MATSUMOTO CASTLE: Guide & Tips for Tourists!

Nagano

It’s Japan’s oldest castle!

Matsumoto Castle is one of the five castles designated as National Treasures of Japan. It’s over 400 years old, making it the oldest castle donjon remaining in the country.  Unlike many palaces in Japan, its original structure was, fortunately, not bombed during WWII. That’s why it was able to keep most of its original wooden donjons and walls intact.

It is nicknamed as the “crow castle” for its contrasting color of black and white. It’s currently my favorite castle in Japan because I find it exceedingly rare to find a Japanese castle so well preserved in its original state.

It’s my second time visiting the famed attraction and here are some tips that I wished I knew on my first visit…

Matsumoto Castle Entrance:
4-1 Marunochi, Matsumoto-shi, Nagano
Saturday (8:30 AM ~ 5:0 PM)
Sunday (8:30 AM ~ 5:0 PM)
Weekdays (8:30 AM ~ 5:0 PM)
Entrance: Adult: 610 YEN
Children: 300 YEN
6 years old or under: Free
Phone: (0263) 32-2902

Passport Application Appointment (2019 DFA Philippines Renewal Requirements)

We’ve all been there – the time to renew passports. Over the past year or so, passport renewal in the Philippines has gotten a bad rep particularly for the lack of slots and the prolonged waiting times.

I recently had to have my passport renewed as I was already past the 6-month mark. In most situations, you wouldn’t be let out of the country if you have less than six (6) months remaining on your passport. In cases that they do let you leave, they give you a warning that you might not be able to enter the country you’re planning to visit, under the same 6-month restriction.

I’ll be upfront in saying that I did dread the renewal, as the news of the data breach came out literally a week before my scheduled appointment. But I had to do it since I do want to keep on traveling, and I can’t do that without a proper passport.

So, let me walk you through how to renew your passport:

Note: This article only covers Passport Renewal. For New Applications, visit the DFA’s Official Passport Appointment website.Read more

Victory Liner’s P2P Clark to Subic, Olongapo, Dagupan Guide (Schedule)

I’m a child of the South, so accessing NAIA has never been a problem for me. But I do have a lot of friends who live in Northern Manila, who are no strangers to the inconvenience of traveling to NAIA to catch their flight.

Fortunately, more and more airlines are flying to and from Clark – both for local and international destinations. You may think that Clark is still quite a long way from Manila, but this isn’t the case at all. You can reach Clark from Trinoma in just under two hours, and without the stress of Manila traffic.

So, why fly via Clark?

Q&A Kitchen Makati Valentine’s: Is it Now Worth Going to? (A Review)

Q&A Kitchen and Bar-46.jpg

We celebrated Valentine’s with our creative entrepreneur friends in the new restaurant of Chef Alain Raye of La Regalade Manila fame. There were mixed reviews when it opened towards the end of last year so we dined with optimistic caution.

Q&A stands for Question & Answers for the culinarily curious or Quality & Attention for the ones looking for Michelin-star taste and service in Manila. The 1 Michelin-starred Chef Alain Raye fell in love with a Filipina during his La Regalade days, and now he is permanently based here with the love of his life.

Is it now worth going to Q&A Kitchen in Makati? Here’s what we think…

NINYO Fusion Cuisine & Wine Lounge: Quezon City’s Most Romantic Restaurant!

Ninyo

Ninyo has long been part of my list for the most romantic restaurants in the city. What started as Manila’s Best Kept Secret, the humble ancestral house of Chef Nins Laus, is transformed into this quiet and intimate hidden paradise with its garden-like charm. From the moment you step in, you’re already greeted by the candle lights, beautiful pavilions, hanging vines, koi ponds, and antique accents in the interior.  —which unfailingly keeps taking the breaths of many lovers.

ninyo2

Aside from the gorgeous ambiance, it’s also a foodie destination for good food, with Chef Nins’ creative take of European-Asian fusion dishes. Note that Ninyo always updates its menu so its degustation is always a good idea. A set menu is a great option, easier than choosing from a wide array of food.
