The first Cross Cultures Dinner in Manila featuring Ethiopian Food was recently organized by Cross Cultures by Cheryl Tiu, featuring Hong Kong-based Helina Tesega of Eat Ethio in collaboration with Chef J. Luis Gonzales of Vask Manila.

Journalist Cheryl Tiu founded Cross Cultures on the premise that food is one of the best and easiest ways to experience different cultures from around the world. Eat Ethio was inspired by Helina's own journey and aims to provide a modern insight into the food and other cultural treasures of Ethiopia.

SIAMAROI THAI: The Best Thai (Hole-in-the-Wall) Resto in Manila? (A Review)

SiamAroi is a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant from Chef Nun and his wife Passon, who are originally from Pattaya in Thailand.  They moved to the Philippines because of their son Kris who is studying in Manila to become a doctor.

Siam is the old name of Thailand and Aroi means “yummy” in Thai.

Most people who have been to SiamAroi like how authentic the food tastes and the quirkiness of the ambiance.

La Comida Mexicana: A Mexican Food Fest @DiamondHotelPH

La Comida Mexicana”, a Mexican food festival at Diamond Hotel Philippines is a celebration of the rich flavors that Mexico has to offer. Running from the 16th of September to the 20th, you can eat your heart out during lunch or dinner at the Corniche. In line with Mexico’s National Day, Diamond Hotel Philippines flew in Mexican chef, Daniela Romero, who prepared more than 30 dishes from her homeland!

La Comida MexicanaChef Daniela is from Sonora, Mexico and has a Bachelors Degree in Culinary Businesses from Universidad del Valle de México. From 2012 to date, she has become the owner of 3 Mexican restaurants called “Las Chulas Restaurantes”. Before that, she has worked with Crowne Plaza Guadalajara Hotel and Ace Adventure Resort in West Virginia.

For 2,550 per head, Team OAP got to try out authentic Mexican favorites like Fajitas, Burritos, Beef Carni, and Enchiladas, among other things.

FAT is a comfort food restaurant featuring "fat" food conceptualized by Chef Mikel Zaguirre of Locavore fame. Renee Figueroa, the owner of Izumi Sake Bar, decided to revamp the concept into what is now one of the most talked about restaurants in Burgos Circle in BGC.

We tried FAT twice, first with the family and then with Team OAP, and here's what we think about it…

EARTH KITCHEN: Our Favorite ‘Relatively Healthy’ Social Dining Resto, now in BGC!

is a farm-to-table restaurant concept from Got Heart Foundation by Melissa Yeung, in partnership with Hizon’s Catering by Chef David Hizon and Chef JR Trani. It serves relatively healthier, yummy comfort food, with ingredients coming from Got Heart Farms in Tarlac and marginalized communities from Luzon to Mindanao.

They decided to transfer their Kitchen 56 Makati branch in Sunshine Place to BHS Centrale (where Tampopo used to be). This is the second branch after their flagship store along Katipunan Avenue, White Plains in QC.

Single Origin Short Ribs

SINGLE ORIGIN is a one-stop neighborhood café in BGC, serving all-day Western breakfast, coffee, craft beers, and spirits by the Nikkei group. Its name is a tribute to Single Origin coffees. 

I thought it was just a coffee and drinking place but I was surprised that it’s actually family friendly and serves good meat dishes.

We tried Single Origin for dinner and here’s what we think about it…
