BUTA + WAGYU: Best Japanese Wagyu Beef in Manila x Korean Recipes by @GraceLeeManila @SMAuraPremier

BUTA + WAGYU is a Japanese Wagyu Steak restaurant by the Villarica family, who also runs Wagyu Japanese Beef in Makati. The family is the only authorized importer of Japanese Wagyu Beef by the Japanese Government in the Philippines. The beef is air-flown in chilled containers and not frozen. 

They only sell Grade A5, levels 9-12 Wagyu Beef (Ohmi, Saga, Kagoshima) plus homegrown organic pork, the source of which are exclusively fed okra and okra enzyme. Hence the name: Buta (Pork) + Wagyu (Beef). They also serve curated Korean dishes from the recipes of Grace Lee’s mom.

GENKI SUSHI PHILIPPINES: Japanese Sushi Train in Manila (A Review)

One of our favorite places to eat in Tokyo with the kids is HamaZushi, where the sushi is served on a conveyor belt and the entire ordering process is automated. Our boys love how interactive ordering is, plus you can make your own green tea, and the quality of sushi is OK.

I’m happy that Genki Sushi opened in the metro with a similar automated concept, with the sushi served via cute trains straight from the kitchen. Here’s our review of Genki Sushi Philippines…

Glad to be back in Manila just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving with the U.S. Embassy team at Tasting Room, with wine pairing from Happy Living Wines. After a hectic APEC week with President Obama in attendance, we are thankful that everything went smoothly with no security incidents in Manila.

It was my first time at Tasting Room, and we were pleasantly surprised by how good it is amidst the mixed reviews when it first opened.

Hello, I’m Donato. I’m from Rome, Italy, and I’m a chef from Casa Italia. I’m the chef that prepare all the bread, pizza, pasta, gelato, and all the delicious Italian food for Casa Italia.

Casa Italia, which means Italian House, started in Singapore as a gelato store. And slowly along the way, we started to make our own coffee—we roast our own coffee, and then after that we introduce as well the Italian food.

So we make our own bread and pizza, and all the pasta. So I will be here in Manila for conducting the training for the gelato training and for the food training. I will be here to meet all the suppliers because we want to make sure that all the ingredients that we use here are as good as the ones we’re using in Singapore as well—all the high quality ingredients. And then I will train the team here in Manila to follow step-by-step our recipes from the bread, to the homemade fresh pasta, and to all the gelato as well.

Project Wheelchair: 12-Course Lechon Degustation Charity Dinner @PepitasKitchen

Pepita’s Kitchen Project Wheelchair Fund-Raising is a 12-course Lechon Degustation with each course presented by the best chefs and pastry bakers in Manila.

Their passion project started with Dedet and her two daughters, Lileya and Liyora, raising funds to donate wheelchairs as a legacy to their sister Lauren.

With a humble beginning of selling ButterBeer and Chocolate Happiness (Hot Choco) in school fairs, turned into a beautiful full packed 12-course Lechon Degustation at Manila Hotel’s Champagne Room, with successfully raising funds for 150 wheelchairs (P3,500 per wheelchair) for the less fortunate people with disabilities.
