20 Best Staycations in Manila of the Decade (2020)! Part 1

We have experienced almost all the best hotel staycations in Manila in the last decade with our four boys.

1. OKADA MANILA STAYCATION (Overall, the Best Staycation Experience in Manila!)

Dubbed as “Manila’s Grand Icon,” OKADA Manila in Entertainment City is a 44-hectare oceanfront Japanese Integrated Resort with a steel and glass facade.

It’s the flagship Okada Manila resort and the largest integrated resort in Manila, combining a 993-room Y-shaped hotel, 10 restaurants, 4522 square meters of ballroom and function rooms, Asia’s largest ultra-luxury indoor beach club and the world’s largest multicolor dancing water feature in one massive complex.

Verdict:

Okada Manila is one of our family’s best staycations ever because they have the best rooms, the best spa, the best restaurants, not to mention an amazing fountain.

We enjoyed relaxing in the room in between the food trips in their restaurants. The Casino areas are off-limits for the kids so make sure to have a conversation with them explaining why.

This is an awesome place to create lasting memories celebrating life’s milestones and special occasions in Manila.

2. GRAND HYATT MANILA STAYCATION (2nd Overall Best Staycation Experience in Manila!)

The Grand Hyatt Manila is a most luxurious staycation in the tallest hotel in Manila located in a prestigious address along BGC’s 8th Avenue.

We loved hanging out in the rooms and the Grand Club lounge; going on a food trip from Cantonese food at No.8 China House, to Spanish food at The Cellar, to Western, Filipino and Vegetarian favorites at the Grand Kitchen; and relaxing at the Illume Spa.

Verdict:

Overall, this is one of the best staycations we have had and we highly recommend Grand Hyatt Manila for your family staycations in 2020! Make sure to get the rooms with club access so that you can enjoy the Grand Club during breakfast and cocktail hour. When you go for your swim, don’t miss experiencing the wet floors open to hotel guests and get a massage after.

Make sure to reserve the private rooms of No. 8 China House and commemorate your birthday or other milestones with a special lauriat celebration. The Cellar is quite romantic at night with one of the best Spanish food in the metro. Don’t miss Sunday Brunch or Meatless Mondays at The Grand Kitchen. Kids are not allowed at The Peak so we were not able to dine there with the boys and, therefore, not included in this feature.

One thing though is that they don’t have specific kids’ playroom areas or interactive activities for the little ones during the Sunday cross-over brunch.

Our NOBU HOTEL Staycation is one of the most awesome stays we’ve had in Manila with the family.

It’s conveniently located, the rooms have elegant Japanese-inspired interiors, the famed Nobu Restaurant is found here, and there’s an awesome view of the City of Dreams Promenade.

A Nobu Hotel Staycation is definitely one of the most awesome staycations you can have in Manila.

What we like:
– Nobu Suites with the bathtub and high tech toilet
– Nobu Breakfast and Nobu Sunday Brunch
– Panoramic view of the City of Dreams Promenade with a front seat view of the Manila Bay sunset
– Attention to details from the toiletries, bathrobes, welcome platter and the bed
– Improved hospitality of the service team—more responsive and better attitude

What we don’t like:
– The bare lobby that leads to the casino; it’s hard to explain it to kids
– The chairs are too low when working on your laptop in the work table
– The spa options could be better

4. SOFITEL PHILIPPINE PLAZA MANILA STAYCATION (The Best in Manila Bay, Pasay City)

We love SOFITEL because it’s the only hotel in Manila with a luxurious resort-like feel and an awesome view of the Manila Sunset. It’s also considered a foodie haven where one can experience Spiral, the finest buffet in Manila and explore authentic French cuisine and wine. It also has Le Spa, which is one of the best couple spas in Manila today.

Verdict:

Make sure to arrange for a late checkout at 4 pm, because the Spiral Brunch finishes around 3 pm. There’s no extra charge for Club Millésime guests (depending on room availability).

I must say, this was one of our most memorable foodie staycations in Manila! 🙂

We’ve tried a lot of hotel staycations in Manila with the family and Shangri-La at the Fort is one of our favorites. They opened the Shangri-La Residences which is 97 serviced apartments (Levels 9-17) for long staying guests and for their Stay & Play Family Staycation Package.

Here’s why Shangri-La at the Fort continues to provide the best staycation experience in BGC ever since they opened:

Verdict:

Your staycation will never be boring specially for the kids at Adventure Zone, the 8th-floor swimming pool and sports facilities at Kerry Sports. The boys particularly love the teepee tent set up for a taste of indoor glamping.

They have one of the best breakfast buffets in BGC and a unique Peruvian restaurant with Samba.

We love to enjoy the room as much as possible when on a staycation and always do things together with the boys.

7. Sheraton Manila Hotel (The Best in Resorts World Manila)

Sheraton Manila is back and currently on soft opening, with the basic rooms and amenities opened. It’s a business hotel but with emphasis on Filipino Food and Family Fun while on business.

We celebrated Yugi’s 5th birthday at Sheraton Manila as requested by the little one. Here is a guide for those going on a celebration staycation experience at Sheraton:

Verdict:

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised that the Filipino Food, made by former-Marriot chefs, was quite good. I personally loved the view of the NAIA 3 Airport, which gave a sense of the excitement of travel during the stay. The boys couldn’t get enough of the big resort pool, the centerpiece of the property.

9. EDSA SHANGRI-LA MANILA STAYCATION (The Best in Mandaluyong City/Pasig Area)

EDSA Shangrila is one of our favorite hotels for family staycations because it has one of the best swimming pools with a mini water park and because of the Sunday Brunch innovations of HEAT.

Here’s how to plan your awesome staycation with your family at Edsa Shangri-La:

Verdict:

Edsa Shangri-La is centrally located so it’s perfect for a weekend getaway and a perfect place to stay when you do some errands around the metro. I would suggest that you go on a staycation from Saturday to Sunday and ask for a late checkout.

You can celebrate a special occasion with the family during the Sunday Side of HEAT during lunch. Treat the kids to swimming for fun. They can have day access to the pool even if they don’t stay overnight.

10. Bellevue Hotel Manila (The Best in Alabang, Muntinlupa)

The Bellevue Manila is the first luxury 5-star hotel in Alabang (circa 2003), providing the best Alabang staycation experience in the urban south! We recently experienced The Bellevue Manila staycation just before the decade ended, and here are some tips for your next family staycation in Alabang:

Verdict:

Overall, we enjoyed the spacious suite rooms; the view and the food at the Signature Club, the Chinese food at Phoenix Court, the Japanese food at Homare; and the night at Vue bar. The people are quite friendly and you get their signature Alabang hospitality.

Although you can eat breakfast at Cafe d’ Asie for variety, it’s still better to eat at the Signature Club. The basement parking is a bit confusing at first, but at least there are plenty of slots so you don’t have to worry.

Congratulations to The Bellevue Manila team for a job well done in consistently providing good food and service in Alabang since 2003! Galing!
