Holy Land Pilgrimage: Following the Footsteps of Jesus (Photo Essay)

About 85% of Filipinos are Christians and the Philippines is considered to be the 6th largest Christian country in the world.

Which is why it only makes sense that a lot of Filipinos dreams of visiting the land of the Bible.

To some, traveling to the holy land is considered to be the final step to fulfill their Christianity. But for most, traveling to the holy land means giving their life a far greater meaning.

At least that was true back in the day. Sadly, nowadays only a few remaining devoted Christians would want to visit the land of the bible.

As our generation gets younger and other travel destinations become cheaper, fewer tourists and pilgrims no longer consider the Holy land their “bucket list” destination.

Lucky for me as a young “Millennial,” I was blessed to be offered to join a group of pilgrims bound for the holy land. Join me, as we embark on a journey to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

God is waiting for us at the Kerygma Conference…

Free to Pursue Passion - Anton Diaz.012

I attended the very first Kerygma Conference in 2007 when I was at a crossroad in my career.

I was praying to God to find my passion and purpose in life. I was torn between continuing a career with a company that I love in P&G Philippines or to pursue my blog Our Awesome Planet full time.

During one of the Gospel sessions, Bro. Bo Sanchez prayed for the Holy Spirit to touch the lives of the attendees. I clearly remember when I closed my eyes I saw a vision of thousands of people hugging me and thanking me for my blog.

My son Aidan who attended with me hugged me, and I cried the entire time.

In 2008, I quit my high paying job in the best multinational company in Manila to pursue blogging. That vision gave me the determination and inspiration to pursue Our Awesome Planet full time.

Looking back after 10 years, I'm happy I attended the conference and made that life-changing decision.

I invite you to have that transformative experience at this year's Kerygma Conference. Here's what to expect…

10 Holiness Imperatives for Young Filipino Families (A Pope Francis Visit Reflection) @Pontifex

(Text by Anton Diaz, Photos by Rich Estuesta of DV Tech

Apostolic Nunciature to MOA Jan 16 5PM Roxas Route (near Buendia Flyover) (10)

Christ’s message was clear and profound during Pope Francis’ visit. This long Papal Visit weekend was like a retreat, to reflect on the important things in life, especially in the family. The timing was perfect, and I felt like he was speaking to us parents on how to raise our children in holiness and help them live a meaningful life.

I would like to share with you my reflection on the 10 Holiness Imperatives for Young Filipino Families

A Miracle in Mindoro – A Message from Mary

(Written by Willy E. Arcilla)

Blessed Virgin Mary

February 11 is a date which the Roman Catholic Church commemorates as the World Day of the Sick in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes to whom is attributed countless miraculous cures that have occurred in Lourdes, located in the foothills of the Pyrenees, southwestern France, a world-renowned pilgrimage site of the Marian apparitions to the 14-year old St. Bernadette Soubirous in 1858.  Her message then, as in all past apparitions across the world remains consistent and universal, timeless and enduring  –      a call for the conversion of sinners; prayer and sacrifice of the faithful; and charity for the poor and sick.

On the same date this year, February 11, 2013, 155 years after the first apparition in Lourdes, the Blessed Virgin Mary appears to have made her presence felt once more and her message revived, but not in Europe, rather, right here on Philippine soil – on Iling, an impoverished island off the southwestern coast of Mindoro, an hour by pumpboat from San Jose, the capital of Occidental Mindoro.

February 11, 2013 marked the inauguration of Santisima Trinidad, a new church built on the island for the Missionaries of Mary, Mother of the Poor (MMMP), with the help of private donors led by the DMCI group of companies. The MMMP was founded in 2011 by Fr. Fernando Suarez, the world-renowned and much beloved healing priest, who was incardinated in Mindoro under Bishop Antonio F. Palang, SVD.

Sacred Relic of the True Cross

Did you know that Monasterio de Tarlac is the only place in Asia where you can find the sacred relic of the True Cross of Jesus Christ?

In 2005, Fr. Archie Cortez, founder of the Monastic Community of the Servants of the Risen Chist in Tarlac, was invited to attend the World Youth Day celebration in Cologne, Germany.  He met Msgr. Volker Bauer of Essen, Germany, who was the custodian of the relic. Coincidentally, Msgr. Volker was looking for someone who could take care of the relic since the monastic life in Europe is slowly dying.

After learning that Fr. Archie leads a monastic community in the Philippines, Msgr. Volker entrusted the fragment of the Holy Cross of Christ to him.

Heaven is for Real and the Prince of Peace!

I believe that there is Heaven because of our Catholic faith.

But after reading these two books on the stories of two young persons’ personal encounters with Heaven, it became really real for me. I accepted it as a fact rather than just depending on blind faith about its existence.

The story of  3-year-old Colton Burpo’s encounters with Jesus in Heaven was both reassuring and chilling, powerfully told through the innocence of a child. It answered the questions on:

  • What happens with our loved ones when they die?
  • Do the unborn really have a soul? (a timely question in light of the RH Bill)
  • Is Heaven just a concept or is it physically real? What does it feel like?
  • What does it mean to get a Power Shot from Heaven?
  • What does Jesus look like?

It was very comforting to learn the answers, and it further strengthens our Faith in Him.

My Days with the Lord…

Admittedly, I entertained the thought of backing out the last minute last Friday to watch the opening night of The Wedding Singer instead of attending Yuppie Days with the Lord. I thought it would be a corny retreat designed for High School students and it would be “an Atenean thing”.

Good thing, He prevailed 🙂

Sister Raquel Reodica, Cancer Healer of the Lord

One of my pro bono projects is to do a total site makeover of Sister Raquel’s website from a Web 1.0 site (Mother Ignacia Healing Ministry) to a Web 2.0 Site (Sister Raquel Blog).

Sister Raquel is one of the Mother Ignacia nuns who is known as a Cancer Healer of the Lord. You can subscribe to the blog to get inspirational photos and poems by Eastwind and Sister Raquel. You can also pray for people from all around the world who requested for prayers for their sickness. You can also send your own prayer requests to the prayer warriors.

We visited Sister Raquel and had a healing pray over session for my mom.

My partner for the blog site, Bernie Lopez was busy filming testimonials on how Jesus was able to heal the sick through Sister Raquel.

Check out if you want to know more about the Mother Ignacia Healing Ministry of Sister Raquel, RVM.
