The Philippines is arguably one of the best travel destinations in all of SE Asia, home to 36,289 km of beautiful coastline which includes some of the worlds most renowned reefs, beaches, and biodiversity. In fact, just this year, Siargao, Boracay, and Palawan islands have been ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (respectfully), as the “Top 5 Islands” in all of Aisa. It’s not surprising then, that these prime locations are alluring to travelers from around the globe, people who want to sample the natural beauty of the Philippines.
2018 has been a great year for tourism in the Philippines and 2019 is projected to do even better. So if you are planning a trip to the Philippines for 2019 here are our picks for the best Hotel Resorts to visit in the new year.
San Vicente is an almost untouched part of Palawan that is home to one of the longest beaches in all of Asia. A rather large municipality, San Vicente itself is divided into a handful of barangays, sleepy towns and villages.
Underdevelopment has seemingly preserved this part of Palawan with tourism in San Vicente being traditionally low compared to the rest of the island. But that will all be changing soon as the people of San Vicente prepare to open up their quaint and secluded part of Palawan to the rest of the world.
As tourism in the Philippines is expected to recover after a slight decline in 2017, the Department of Tourism (DOT) has implemented a series of aggressive and daring marketing schemes that appear to start revitalizing tourism in and to the country. With the Duterte administration’s controversial closing and reopening of one of the Philippines’ top tourist attractions, Boracay, the impacts from such an undertaking have yet to be quantified. But one can hope that the government can actually maintain its new regulations for tourism hotspots.
That’s why all eyes should be on San Vicente as it will be the testbed and ground zero for the DOT’s (newest branch) Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and its bold new tourism initiatives. San Vicente is actually a chance for the Government of the Philippines to get tourism right.
New airports and air travel routes are popping up all over the country with hopes of easing congestion in busier airports and bringing in tourist traffic to newer locations.
With the opening of the new San Vicente Airport, the local government hopes to tap into the expected influx of tourists by developing local attractions and essentially building a new tourist destination from scratch.
It’s a daring plan that will take years of dedication from both the private and government sectors. So far, everything seems to be on track, and the locals seem more than eager to start this new beginning for San Vicente.
Having opened their doors in 2012, Wild Flour Restaurant has gone on to become one of the most successful and recognizable (local) restaurant brands in Metro Manila.
Consistency, great food, and great talent are some of the key factors to Wild Flour’s success, and while a number of restaurants struggle in Manila’s highly competitive restaurant market, Wild Flour has been steadily growing with no signs of slowing down making their story a true, modern-day Filipino success story.
Starting out as a small French/American cafe and bakery that specialized in all day breakfast and lunch, Wild Flour has gradually evolved its menu to incorporate local and international items to keep up with customer demand. This has led the team to expand beyond the brunch style model by adding dinner to their menu which is now available at all branches.
Wild Flour Restaurant Ground floor, Net Lima building,

Siama Hotel is one of the most visually stunning and beautifully designed hotels that we’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Inspired by the charming countryside of Sorsogon PHL, Siama seamlessly blends natural and modern architecture into a space that is calm and relaxed yet, at the same time, bold and welcoming.
Sustainability and nature, which are reflected throughout the entire hotel, were the main inspirations that went into the design.
Locally sourced materials were used in its construction, and great care was taken to ensure that the hotel has as small an impact on the surrounding environment as possible.
But looks alone isn’t what makes Siama one of our favorite hotels. The service and food are top-notch, and Siama is a great starting point if you plan to visit the many tourist attractions in Sorsogon.
Quietly tucked away on the outskirts of Sorsogon City in the Province of Bicol, Philippines, Siama is a destination perfect for those who appreciate nature, great food and great company.
Not many places in the Philippines have captured the hearts and minds of travelers quite like Siargao has. It’s an Island paradise—the mere mention of its name instantly brings up thoughts of white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, coconuts trees and perfect waves.
The island attracts people from all over the world from all walks of life. This is due in part to the world-class surf and the rich biodiversity of the surrounding waters which have drawn in surfers and sports fishers alike.
There is so much to do and see here despite its being a small island in the Pacific, and we suggest putting Siargao in your bucket list and knocking it off as soon as possible.
Siargao Island Surigao del Norte,
With the rainy season lingering on, and on, and on — for what feels like an eternity now — we were in dire need of a little “beer time”. I mean let’s face it, one rain-soaked workweek after another can take its toll on even the most die-hard Pluviophile.
We were excited to hear about San Miguel Super Dry Promo that was rolling out around the metro this month! Buy any 2 Bottles of San Miguel Super Dry and receive a movie gift card worth 100 pesos redeemable at any Ayala Malls cinemas across the metro.
We decided to take advantage of this awesome promo and visit 3 Bars in the metro where we could pair some bar chow with San Miguel Super Dry. Read more
Siargao Bleu, by far, is one of the better resorts we had the pleasure of staying in. The unique design and architecture perfectly encapsulate, the laid-back provincial feel of the entire island. And while it’s the only Triple-A resort in Siargao, the establishment doesn’t come off as too bourgie or high-class.
Perfect for a romantic getaway or with a small group of family or friends, Siargao Bleu is for people who love the island life and, at the same time, know how to relax in style.
Located at the heart of Siargao and minutes away from Cloud 9 Surfing, the resort draws guests from all around the world.
Surfing season is the busiest time in Siargao and the resort is typically booked. The popularity of Siargao Bleu makes it one of the most frequented resorts on the island so booking ahead of time is recommended.
The first jellyfish bar to open in Manila, Antidote is one of the few bars in the Metro where you can and actually hear the person sitting across from you.
The lounge type bar features an 8m jellyfish tank which adds to the chill laid-back vibe that draws guests looking for a more intimate and relaxed experience in Makati.
Good food, good drinks and good music make Antidote the perfect alternative to the more hectic spots found around the Poblacion area.
Located on the roof-deck of the5-starI’M Hotel in the heart of Makati, Antidote is regularly frequented by both foreign and local guests. Weekends are the busiest days, so those who enjoy mixed crowds of young to middle-aged professionals will have a good time here.
Is it a speakeasy, is it a lounge, is it a restaurant? To be honest, I’m not quite sure how to define The Red Piano, and the concept behind TRP is something that’s hard to describe. It’s like a hodgepodge of ideas that came together to make something that is totally unique and, at the same time, a little familiar.
This also reflects in the establishment’s menu where you’ll find a myriad of dishes from all over the globe like Southern US, Spain and Italy. It’s a surprisingly eclectic approach to a restaurant that pretty much delivers.
The Red Piano can be found on the bottom floor of Arya Plaza in BGC, Metro Manila. It’s off the beaten path, away from the busier parts of BGC, which is perfect if you are looking for a more laid-back casual dining experience.
The interior, with a modest dining area and bar on the first floor, looks small at first glance. The main dining area and lounge are located on the second level where guests can dine while enjoying live entertainment.
