like staying in a floating hotel, cruising from one town to another while having a lazy champagne breakfast or just chilling on the sundeck or in the comforts of your stateroom.
It’s a lot better than going on an Ocean Cruise because it can dock directly beside the city and you just literally walk into town. The experience is all-inclusive—walking tours from a local guide and eat-and-drink-all-you-can breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Here are the details of the actual Danube River Cruise that we took. There were changes in our itinerary because of the low river level due to a long drought during the European summer season. We had to go by land from Budapest to Vienna and board a different Avalon ship, missing Nuremberg, Germany.
THE BLUE DANUBE DISCOVERY

Bicol has always been a popular destination for both local and international travelers, as it is home to one of the most beautiful works of Mother Nature. Although shy to show its tip on most days, the Mayon Volcano’s perfect cone structure has continued to attract all forms of tourists.
This region is also popularly known for their cooking – especially when it comes to coconut or chili-based dishes. So much so that they have started to package the popular Bicol Express, Pinangat, and Inulukan in frozen bags for people to take home. While those alone already make for the perfect pasalubong, why not try other unique items?
Here are some pasalubong ideas I spotted on my last visit…
Siama Hotel is one of the most visually stunning and beautifully designed hotels that we’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Inspired by the charming countryside of Sorsogon PHL, Siama seamlessly blends natural and modern architecture into a space that is calm and relaxed yet, at the same time, bold and welcoming.
Sustainability and nature, which are reflected throughout the entire hotel, were the main inspirations that went into the design.
Locally sourced materials were used in its construction, and great care was taken to ensure that the hotel has as small an impact on the surrounding environment as possible.
But looks alone isn’t what makes Siama one of our favorite hotels. The service and food are top-notch, and Siama is a great starting point if you plan to visit the many tourist attractions in Sorsogon.
Quietly tucked away on the outskirts of Sorsogon City in the Province of Bicol, Philippines, Siama is a destination perfect for those who appreciate nature, great food and great company.
