A New World Hotel Makati Holiday Staycation Story

It was the first time we stayed at the New World Makati Hotel, a Chinese hotel brand that recently celebrated their 25 years in the Philippines. This hotel was the setting of a lot of memories during my P&G and partying days, and the brand stood the test of time in its iconic location on the corner of Makati and A. Arnaiz Avenues (now Pasay Road).

This holiday season, we created awesome staycation memories with our family of 4 boys.  Here’s our New World Makati Hotel Staycation story…

Director Suite (2426 – 2428)

We stayed at the 24th Floor Residences Club where the spacious reception is and where friendly hosts welcome you to your new home.

You’ll love the view of the San Lorenzo Village side of Makati without the high-rise buildings and the sight of planes taking off from NAIA airport.

We stayed at the Director Suites with a king size bed, a lounge chair, a large screen TV and an awesome view.

A sliding door partition opens up to the bathroom to give a more spacious feel and to let you watch TV while in the bathtub.

It has a living room with comfortable lounge chairs, a dry kitchen and an office space for your work from home moments.

Yugi boy got first dibs on the office space and pretended to work with Joshua as his client. We tried to explain to the boys what we do with the blog and the hotel features as well.

The boys stayed in the twin connecting room—also with a similar sliding door bathtub surprise—where they can enjoy on their own.

We usually bring a PlayStation during our staycations and we play Fortnite, Minecraft, Rocket League and NBA 2k all day long.

Living Room @ Residence Club (Open 6.00 am to 11.00 pm)

We loved to hang out here at the Living Room for breakfast (6.00 am – 10.30/11.00 am), afternoon tea (3.00 – 5.00 pm) and hors d’oeuvres and cocktails (5.30 – 7.30 pm).

It has an awesome view of the urbanscape with Greenbelt Mall set against the backdrop of Makati’s high-rise side.

This was our favorite spot in the living room because of the sala-like setup where we could play pusoy dos with the boys with some snacks and drinks.

The food at the Residence Club is quite good, and you can have a light dinner with wine and cocktails to start your night.

The boys enjoyed the drink-all-you-can ginger ale, fresh juices, sodas and San Pellegrino sparkling water throughout the stay.

We also preferred to have breakfast here on the 24th because there was a decent buffet spread prepared by your personal chef and…

…An a la carte menu, and they prepare order upon order of Filipino silogs.

My favorite a la carte breakfast is their unique bento box option intended for Japanese breakfast cravings.

4th Floor Swimming Pool

The swimming pool—with that country club tropical resort feel—is located on the 4th floor with a children’s pool and a lap pool with a depth of 4ft at the ends and 6ft in the middle.

The water was really cold specially during this season, but this didn’t deter the boys from jumping into the pool. Lamig lang talaga.

Jasmine Lunch

The best restaurant outlet is Jasmine for their Cantonese Lauriat and all-you-can-eat dim sum for lunch!

It deserves its own blog post: JASMINE: One of the Best Cantonese Restaurants in Makati @NewWorldMakati.

Cafe 1228

The all-day dining buffet of New World Makati is at Cafe 1228—named after the hotel’s zip code—that features Filipino, Western and Asian cuisines.

You can start with a prosecco or get their all you can drink option to go with the buffet.

We loved the freshly grilled seafood: shrimp and crabs cooked in butter garlic with lots of garlic bits.

Get the fresh catch of the day and ask them to grill it medium (because the kitchen tends to overcook the fish) and have the butter garlic served on the side.

Also, order the baked mussels with melted cheese.

We loved the dinuguan whenever it is available in the buffet even if we couldn’t resist eating this with rice.

Also, go for the grilled meats: sausages, steaks, lamb chops. But make sure to have them cooked medium so that they don’t end up tough and dry.

The private wine room is just the perfect spot for your family holiday celebration. 🙂

The wine room is just beside the lounge, so you can enjoy the live music in the comfort and privacy of your private room.

They have a lovely dessert spread and house-made ice cream prepared by their pastry team.

We loved the chocolate crispies to start dessert (and for takeout).

We also liked their chocolate cupcake (also for take out).

The little one loved the churros with caramel sauce. 🙂

Cafe 1228 Buffet needs a lot of improvement, but I have to commend the excellent service from Mark, Brien, Dan, Yke and Mimi! 👏👏👏

Marahai Spa

To end the day, make sure to book an in-room massage from the beautiful senior therapists of Marahai to experience one of the best in-room massages in Manila.

Final Thoughts

Overall, we love the boutique hotel-like simplicity of New World Makati Hotel. Although their focus is more on business travelers, the 24th-floor Residences Club is perfect for your next family staycation. We love the layout of the Director’s Suite with its sliding bathroom wall and the low-rise residential view of Makati.

Our family loves Chinese food, and the boys give the dim sum two thumbs up. Also, their holiday menu line-up is not your usual Cantonese menu. We enjoyed hanging out at the  Living Room at Residences Club because we preferred the quality of the food prepared by the Chef versus the quantity of food in the Cafe 1228 buffet.

Its location beside Greenbelt Mall is ideal for watching last full shows like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and for meeting friends over lunch in one of the GB restos.

Congratulations to New World Makati Hotel on your 25th year in Makati and cheers to a new world of success in 2020 and beyond!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

P.S. There’s now only one New World Hotel in Makati and the former New World Manila Bay Hotel decided to rebrand to the self-managed New Coast Hotel.
