BCN by Rambla: Charcoal-Grill Barcelona-Inspired Restaurant in Makati!

Manila is known to have some of the best Spanish restaurants in Asia. Thanks to the Bistronomia Team, the people behind Las Flores, Rambla, Tomatito and now BCN by Rambla.

BCN is a continuation of the Rambla story—the latter is like the restaurant you would go to in Las Ramblas in Barcelona, the former would be the restaurant you’ll find in El Born or Gracias where the locals would hang out for drinks with friends and family.

BCN reminds us of Estimar in El Born with its emphasis on grilling and seafood, but at the same time of La Pepitas in Gracias with its fun tapas. A bit hidden, it is just the type of Spanish restaurant for foodies looking for better Catalan-inspired food in Manila.

The Red Piano Food and Entertainment: Does this Speakeasy Hit All the Right Notes?

The Red Piano-1-2.jpg

Is it a speakeasy, is it a lounge, is it a restaurant?  To be honest, I’m not quite sure how to define The Red Piano, and the concept behind TRP is something that’s hard to describe.  It’s like a hodgepodge of ideas that came together to make something that is totally unique and, at the same time, a little familiar.

This also reflects in the establishment’s menu where you’ll find a myriad of dishes from all over the globe like Southern US, Spain and Italy.  It’s a surprisingly eclectic approach to a restaurant that pretty much delivers.

The Red Piano-10.jpg

The Red Piano can be found on the bottom floor of Arya Plaza in BGC, Metro Manila. It’s off the beaten path, away from the busier parts of BGC, which is perfect if you are looking for a more laid-back casual dining experience.

The interior, with a modest dining area and bar on the first floor, looks small at first glance. The main dining area and lounge are located on the second level where guests can dine while enjoying live entertainment.

NAMARI: The Best Japanese Teppanyaki We had in Pampanga!

Namari, by Chef Chris Oronce, is a Japanese Bistro in Pampanga that features a Teppanyaki Omakase and an Izakaya-inspired Japanese bar.

Namari is Japanese for lead, a very sturdy metal—a name reflecting the Chef’s successful career despite all the odds.

For Chef Chris, giving back to his native Pampanga meant opening twin restaurants: Namari Japanese Bistro and Cactus Jack American Steakhouse in the new Best Western Hotel Metro Clark (the old Saver’s Mall).

Namari by Chef Chris Oronce-10.jpg

We love the food by Chef Chris Oronce, who worked at the renowned Nobu restaurants in Las Vegas, New York and Shibuya in Japan.

When he returned to Manila, he held the the executive chef position at Wafu in Greenhills, where we had a taste of his teppanyaki omakase. Currently, he is the executive chef of the successful Wolfgang Steakhouse franchise in Manila.

The chef’s new Namari offers Japanese Teppanyaki Omakase experience that’s worth the drive all the way to Pampanga.

KANTO Freestyle: Best Filipino Breakfast in Manila!

Late risers, rejoice! Feast on your fave breakfast food, any time of the day.

Kanto Freestyle is a 24/7 all-day breakfast concept featuring ridiculously affordable Filipino and Western fare. They offer pancakes, eggs Benedict, Spam, pork belly and the usual silog.

The owners wanted to revolutionize the kanto/karinderia image, by uplifting the same kind of breakfast items you’ll find in eateries all over the Philippines.

But why add the word “Freestyle” to “Kanto”? Because, here, you can mix and match your morning meal favorites. Make your own breakfast with different tapas, bacon strips, tocino and even have your eggs prepared just the way you like them—sunny side, scrambled, boiled or poached!

Kanto now has seven branches, and here’s why we love it…

#Restaurants, Bonifacio Global City

Going Savage! (Created by Chef Josh Boutwood)

By doing away with the pretentiousness one would typically expect from Fort Bonifacio’s higher-end restaurants, Savage is a breath of fresh air that is as familiar as it is—in its own way—innovative.

No gas or electric stoves, no foams, no spherification. Here you’ll find a rustic menu with hearty servings made the good old-fashioned way.

Wood, fire and a grill.

A testament to humankind’s ongoing attempts at making Mother Nature taste delicious. Savage takes humanity’s most basic culinary premise and delivers great tasting food that not only looks amazing, but tastes amazing as well.

P1077217.jpg
Off the beaten path, Savage is quietly tucked away in The Plaza at Arya Residences.

The plaza is home to a handful of high-end dining establishments and foot traffic is light to moderate during the weekdays. (With evenings and weekends being the busiest times.)

It’s a nice cozy location compared to the busier parts of BGC and we recommend visiting the place if you want a more laid-back dining experience.

Agimat Foraging Bar and Kitchen (A Review)

Agimat is the flagship foraging bar concept of Liquido Maestro by Kalel Demetrio x  Modern Filipino Tapas by Chef Niño Laus in the heart of Brgy Poblacion.

The name and concept are inspired by Filipino folklore: the mysterious amulet known for warding off evil or the mythical charm noted for developing instant attraction to the bearer.

Agimat promises a magical experience for those looking for mystical ambiance, otherworldly cocktails and spellbinding food that celebrate everything indigenously Filipino.

Here’s what we think of Agimat Foraging Bar & Kitchen…
