NIKKEI NAMA BAR BGC: Japanese-Peruvian with an Awesome View at One Bonifacio

Nikkei Nama Bar-43.jpg

A big benefit of the Japanese diaspora is the merging of their culture, particularly their cuisine with the countries they emigrated too. Nikkei refers to the fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine. First popularized by Nobu Matsuhisa, the cuisine has since trickled down to smaller restaurants and found its way to Manila.

Nikkei has been in the Philippines for over 3 years now, and they recently opened their sister restaurant Nikkei Nama in One Bonifacio in BGC. Nama translates to “fresh” or “light” which reflects in the food served at Nikkei Nama by Head Chef Juan Barcos.

It caters to the younger, well-traveled appetite and value-conscious BGC dining crowd. It also exclusively features the Chifa (Chinese-Peruvian) rice bowls.

Here’s what we liked at Nikkei Nama…

It was 2008 when we first discovered Yoki’s Farm and its Treasures during our Ultimate Tagaytay tours. It was only Aidan who we were able to bring with us.

Here’s why you should visit Yoki’s Farm on your next trip to Tagaytay’s Mendez area.

Dr. Wine Sunday Brunch: Best French Seafood Brunch in Manila! (2019)

Dr Wine Sunday Brunch-1.jpg

One of our most memorable brunch experiences in Paris was eating out in a neighborhood French seafood bistro in Le Marais with our friend Jen and her partner. I have always cherished that memory because of the “honest” conversations over Chablis and French oysters and really good seafood simply cooked with butter.

Did you know that, here in Manila, Dr. Wine serves the best French seafood experience? They usually open at night except on Sundays when they open at 12 noon, and that’s when you can have a lazy seafood brunch with the family.

Here’s what to expect and how to organize your own awesome French seafood brunch experience at Dr. Wine.

DESAYUNO by Barcino: A Spanish Late Breakfast in Manila!

Barcino Desayuno.jpg

DESAYUNO is Barcino’s tribute to the Spanish breakfast tradition in Manila featuring classic Spanish breakfast favorites and introducing Spanish-inspired Filipino breakfast creations. It’s a popular breakfast in the Barcino Santolan branch, recently introduced in Barcino Uptown Parade—a great place to have a morning meeting in the BGC/Uptown Bonifacio Area where you can enjoy cava for breakfast. 🙂

Eating late breakfasts, which is quite the norm in Spain, is becoming popular in Manila as well because of the intermittent fasting trend.

We had a brunch-out with the boys, and here are some tips on how to organize your own awesome Desayuno experience…

Motto Motto: Serendra’s Friendly Neighborhood Japanese Resto

Update 12/21/2018: As featured in 10 Best New Restaurants in Manila (2019 Homegrown Edition)!

Motto Motto-72.jpg

Motto Motto, meaning “more more” in Japanese, is a Japanese comfort food restaurant with an extensive menu to cater to both locals and Japanese ex-pats alike.

It’s another winning concept by the Raintree group after Friends & Family to replace the Chelsea concept in Serendra. They also partnered with a homegrown Tokyo bakery concept from Salcedo to provide Japanese pastries.

I like how it still gets that younger Chelsea ambiance conducive to conversation while offering more affordable or unique Japanese food options.

Ground Floor, Serendra Piazza, Bonifacio Global City.
Opening Hours: 8.00 am to 11.00 pm

Update 12/21/2018: As featured in 10 Best New Restaurants in Manila (2019 Homegrown Edition)!

Friends and Family BGC-37.jpg

Friends & Family is a tasty tribute to Filipino comfort food classics that we grew up with and a throwback to our Filipino Eateries by the Raintree group.

It’s very Filipino, comforting to our palate with a focus on Filipino BBQ & Pugon cooking.

This is the latest addition to our favorite Filipino Restaurants in Manila which include Abe, Kanin Club, Cafe Juanita, Aristocrat, Locavore, Sarsa and Manam.

I bet a lot of our balikbayans miss this kind of food. If you love Filipino food like we do, you’ll love this. Here are some tips on what to order…
