Dani Girl is an enlightening tale of 9-year old Dani Lyons’ battle against cancer. At some point in our lives, we get a first-hand experience of cancer and how it affects our families.
The musical is about the child-like hope needed to battle against the dreaded Big C. I’ve always admired the work of non-profit organizations like Kythe here in Manila and how they are able to help kids with cancer.
Thanks to 9 Works Theatrical and Sandbox Collective for presenting Dani Girl, a relevant musical to raise awareness and empathy about Life with Cancer, again.

Ang Huling El Bimbo is a masterful piece of expert storytelling through the music of the Eraserheads, the most iconic rock band of the 90s. Their songs are expertly put together to build the story of friends who have lost their relationships, and their unexpected reunion years later.
Ang Huling El Bimbo is the latest original Filipino musical produced by Full House Theater Company (FHTC) and Resorts World Manila.
Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady (KPANLL) is a proudly Original Filipino Musical about the aspirations and tribulations of the common Filipino, set amidst a battle between superheroes and supervillains. The show is very endearing throughout, flawlessly integrating Pinoy humor, poking fun at our quirky habits and (mis)pronunciation of words, and a hopeless love story.
I was in awe after the latest media preview at Onstage Greenbelt 1. It was my first time to watch the show, and we couldn’t stop laughing and enjoyed it immensely.
I’m proud to be a witness of this coming of age of Philippine Theater and to watch history as it unfolds. Don’t miss out on the show that everyone is raving about! Check out KPANLL – The Musical…

RAK OF AEGIS is a Pinoy Original Musical based on the music of Pinoy Rock Band, Aegis. The music is weaved into a story of resilience amidst calamities and the dream of making it big someday.
It’s a musical a la Mamma Mia, with a cheesy love story and the songs of Aegis as the soundtrack.
I love its visually stimulating production and the romantic comedy storyline. The first half of the musical was solid. It established the story of the different characters and their flooding dilemma with vibrant Aegis music.
The second half though was dramatic and a bit dragging. I think it could have ended better with a different conclusion.
But overall, this is one heart-warming musical with iconic Aegis songs that can be turned into a modern movie about the Pinoy’s resilience and love for music against all odds.
This is a must-see for all theater lovers. You can be proud of how our original Pinoy theater productions are evolving in Manila. 🙂
You can still catch the last two weekend shows of Rak of Aegis, which closes on March 9!
Here’s a photo essay when we watched the show with the boys…
WICKED The Musical finally opened last night at the CCP Main Theatre to kickoff Wicked Mania in Manila! It’s the world-class Broadway musical that Filipinos have been raving about and campaigning to bring to the Philippines.
“Wicked” is the untold story of Glinda, the Good Witch of the South and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. It’s like a prequel to the story of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. It also shows the origins of the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion.
I love the show’s “Green For Good” motto and why we shouldn’t believe in hearsay and judge other people based purely on rumors.
First, a disclosure: this is the first ballet show I’ve watched.
We were in grade school when the first Rama Sita was staged by Ballet Philippines in 1980 with Basil Valdez as Rama, Kuh Ledesma as Sita, and Leo Valdez as the evil demon Ravana.
I’ve watched the adaptations of the Hindu epic Ramayana twice in Indonesia: first in the Pramayana Ramayana Ballet in Yogyakarta, and the Kecak Dance version in Uluwatu in Bali. I wonder how different Rama Hari would be.
I thought that Rama Hari is another one of those hyped up star-studded musicals but I was wrong.
We were literally blown away by the beautiful ballet dance choreography and the powerful tagalog musical score.
I still can’t believe that PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, touted to be “the most successful musical of all time“, is being staged in Manila. I was addicted to its complete soundtrack during my college days, and I never imagined I would get to hear and watch it live with the traveling Phantom of the Opera cast. 🙂
It’s almost impossible not to be drawn into the love triangle story of Christine, Raoul and the Phantom because of familiar songs like:
“Think of Me” by Christine and Raoul,
“The Mirror (Angel of Music)” by Christine, Raoul, and Phantom
“The Phantom of the Opera” by Phantom and Christine
“The Music of the Night” by Phantom, and
“All I Ask of You” by Raoul and Christine
I loved the smooth transitions from one grand scene to the next, especially when Christine was seduced by the Phantom to visit his secret hideout under the opera house, passing through an underground lake. It was mesmerizing to see the smoke, lights and candles slowly emerging to create the Phantom’s hiding place.

SALTIMBANCO is the longest running Cirque du Soleil touring show, which started way back in 1992. It comes from the Italian word “Saltare in Banco” which means “to jump on a bench”. It is inspired by life in an urban city and the interesting people living in it.
Like other Cirque du Soleil shows, it displays artistic circus acts with colorful costumes weaved into a socially relevant story (with funny clown acts as intermission). It features original live music described as “ethereal yet baroque, rhythmic and cosmopolitan” and an invented language inspired by Arabic, Swedish and German.
The sun is out, and Saltimbanco brings timely, colorful fun to Manila. 🙂 Finally, after 20 years, Filipinos can watch Saltimbanco on Philippine soil!
Here are some tips to enjoy the show and some background information on the characters:
There’s a world-class show in town, and you shouldn’t miss its limited run here in Manila!
DRUM TAO is a different kind of musical drum concert where the performers are trained in martial arts and prefer to practice outdoors in the forest to prepare for this awesome sensory experience.
It’s like watching synchronized drumming–very animated and snappy with a bit of ouido (playing musical instruments by ear, in synchronization with the beat of the group).
The entire show is composed of musical drum stunt performances with passionate drum beating, chanting and shouting (there are no lyrics, just instrumental Japanese music). In between sets, there are comical skits showcasing Japanese humor.
