PIN WEI is the first specialty Chinese restaurant of the SEDA Hotels group with the flagship branch at SEDA Vertis North. Its promise of “good taste” is assured by the Chinese culinary team headed by Executive Chinese Chef Hann Furn Chen of Tin Hau fame.

We celebrated Ama’s birthday here with the family, and here are some a la carte and Sunday buffet tips…

First Things First

Located on the 2nd level of Seda Vertis North, Pin Wei is a 130-seater restaurant offering traditional Cantonese specialties.

Executive Chinese Chef Chen, with international hotel experience in Indonesia, Singapore and Dubai, is the former executive chef of Tin Hau.

It highlights natural lighting from floor-to-ceiling windows, bleached wooden panels and seats with woven rattan backrests.

Pin Wei Menu: Rice Roll, Steamed Dim Sum | Deep-fried Dim Sum, Congee | Roasted Chinese Meats | Appetizers, Soup | Abalone and Dried Seafood, Fresh Seafood | Lobster and Crab Delight | Seafood | Beef, and Pork | Poultry, Vegetarian | Vegetarian and Bean Curd | Noodles & Rice, Hand Pull Noodles | Desserts |

Drinks: House Wine | White Wine, Red Wine | Champagne, Sparkling Wine, Spirits | Whiskey, Single Malt | Cocktails, Beverages | Juices

They are known for their a la carte Cantonese specialties (and Sunday Brunch, until the promotion lasts).

Lauriat Set Menu: Set Menu A | Set Menu B | Set Menu C | Set Menu D | Set Menu E

Reserve the special lauriat rooms to celebrate your family’s special celebration!

Pin Wei Favorites

Beijing Duck with Chinese pancake and traditional condiments
Beijing Duck with Chinese pancake and traditional condiments (Half – ₱1,680, Whole – ₱3,180)

Any Chinese celebration is not complete without the special roasted duck! Enjoy the duck first before the other dishes.

The crisp skin was sliced with a layer of fat to put in the Chinese duck pancake.

As the boys are all growing up, they started fighting over every piece of this duck. So yummy!

2nd Way - Wor-fried Minced Duck Meat
2nd Way: Wok-fried Minced Duck Meat on a bed of lettuce (₱300)

2nd Way is usually fried minced duck meat with hoisin sauce on a cup of lettuce.

Deep-fried Prawns
Deep-fried Prawns (₱1,000/small, ₱1,650/medium, ₱2,200/large) with mayonnaise and golden corn flakes

Fried prawns with just the right amount of mayo and crisp corn flakes with microgreens to cut through the creaminess.

Wok-fried US Beef
Wok-fried US Beef (₱800/small, ₱1,200/medium, ₱1,600/large) diced with capsicum and black pepper sauce

The meat was tender and the sauce was thick, with the right peppery spice that you couldn’t resist eating it with fried rice.

The Pin Wei team was very friendly and attentive to make our experience hassle-free.

Sunday Brunch

The Sunday Brunch is the best because you get to taste most of Pin Wei’s specialty for only ₱988 net/head.

Start with the cold cuts and appetizers buffet…

… like with our favorite century egg, jellyfish and chili!

Steamed Lapu Fillet
Steamed Lapu Fillet (₱350/100g) steamed with scallions in superior soy sauce, Hong Kong Style; Braised Bailing Mushroom and Bean Curd (₱500/small, ₱750/medium, ₱1,000) with garden greens in brown sauce

Steamed lapu lapu was fresh with superior soy sauce. Enjoy the braised mushroom and tofu for something healthy.

Sichuan Hot and Sour Seafood Soup
Sichuan Hot and Sour Seafood Soup (₱250/person, ₱550/small), ₱825/medium, ₱1,100/large)

The hot and sour soup was as authentic as it gets, thick with the right sour spicy kick.

The la mian noodles were freshly made, hand-pulled by the Pin Wei team.

Zha Jiang Hand Pull Noodles
Zha Jiang Hand Pull Noodles (₱300/order) with Minced Pork Paste, Cucumber and Carrot

You’ll love the bouncy firm noodles with minced pork, like your Cantonese version of spaghetti with meat sauce.

Roasted Crispy Chicken, Poached Chicken
Roasted Crispy Chicken (₱475 half, ₱950 whole) with prawn crackers, Poached Chicken(₱475 half, ₱950 whole) with homemade soy sauce

Order the chicken two ways, one half roasted crispy and the other half poached in soy sauce.

Steamed Pork and Shrimp Siomai
Steamed Pork and Shrimp Siomai (₱210 – 4 pieces) with Caviar Tobiko

The dim sums were equally good, satisfying the boys’ craving for hakaw and siomai.

Deep-Fried Dimsum
Deep-Fried Vegetable Spring Rolls (₱230/4 pcs), Deep-Fried Seafood Roll with Bean Curd Sheet (₱230/3 pcs), Pan-Fried Radish Cake (₱200/3 pcs)

I don’t usually like them fried except when Pin Wei does it—not too oily, with a crisp skin and perfect with the sweet-sour sauce.

The siopao was equally good and a good starter for the meal.

Go for the fried mantau buns and ask for condensed milk and chili. 🙂 Yum!

Desserts

The boys enjoyed the buffet a lot that they went back for the desserts at the start of the buffet.

Refreshing Sweetened Mango Puree and Sago Creamed with Pomelo
Refreshing Sweetened Mango Puree and Sago Creamed (₱180) with Pomelo

Each kid might have had 10+ shot glasses of Mango Sago; it was so good.

Over-baked swan-shaped Taro Puff
Over-baked swan-shaped Taro Puff (₱200/ 3 pieces) with red bean paste

Loved the presentation. The taro puff was fried well with a thin crust, and you could taste its yummy flavor.

Chilled Almond Pudding with Lychee
Chilled Almond Pudding with Lychee (₱150)

Their chilled almond pudding was so good too, the best 2nd dessert after mango sago.

Deep-fried Mango Cheesecake
Deep-fried Mango Cheesecake (₱200) with vanilla ice cream

This is their signature dessert, often served to the birthday person.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Cantonese food by Chinese Chef Hann Furn Chen is one of the best in Manila!  They don’t compromise on the ingredients, and they cook these using the right Chinese techniques such that the traditional specialties do not disappoint in flavor.

Start with the steamed and fried dim sum, hot and sour soup and order the 2-way duck specialty, deep-fried prawns, wok-fried US Beef and steamed garoupa for your mains. Order the Zha Jiang Hand Pull Noodles for long life. End with the mango sago, fried taro or the almond pudding for dessert. Budget about ₱1,000/head.

Congratulations to Pin Wei and SEDA Vertis North for successfully opening their first specialty restaurant!

P.S. The Sunday buffet was so good, and I do hope they extend the buffet promo.
