CASA ITALIA | Ep. 2: The First Italian House Opens in Manila (Video)

How to Build a Resto: Casa Italia (Episode #2): The opening of Casa Italia in Manila

Hi, everyone. I’m Donato from Casa Italia Singapore. Today we are in Manila at Fort Bonifacio. We are in our Casa Italia store. We are testing the kitchen, and we are warming up with cooking, gelato, our pizza, our breads—all our things are ready.

We are doing final testing with the food—with the service, with our coffee, and we want everything ready for the official grand opening. To make our look very, very authentic, everything, every furniture, every little piece on the display is directly from Italy; including the floor, including the lighting, including everything.

You can see all around our design, our interiors are assembled like a traditional fashion Italian house. You can see furniture that resemble the kitchen in the old times. And also in our design, all our counters. We wanted to bring this old fashion kitchen look to make our customer feel at home. That’s what Casa Italia is: it’s a home, it’s an Italian house.

KRAZY GARLIK Revisited: What’s Yummy Now @KrazyGarlikPH x Chef Josh Boutwood? (Video)

(Watch this video about KRAZY GARLIK by Chef Josh Boutwood @KrazyGarlikPH)

KRAZY GARLIK is a homegrown garlic-themed restaurant by The Bistro Group. They recently refreshed their concept with Executive Chef Josh Boutwood.

"Krazy Garlik is all about garlic. And we conceptualized this concept back in 2011 to showcase the versatility of the ingredient, garlic, itself.

So in 2015, we rebranded Krazy Garlik to a new look. We made it a little more hip, a little bit modern. We’ve gone away with the fairytale lines and we’ve created some clean slate lines to the restaurant. This improves the overall ambiance and also improves the dining experience within Krazy Garlik." – Chef Josh Boutwood on Krazy Garlik

For garlic lovers like us, here's what to order on your next dining adventure at Krazy Garlik…

Harry's Cafe de Wheels in Nuvali is the first franchise in Asia (outside Australia) of Sydney's popular beef pie and hotdog place. It's one of the unique establishments that opened recently in Solenad 3 at Nuvali, Laguna.

We tried it despite the mixed reviews and here's what we think of Harry's…

Home of Sydney's iconic meat pie and hotdogs, also offers all-day breakfasts, poutine, country style chicken, desserts and a lot of heart warming meals.

The Smoking Joint-29.jpg

THE SMOKING JOINT is an American BBQ neighborhood joint by Tony Fernando in collaboration with Chef Dino Dizon. It used to be a Knuckle Sandwich Shop by the same owner which is a boxing-themed sandwich shop located along Aguirre Avenue in BF (near Puregold).

We are getting addicted to smoked low and slow meats specially after a football game with the kids in Alabang. Here is what we think about The Smoking Joint…

BUTA + WAGYU: Best Japanese Wagyu Beef in Manila x Korean Recipes by @GraceLeeManila @SMAuraPremier

Buta + Wagyu-29.jpg

BUTA + WAGYU is a Japanese Wagyu Steak restaurant by the Villarica family, who also runs Wagyu Japanese Beef in Makati. The family is the only authorized importer of Japanese Wagyu Beef by the Japanese Government in the Philippines. The beef is air-flown in chilled containers and not frozen.

They only sell Grade A5, levels 9-12 Wagyu Beef (Ohmi, Saga, Kagoshima) plus homegrown organic pork, the source of which are exclusively fed okra and okra enzyme. Hence the name: Buta (Pork) + Wagyu (Beef). They also serve curated Korean dishes from the recipes of Grace Lee’s mom.

Here’s our dinner experience with Wesley Villarica, owner of BUTA + WAGYU (and the manager of Maria Ozawa in Manila)…

Genki Sushi-7.jpg

One of our favorite places to eat in Tokyo with the kids is HamaZushi, where the sushi is served on a conveyor belt and the entire ordering process is automated. Our boys love how interactive ordering is, plus you can make your own green tea, and the quality of sushi is OK.

I’m happy that Genki Sushi opened in the metro with a similar automated concept, with the sushi served via cute trains straight from the kitchen. Here’s our review of Genki Sushi Philippines…

Tasting Room- U.S. Thanksgiving Dinner in Manila!-28.jpg

Glad to be back in Manila just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving with the U.S. Embassy team at Tasting Room, with wine pairing from Happy Living Wines. After a hectic APEC week with President Obama in attendance, we are thankful that everything went smoothly with no security incidents in Manila.

It was my first time at Tasting Room, and we were pleasantly surprised by how good it is amidst the mixed reviews when it first opened.
