We tried it here when they first opened one Sunday for lunch, and most recently for a Christmas dinner date.

Here’s what to expect at Canton Road…

SAMBA: Manila’s Finest Peruvian Restaurant?! @ShangriLaFort (A Review)

(As featured in 10 Most Awesome New Homegrown Restaurants That Matter in Manila 2016!)

TBEX Opening Speakers Party-6.jpg

SAMBA is the first authentic Peruvian Restaurant by Peruvian Chef Carlo Huerta Echegaray in Manila, located at Shangri-La at the Fort.

We love it because of the ceviche with its leche de tigre sauce, its predominantly seafood and vegetable focused menu, and the flavors of the Peruvian chilis.

We’ve been here three times already–during the Samba preview, the TBEX speakers’ event, and as paying customers for a Christmas dinner with our friends.

Here’s our foodie guide to Samba…

MIGHTY QUINN’S: New York’s Award-Winning Slow-Cooked Barbecue Now in Manila! @MightyQuinnsBBQ

As featured 10 Most Awesome NEW (Franchised) Restaurants in Manila 2016!

Mighty Quinn's

Finally, New Yorks’ famed barbecue joint is now open in Manila!

Mighty Quinn’s is iconic for their New York-style Barbecue cooked the old school way–with wood and time. While they aim to honor their Texas roots, they break away in their use of non-traditional meats such as pork ribs, burnt ends, and heritage livestock.

New Yorkers have raved over their tender and moist beef brisket, savory smokey pulled pork, and impressively massive ribs, all slow smoked to perfection!

What separates Mighty Quinn’s from all the regular barbecue joints is their focus on every part of the menu, from the side dishes down to the drinks. Of course, their meats are still the main attraction.

Here’s what we liked at the newly opened Mighty Quinn’s Manila…

FOO'D

FooDee Global Concepts (the same people behind the successful Tim Ho Wan, Todd English, Mesa, and Sunnies Cafe) has brought Michelin Star Chef Davide Oldani‘s pop cuisine concept FOO’D (/fú-dō/) to Manila.

Chef Oldani defines “pop cuisine” as accessible luxury cuisine with Italian roots, taking the simplest ingredients and turning these into a beautiful dish.

FOO’D’s unique selling point is that they offer Michelin-grade food, fine ambiance, and quality service at a reasonable price, from their P800 three-course menu to their P1,200 four-course menu. And because everything is upgradeable, you can start at P800 then work your way up (you can even go crazy with a P3000 menu and load up on the experience).

GAIA CAFE is a community-based Kankanaey cafe by Gawani in Ambasing, Sagada. Its tree-house-inspired cafe made from scraps is located on a cliff with a 270-degree view of the valley on the way to Sumaguing Cave.

The name means “Mother Earth” in Greek, and they only serve organic, community-sourced ingredients from around Sagada. The menu is mostly vegetarian, but not limited to it.

YOGURT HOUSE SAGADA: Best Breakfast Place in Sagada! (2016 Review)

Sagada Day 1-34.jpg

YOGURT HOUSE has been voted the #1 restaurant in Sagada that every local or foreign tourist must visit as part of their Sagada experience. It’s famous for its yogurt, which is even better than the ones here in Manila.

It’s been very consistent in terms of quality over the years, but its price keeps increasing. It also has very strict rules, which adds to its snobbish appeal.

Here’s what to expect…

LOG CABIN: A Cozy Retreat in Sagada (A 2016 Review)

Untitled

Log Cabin has made a name for itself as a favorite among both locals and tourists in Sagada. This rustic home was transformed into a bar, restaurant, and then lodge in the 90’s by Dave and Janice Gulian.

In its early stages, Log Cabin was a bar exclusively for foreign dignitaries. Food was incorporated into the menu after Dave and Janice returned from Switzerland and experimented with the European palate. A fusion of European and Filipino elements eventually made up the 5-set menu we know today.

Log Cabin is most recognized for its Saturday buffets prepared by French Chef, Philippe Heyer, who has had more than two decades of culinary experience all over the world. Alas, Chef Aklay (his Igorot name) is no longer part of the Log Cabin Family, but the buffet still carries on every week.
