Beautiful! The Carole King Musical Manila (Review)

YES! I still can’t believe that Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is now playing in Manila!

It’s on top of my Broadway musical bucket list ever since I missed watching it in Broadway and West End. Watching it in Manila was extra special because it was more relatable with the Manila cast, and we witnessed Kyla Rivera, whom we watched In the Heights (2011), bloom into Carole King’s lead role (2019).

Best to watch it raw, without reading any reviews and in the company of your musical-lovin’ friends. Grab the last remaining shows of the first Meralco Theatre run that’s only until July 7, 2019.

Having said that, here’s why it is sooo beautiful to watch…

House 1925: Barbershop and Speakeasy for the Boys

The best gift a father can get is a family barbershop session and a day with the boys.

We are happy House 1925 opened in the south to provide the best barbershop experience with a speakeasy lounge where you can hang while you wait.

Here are some tips to organize your own grooming and booze experience with the boys…

Barbershop

Located in the new lifestyle wing of Molito, its name and interiors are inspired by the 1920s.

HOUSE 1925

Barbershop Packages Menu

I like that they focus on providing a quality barbershop experience, with packages starting with the Old Sport (₱450) to the ultra-pampering The West Egg (₱2,255).

Shave, Hand and Foot Care, Massage, Hair Care and Color

They have all the proper grooming equipment and add-on services you would look for in a quality barbershop.

Some of the grooming products are made from organic ingredients or the best grooming products for men in the market.

Best of all, they are kid-friendly and welcoming to the entire family.

The Weight of Words: A Millennial Mental Health Monologue

I didn’t know what to expect when we watched this show. After the monologue, your mind was stimulated, but still it needed time to process the depth of storytelling and theatre artistry of Abner and the Black Canvas team.

This is the kind of show that we need to talk about now before another friend passes away.

It took me a few days to reflect on what it meant. It was approachable but profound, the kind that would touch your heart and change your perspective on the weight of every word we speak (and not speak).

I highly recommend that you do not miss the Pineapple Lab run, and I also hope that they have more and more theatre run extensions. (If you are watching the show, best to read this reflection after watching it.)

Here’s why you should watch #BlackCanvasWOW…

Weight of Words (WoW)
PARC Foundation Blackbox on May 31 (8PM), June 1-2 (4PM & 8PM), and
Pineapple Lab on June 15 (5PM & 8PM) and 16 (4PM & 8PM).

“Angels in America” Manila (Review) @ATEGasia

I must be honest. There would be two types of theater goers after watching the award-winning Angels in America by American playwright Tony Kushner: the one who would rave about the theatrical perfection of this groundbreaking masterpiece, and the one who got bored to death.

For some, they need to know what it is all about before committing to watching with friends. For me, when I watch plays, I usually go clueless about what it is all about, so as to have no biases. I let the story unfold, appreciate the narrative and finish the show with an internal reflection of what it means to me.

I’ll let you know what I think at the end of this post.

ANGELS IN AMERICA
Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati
March 22 to April 7, 2019
For tickets, visit www.ticketworld.com.ph

Zone 1 – ₱3,500
Zone 2 – ₱2,500
Zone 3 – ₱1,500

ANGELS IN AMERICA contains strong language and mature content. Due to its subject matter, this show is strongly recommended to ages 17 years old and above.

List of Volunteer Organizations (đź’ŻLegit) in the Philippines! #GOVolunteer

Performing Arts and Recreation Center (PARC) Volunteers

Volunteering is both a selfless give-and-take act because you work for free to contribute to the community but in return, you discover yourself while your love tank is filled by the people you helped.

But these days, you have to be careful about which volunteer groups to join because some exploits the community they work with by making them dependent on volunteers instead of making the community better.

iVolunteer Philippines is the leading organization that connects volunteers to the rightful NGOs and communities for the last 10 years. Every year, they hold a GO! Volunteer Expo to showcase and meet the different volunteer groups. This is a great opportunity also for volunteers to look for where they can offer their skills to the group that would benefit the most.

This year, the GO! Volunteer Expo will happen at Glorietta Activity Center on April 6 & 7, 2019.

This time, iVolunteer Philippines is making it an even bigger event that will celebrate everyday Filipino heroes and the timeless act of giving back. iVolunteer believes that when given the opportunity, Filipinos are always willing to answer the call for help.

Here’s the complete list of Volunteer Communities that you can join:

The New Wild Flour Restaurant

WFpost11

Having opened their doors in 2012, Wild Flour Restaurant has gone on to become one of the most successful and recognizable (local) restaurant brands in Metro Manila.

Consistency, great food, and great talent are some of the key factors to Wild Flour’s success, and while a number of restaurants struggle in Manila’s highly competitive restaurant market, Wild Flour has been steadily growing with no signs of slowing down making their story a true, modern-day Filipino success story.

WFpost4

Starting out as a small French/American cafe and bakery that specialized in all day breakfast and lunch, Wild Flour has gradually evolved its menu to incorporate local and international items to keep up with customer demand. This has led the team to expand beyond the brunch style model by adding dinner to their menu which is now available at all branches.

26th St., Taguig, BGC Metro Manila
