Funky Quarters: The Hippest Boutique Hotel in La Union!

Retro takes on a hip and funky twist in this one-of-a-kind boutique hotel in the incredibly idyllic surf town of La Union.

Very aptly named, this artsy boutique hotel in Elyu is quite possibly the coolest hotel in this otherwise laidback summer destination in the North.

A standout and a looker, the Funky Quarters is not your typical hotel. Unlike most generic hotels you can find in other beach destinations, Funky Quarters offers a bold and proud ambiance that sets it apart from the rest.

If you want the full experience of La Union and embrace its cool and hippie vibe, I highly suggest you check out Funky Quarters. It’s trendy, neat and homey—who would want to miss out on that?!

Plan your next trip to La Union and book a stay at Funky Quarters. Their details below:

FUNKY QUARTERS

Located right beside the popular Mad Monkeys and in the same corner as Tagpuan food spots, the Funky Quarters is a newly launched themed luxury boutique hotel at the heart of La Union.

Funky quarters is definitely more than just a place to spend the night. It’s a place you would want to stay in forever, or perhaps a place where you get interior design inspos for your own pad!

It is a unique boutique hotel experience that marries art, music, food and surf all in one building.

There is nothing discreet about this hotel. Upon checking in at the lobby, you’ll be immediately greeted by various steampunk-like installations and bright neon signs.

A pleasing design aesthetic is carried all throughout the hotel.

The entire floor itself is air-conditioned and is relatively compact, but is complete with all the amenities you’ll need like a common area where you can relax and socialize.

And for all you workaholics, there’s also a dedicated space for you (my favorite) to get your work done with a nice facade in the comforts of your own hotel. They call it the glasshouse, overlooking the busy streets below.

The space is lined with power outlets, lamps and surprisingly comfy seats, perfect if you ever want to sit in silence, study or perhaps gather your thoughts.

It is a uniquely designed space that I don’t think you can find elsewhere.

They provide quality soap and shampoo, too. Although the shared shower area is a tad smaller than your usual hotel/hostel shower rooms.

ROOMS

Bunk Rooms here are referred to as Quarters and there are 2 of them that can accommodate up to 10 guests in total.

Quarter 1 is a room for a group of 4. It has 4 comfy bunk bed configuration like the 2nd room. (P8,500/night)

Quarter 2, on the other hand, is a little bit bigger and can fit up to 6 guests.

Interestingly enough, the room or the building itself is built around a glass-enclosed tree that is just as high as Funky Quarters. (P12,500/night)

Both rooms are equipped with a hotel-grade mattress and duvet for that extra level of comfort.

Not to mention, the conveniently placed USB charging ports, work lamps and folding tables make it even harder to leave the place.

Sadly, the bath and showers are shared between the two rooms.

But they provide premium Aesop bath products so it’s still a win.

And surprisingly enough, the toilet seat is equipped with the coveted Japanese tech that surely makes up for the relatively small space.

If you want to have more privacy, you can also opt to book the “Hyde’s Room” for 2 pax at P5,500 per night.

It’s a furnished private room with its own bath/shower and extra special amenities. Ask around and one can tell you who Hyde really is, but maybe a night’s stay in his room can.

Towels are provided and all rooms are air-conditioned and passcode locked, so you’ll never have to worry about losing your keys if you go out surfing or drinking.

Also, the hotel is pet-friendly, so your fur babies are welcome to stay in your rooms and spend the night with you.

HYDE’S BAR & KITCHEN

At Funky Quarters there’s no way but up, literally.

Located on the 3rd floor of the building is Hyde’s Bar & Kitchen.

It’s an open space speakeasy bar that creates an alternative combination of music, drinks and people.

The upscale rooftop bar not only gives you the best views of the surf town but also offers you a wide range of specialty cocktails from Chef Kalel of Agimat.

Drinks start at P300 for classic cocktails up to specialty cocktails, and I highly recommend the craft beer by Monkey Eagle Brewery for both pre-game and day time drinking.

Come sunrise, guests can claim their complimentary breakfast and cocktail or drink at the rooftop bar/resto.

There’s a whole range of dishes, but guests can choose from different types of hearty crepes like spam & cheese, spinach & mushrooms and tuna for their complimentary daily hotel breakfast.

For all-day dining, Hyde’s still ups the game with a wide range of specially curated mains and bar chows by Chef J Benigno.

For starters, there’s the creamy baked salmon fillet finished off with a layer of herbed cream cheese. (P450)

An oven-roasted chicken Chimichurri served with dirty rice. (P300)

And my favorite, the only Bolzico rib-eye steak in all of La Union.

Overall, we enjoyed every bit of our trendy stay at Funky Quarters. Staying here for just a night doesn’t do the trick, so I’ll definitely be back. Next time I’m back, I’ll make sure to give at least a day to leisurely hang around at this hotel. It’s not a bad idea to spend an entire morning in their beautiful rooftop bar/resto and it would be great to make use of that productivity-inducing glasshouse too!

The attention to detail and retro-hippie vibe, I must say, are two of the things that got me hooked. And to top it off, the food and drinks were superb too! To the Funky Quarters, the first of its kind in La Union, till next time!
