Single Origin Osteria: Your Friendly Neighborhood Italian Resto in Salcedo

Single Origin, our go-to place for meeting friends over good drinks, now serves simple home-cooked Italian food in this corner bistro in Salcedo. It’s a quaint place for Italian comfort food—pizza and pasta or bistecca (steak) if you want to indulge in it.

In the battle of the new Osterias in Manila, here’s what to expect at the Osteria version of Single Origin.

First Things First

You’ll love the high ceiling and the ambiance created by the floor to ceiling windows with a view of the Salcedo trees.

It’s a bit quaint though quite congested during peak hours, and there are times when you’ll be forced to seat upstairs.

Single Origin Osteria Menu | Alcoholic Drinks | Coffee & Tea

I loved this Single Origin because of its expanded Italian menu, especially the availability of good value steak.

Appetizers

Complimentary chips, topped with shredded cheese (which, for me, were better than bread), were served.

Burrata Salad
Burrata Salad (₱480). Fresh Burrata, Cold Passata, Baked and Fresh Tomatoes, Balsamic Reduction, Olive Oil.

Sometimes, you just need fresh burrata with tomatoes, olive oil and balsamic sauce to start your meal.

Fried Mozzarella
Fried Mozzarella (₱575). Fresh Mozzarella, Prosciutto, Baked Tomatoes, Pesto, Fresh Basil, Balsamic Reduction and Olive Oil.

This was like a keto-friendly pizza version that lets you enjoy the mozza and prosciutto without the bread.

Pisco Sour
Pisco Sour (₱495). Pisco, Egg white, Lemon.

Why not have a pisco sour for lunch to get the party started or to have a more heart to heart meeting?

Pizza & Pasta

Classic Italian Pizza
Classic Italian (₱495). Passata, Arugula and Basil, Bacon Strip, Ricotta and Mozzarella.

Loved their pizza dough, with a soggy center and generous arugula toppings, that you have to fold to enjoy.

Osteria Classica
Osteria Classica (₱450). Sliced Potato, Mozzarella, Pecorino, Parmiggiano, Bacon, Egg, Red Onion and Olive Oil.

How about breakfast on a pizza to start your day?

Penne Amatriciana
Penne Amatriciana (₱350). Pomodoro Sauce, Bacon, Parmigiano, Peperoncino and Fresh Basil.

The pasta was on point—cooked al dente, properly made and not too much on the sweet side.

Main Dish

But for me, the highlight of Single Origin Osteria was their Bistecca Florentina!

Bistecca Florentina (₱2,995). Approx. 800g US Prime Bone-in Ribeye, Roasted Tomato, and Side Salad.

A very good value at 800g, the steak was cooked medium the proper way and good as it is without any sauce.

Santoro Red Wine
Santoro (₱280/glass, ₱1,250/bottle). Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Italy (vivino rating 3.6).

Order a bottle of Santoro to complete the long lazy Italian meal.

Porchetta
Porchetta (₱450). Porchetta. Sunny side up Egg and Pane Rustico.

How about two slices of fried pork belly topped with egg? Plus rice please to complete the Porchetta-silog.

Desserts

Pizza Nocciola
Pizza Nocciola (₱220). Nutella, Fresh Strawberries and Vanilla Ice Cream.

The Nutella pizza ala mode was quite good but too heavy for me.

Chemex 20 oz (₱250). Super Fine Filter Hand Drip – US.

Pair your dessert with single origin coffee brewed the way you like it.

Cappuccino Lava Cake
Cappuccino Lava Cake (₱295). Approx. 20 minutes. Baked Molten Belgian Dark Chocolate with Espresso topped with Vanilla Ice Cream.

A chocolate affogato-like version served ala mode! Our favorite.

"Hot" Chocolate Cheesecake
“Hot” Chocolate Cheesecake (₱220). Dark Chocolate Cheesecake and candied bird’s eye chili.

For those days you like to end with a sweet and spicy kick.

Final Thoughts

Overall, we love going to Single Origin for their coffee and cocktails, but the Osteria version now gives us a very good reason to go for their Italian comfort food.

We recommend the Burrata or Fried Mozzarella for your antipasti, Classic Italian Pizza as the first course and Bistecca Florentina or Porchetta for your secondi mains. Enjoy your dolce with Cappuccino Lava Cake and Single Origin coffee. Budget about ₱800/head for the meal and ₱1,500/head with the bistecca+wine.

Reserve the center table for a memorable business meeting or a long lazy lunch with old friends. 🙂

Congratulations to Carlo Lorenzana and the Single Origin Osteria team for the awesome Osteria concept!

About Single Origin Osteria

As exacting as their standards are, Italian grandmothers would approve of Single Origin Osteria. At least the grandmother of its executive chef, Juan Barcos, would approve of the new Salcedo Village spot, especially considering how much she’s inspired its menu. A 3rd-generation cook whose family migrated from Italy, the chef drew memories spent devouring pasta, notably his nonna’s lasagna, from his childhood. (“Nonna” is Italian for grandmother.) This sort of home-cooked traditional fare, the chef’s signature pizzas and a Bistecca alla Fiorentina are among the restaurant’s stand-out dishes when it opened in early 2019.

With warm, inviting interiors and a slew of cocktails and wines perfect for lounging with on a fine Roman holiday, Single Origin Osteria offers the sort of bistro atmosphere for festive toasts and intimate dinners. Certainly a setting to savor life’s simple satisfactions, as the name “Osteria” implies and as only the Italians have mastered. Celebrate this food and drink however which way—only we need to impress our Italian grandmother, you don’t have to.
