10 Best Home-Based Desserts You Should Try Next!

Who needs a sugar boost? During this pandemic, many of us including myself have a guilty pleasure of turning to sweets for comfort in stressful times.

Here’s a list of the best home-based dessert we tried and tested last month from chocolates, brownies, doughnuts, ice cream to cakes that’s sure to sweeten a little bit of our time in quarantine.

Chumoto Nama Chocolates

Love this locally-made melt-in-your-mouth Nama Chocolate proudly made from Philippine cacao by Caryl of @chumoto.ph.

Tried the dark chocolate version made from 62% dark and 41% milk. The milk chocolate nama version is popular with kids.
It melts so fast so best to consume immediately. This may be similar to Royce’ but better because it is proudly Philippine made ingredients and chocolate maker.

Chumoto – Jimoto means local in Japanese (giving credit to the roots of Nama) and incorporated the chocolate maker’s surname (Chu) to make it personal. After 100+ recipe combination, Chumoto was born last Sept 2019.

Bite Manila’s Japanese Double Cheesecake

Japanese Double Cheesecake is a winner! Inspired from discovering Hokkaido cheesecake, Chef Polo researched, tweaked and had cake testings until she found the perfect light and fluffy melt-in-your-mouth recipe! She added a bit of salty twist to break the creaminess, their family secret version.

@bite.mnl chocolate chip cookie and walnut chocolate chip cookie are also irresistably good!

Chef Polo is not new in the food industry as she has culinary and arts background from CACS and she even won the #utt2013 for her Butter Nuggets, a Chicken and Bacon Ravioli entry.

Carrot Cake by Soop Kitchen

This carrot cake is one of the best in the south by 13-year old Andres during the lockdown. We love it because it is moist, with bits of carrots and the cake itself is not too sweet.

I love how the home-based food movement is offering uniquely delicious food, fresh and quality ingredients made from scratch, and priced competitively vs restos.

UBE BOMB by Home Cooking By Kristina

Ube palitaw made with real ube and cream cheese.

Playing around with ube, @homecookingbykristina was only supposed to make ube cheese pandesal but due to lockdown and lack of ingredients, ube palitaw was born. Just ONE bouncy bite and I wish I do not have to share rest of the palitaw balls with my sons.

 Bread Lounge Doughnuts

No matter what time of the day, my boys would have these kind of doughnuts! They would eat one after another doughnut which amazed us because it’s as if they do not get full! I miss those days too!

Each boys have their own fave but the ultimate winner was the Vanilla Bean Glazed!
AD loves the Dalgona, Milktea and Vanilla Bean Glazed.
JX loves the Vanilla Bean Glazed.
RA was very keen on Xocoreo, Berry Happy and Vanilla Bean Glazed.
YG keeps on raving that he made the right decision to choose on the Dreamy White, Milktea, Berry Happy and VBG.

Soft chewy as you bite into it. @breadloungeph does it hand-rolled and manually pressed after a 16-hour dough process with pre-ferment which Bert & PV (owners) shared, a crossbreed between asian and brioche dough.
Truly amazing what this quarantine has done to us – the couple is getting back on track after their 2014 hiatus to take care of their family. From sourdough bread sandwich making, pizza, beignets to this artisan doughnuts!

Assorted one of each variant ₱250.
