CIBO di M Private Dining: A Toast to a Booming Manila Food & Dining Scene in 2014!

CIBO D M Dinner - Our Awesome Planet-25.jpg
The Manila food & dining scene is about to get more interesting in 2014.

I met with Singaporean friends from Sphere Exhibits over a private dinner at Cibo d M, hosted by Marco Santos of Boomerang. Sphere Exhibits, who is looking to expand in Manila, runs the Asian Masters, Food of Asia, and Gusto Italiano Food Events in Singapore.

It was a recognition of sorts of the booming food and dining scene in Manila. They are not the first exhibit company from Singapore who want to expand here, however. Even our neighbors from Japan are starting to take notice of our exciting food industry.

It was my first time to have a private dinner at Cibo di M’s “ComMissary”. Check out this photo essay…

SOFITEL-117.jpg

LE BAR is the lobby bar of Sofitel Hotel, which is a bistro, music lounge, and Galette – Patisserie and Chocolaterie in one. It’s the best place to eat in Sofitel as an alternative to Spiral, where you can enjoy food and pair it with an extensive list of French and European wines.

CAFÉ SHIBUYA: Butter Toast & Ghirardelli Chocolate Frappe!

CAFE SHIBUYA - Mediterranean Spanish - Our Awesome Planet-21.jpg

CAFÉ SHIBUYA is a cafe specializing in Savory and Buttered Toasts and Ghirardelli Chocolate Drinks. Their flagship store is at the U.P. Town Center and its name is based on the Shibuya way of preparing the French Toast.

The buttered toast craze has already captured the hearts of foodies around South East Asia, but it has yet to really take off here in Manila. Heads or Tails tried offering Buttered Toast with Kaya via a stall in MOA, but their thin toast and unexciting toppings didn’t make them a blockbuster hit. Just recently, Once Upon A Milkshake also started offering their own Shibuya Toast.

RAMBLA Rockwell: Spanish Mediterranean Cuisine by Chef Pepe Lopez @RamblaPH

RAMBLA - Mediterranean Spanish - Our Awesome Planet-23.jpg
RAMBLA is a Spanish Mediterranean restaurant from the owners of LAS FLORES, with Spanish Chef Pepe Lopez as head chef, and named after the famous street La Rambla in Barcelona.

They specialize in Catalan Spanish food with Mediterranean influences. Its modern menu is like VASK, using Modern Gastronomy techniques, plus LU’s Mediterranean food.

It was fun ordering something new and exciting. But I think we got carried away trying out all the new dishes and pairing it with wine and their signature cocktail drinks.

Check out RAMBLA this holiday season!

CHAMPÊTRE: Boutique & Restaurant with Chef Marc Aubry and @LifestylePhilip

CHAMPETRE - Our Awesome Planet-25.jpg
CHAMPÊTRE is an authentic French restaurant owned by the family of French Chef Marc Aubry. Formerly known as “Je Suis Gourmand” when he initially ran the resto with some partners, it’s one of the best authentic restaurants in Manila loved by both Filipinos and French alike. 🙂

(Related Blog Post: Aidan’s Je Suis Gourmand Birthday Dinner)

The ambiance and the food is inspired by its name, which means “Country Living”. It has that down-to-earth feel and has consistenty served good French food over the years.

I was invited as a guest by Philip Abadicio on his show “Philip, Lifestyle Guy” to have a nice French Dinner in Manila, with wine pairing designed by Chef Marc himself.

MENTORE: High-End Coffee & Japanese Food Experience by UCC!

MENTORE Coffee & Bar - Our Awesome Planet-32.jpg

We’re fans of UCC’s Hubert Young’s taste for good Japanese food, like UCC’s Tan Tan Mian Tonkotsu Ramen and MITSUYADO SEI-MEN’s Double Cheese Sauce TSUKEMEN!

So when we heard about his new venture, MENTORÉ, we decided to visit their standalone store beside Fairmont. We hesitated at first because it highlights itself as a “Coffee + Bar”, but I’m glad we still went because they actually have a full line-up of the latest in Japanese cuisine.

It’s a nice place to hang out with friends or meet with business partners over good coffee and a yummy selection of Japanese food.

Check out our MENTORÉ experience…
