INDONESIA: Experience the Wonders of Indonesia on your Next Trip in 2017!

Getting the opportunity to visit Indonesia was one of the most eye-opening journeys for me. Along with 20 style, travel, and local influencers, I traversed Komodo-filled forests and plains, watched legendary sunrises, swam with a hundred species of fish, conquered steep hikes that led to stunning vistas, and immersed myself in a culture that is both unique and unforgotten.

I am incredibly thankful to the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism for making everything happen. Had I not been part of this year's Trip of Wonders, I would have missed out on one of the best trips of my life!

Here are my #TripofWonders highlights in Indonesia …

THE ROYAL AMBARRUKMO: Rubbing Elbows with Kings and Presidents through History

DSCF5468

The Royal Ambarrukmo is more than just a hotel—rather, it is a documentation of the the rich history leading up to its modern transformation. Bearing witness to the turn of the Mataram Kingdom right up to the Indonesian Republic we know today, the hotel was initially a venue reserved for royalty and foreign dignitaries.

Notable names the hotel has proudly hosted are Herman Willem Daendels, who served as Governor General of the Dutch East Indies; Pakubowono X, the beloved Surakarta King; the Kings of the Yogyakarta Sultanate; and the first-ever Indonesian president, President Soekarno.

During the reign of Hamengkubuwono II of the Yogyakarta Sultanate, the hotel was just a simple Joglo—a uniquely Javanese house with a tapered roof that signifies economic status, typically reserved for aristocrats. By the 5th Sultan’s reign, the space was eventually renovated and expanded. Development continued with every generation as did its value. It earned the moniker of Kedaton (house of the king) and became the official residence of Hamengkubuwono VII after his abdication in 1921.

Now as a cosmopolitan space with 5-star amenities and world-class services, the Royal Ambarrukmo invited us for a regal stay in one of Yogyakarta’s top hotels.

AUCKLAND Travel Guide: Lessons in Traveling to New Zealand! @FlyPal

IMG_6617

I’ve been to Auckland twice already and this post is a compilation of our travel notes, tips, and tricks when traveling to New Zealand.

This is also an update on our initial post, First Timer’s Guide to Auckland, New Zealand!

Here are the lessons we learned from our last visit to Auckland…

WHAT TO BRING DURING TRAVEL

Auckland - Waiheke-9.jpg

For this Auckland trip, I used my stylish business laptop bag (Samsonite GT Supreme) that weighs less than 7kg, and a big enough luggage to carry the 30kg maximum bag allowance.

The laptop bag can accommodate up to a 15.6″ laptop, and with a smart sleeve, it easily slipped into my telescopic luggage handle, which I appreciate. I didn’t need to worry about my bag falling, making for an effortless travel. This is very useful especially when I travel with my boys, who love to play around and tend to bump into anything near them.

SASAK TRIBE OF LOMBOK: How Ancient Traditions Still Endure in the 21st Century

Sasak Sade Village

The Sasak, a predominantly Balinese ethnic group, makes up 85% of Lombok’s population. Lombok was previously a feudal state divided into small, ruling kingdoms that followed mixed belief systems such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Animism. By the 16th century, the majority of the Sasak converted to Islam, but maintained old religious practices—creating a uniquely Lombok blend of a Islamic, Hindu, and Buddhist religion jointly called Wetu Telu.

On our #TripofWonders to the Island of Lombok, we paid an essential visit to one of the quaint cultural villages of the area. At Sade, the ancient weaving practices of the Sasak Tribe endure in the midst of Lombok’s touristic development.

KOMODO NATIONAL PARK: On Dragons, Terrific Treks & Pink Beach!

Padar Island

Celineism stands on one of the peaks of Padar Island overlooking the one of Indonesia’s most breathtaking vistas.

The Komodo National Park makes up 26 of the 17,508 islands of the Republic of Indonesia. Situated in the Lesser Sunda Islands between East and West Nusa Tenggara, the park covers 1,733KM squared of land and water. Established in 1980 then officially declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, the Komodo National Park is home to countless aquatic species, coral, and the fearsome Komodo Dragon endemic to the area.

On our #TripofWonders with Indonesia.Travel, we visited 3 of Komodo’s largest islands and 3 of its most exquisite beaches. Komodo, Padar, Rinca are renowned for their scenic landscapes and trekking tours. Kelor, Kanawa, and Pink Beach, on the other hand, are held in high regard for their crystal waters and incredible snorkeling sites. We ventured into rugged landscapes, came face to face with Komodo dragons, and swam in the most biodiverse waters in the world—all in a span of 3 days!

If you want to experience #WonderfulIndonesia, it’s high time you make the Komodo Islands part of your bucket list!

Project Sursuroy: Ultimate South Cebu Tour! @HappyJuanderer

Happy Juanderer: Project Suroy-Suroy

Discover the Queen City of the South–beyond it's famed Sinulog Festival, century-old churches, majestic forts and mouthwatering lechon–through its unspoiled countryside!

Let's head down to the south for "Project Sursuroy", a one-stop tour of the whole of South Cebu! Get up close with the whale sharks in Oslob, swim with the sardine run at Moalboal, go on a canyoneering adventure in Badian, swim in the turquoise waters of Kawasan Falls, hike up to the highest point of Cebu island in Osmena Peak, or go island hopping around its pristine beaches…there's just so much adventure waiting ahead!

Project Sursuroy was first conceptualized by Happy Juanderer Travel Inc. The word "Sur" means south and "Suroy" in Ilokano means "wanderer". The owners started it as a regular travel agency, selling airline tickets and booking hotels, but later found their passion in being the tour operators themselves, allowing them to have fun and also monitor the quality of experience for their guests. At present, they have tours for Ilocos, Sagada, and the most popular, Cebu!

Here are our top 7 favorite picks to complete your South Cebu experience…

BANDUNG: Top Must-See Destinations at The Weekend Capital of Indonesia

Dusun Bambu

BANDUNG, the capital of West Java, makes up one of the largest cities of Indonesia. Highly accessible by train from Jakarta, this weekend destination is heralded for its cultural hubs and factory outlets.

Bandoeng was previously a Dutch Colony. Its cool climate is attributed to its location on a river basin within a group of volcanic mountains. Due to its good weather and fertile soil, the Dutch established small communities and plantations in the area. The communities grew into municipalities and Bandung easily became the Parjis van Java (Paris of Java) with its luxurious hotels, cafes, restaurants, and boutiques.

By 1945, Indonesia earned its independence and the city underwent rapid growth. Scenic landscapes turned into hectic cityscapes, and quaint houses grew into high-rise buildings. Yet, Bandung is one of the most loved cities by locals and creatives.

Here’s how to make the best of your Bandung Weekend….
