LOS INDIOS BRAVOS: Why You Have to Try the Best English Pub in Boracay

What I like about Los Indios Bravos is that it features the signature pub food recipes of Chef Kenneth Cacho and Chef Norbert Gandler of ISCAHM fame while celebrating the best of all-Filipino Craft Beers (on tap), Brown and White Spirits of the Philippines at the same time. Most importantly, it pays tribute to “Los Indios Bravos”—the Brave Natives of the 1800’s, Filipino intellectuals and warrior-poets and the Tirol Family of Boracay Island.

Bong Tirol, Martin Jickain and wife Maggie Tirol established the new Los Indios Bravos hidden at the back of White House in the New Boracay.

We tried most of the food and drinks, and here are our favorites that you should not miss at the island’s best English pub…

First Things First

Los Indios Bravos Menu: Appetizers, Salads, Pies, Seafood Platter | Main Course, Sandwich, Desserts | Craft Beer | Drinks

Best time to go is during lunchtime because you can indulge in the food (and burn it for the rest of the day). It’s also not too crowded. Plus, it lets you escape from the heat of the mid-day sun.

Spend time to read the recommendation of Los Indios Bravos of modern times.

Appetizers

Smoked Tomato Soup
Smoked Tomato Soup (₱220). Sour Cream, Basil, Garlic Croutons

Its smoky tomato goodness was so satisfying that we ordered this every meal.

Indios Platter (₱580). Croquettes, Bitterballen, Baked Oyster, Chicken Goujons, Chicken Wings and Nachos
Indios Platter (₱580). Croquettes, Bitterballen, Baked Oyster, Chicken Goujons, Chicken Wings and Nachos

The appetizers are spot on, and you can order the platter for the group. Or just order our favorite nachos and croquettes.

At Night Only

At night, it turns into a dark pub, and it becomes a bit busy, with 2-3 seatings, during the weekend.

Roxas Fresh Oyster
Roxas Fresh Oyster (8 pieces – ₱320). Horseradish-Tomato Ketchup and Red Wine-Shallot Vinegar

You can enjoy the fresh Roxas oysters, which they only serve at night to ensure the best quality possible. Ang sarap!

Oyster Rockefeller
Oyster Rockefeller (8 pieces – ₱360). Baked Oyster with sauteed Spinach, Bacon bits, Mornay sauce and mixed Cheese

You can also order it topped with spinach and melted cheeses, but the fresh one is still the best.

Craft Beer Flights (Set of 3 - ₱150).
Craft Beer Flights (Set of 3 – ₱150).

I loved their handcrafted beers on tap, and my favorites were the strong ones: DIPA Engkanto Double IPA (₱215/glass) and De Puta Madre Crows XXIPA (₱215/glass).

Strong Beer Challenge

Strong Beer Challenge
Strong Beer Challenge (₱200/beer x 7 beers = ₱1,400).

Challenge yourself and your friends to finish 7 strong craft beers (above 6% abv) in 5 minutes!

Winners get 50% off (pay only ₱700 for the 7 beers) and get their names included in the distinguished Strong Beer Drinker wall.

Main Dishes

Pub-Style Fish and Chips
Pub-Style Fish and Chips (₱380). Snapper, Mushy Peaks, Chips, Malt Vinegar and Tartare Sauce

One of the best fish and chips we tried—properly done similar to the ones you can get in London.

The Golden Paratha
The Golden Paratha (₱395). Fried Flaky Indian Bread Stuffed with Curried Chicken, Topped with Fried Onion, Yoghurt, and Cilantro

A proper English Pub always has Indian food in the menu, and Spanky raves about this Golden Paratha that you can only get here.

Lamb Kofta
Los Indios Bravos Lamb Kofta (₱480). Minced Lamb skewers served with Hummus, Fatoosh salad, Cucumber Raita and Moutabel

Their minced lamb kofta was tasty, with consistent texture and without the ango of the lamb. Eat it with the raita and a bit of hummus.

Dino Ribs
Dino Ribs (₱2,495). 7-8 Rib US Angus Beef Back Ribs, Hickory Smoked BBQ Sauce, Coleslaw and Buttered Cajun Corn with a Choice of Steak Fries, Steamed Rice or Mashed Potatoes

This was so big and could satisfy an intermittent faster for lunch. The meat was thick and had a fall off the bones quality, and you could taste the BBQ flavor all throughout.

Ang sarap ng Buttered Cajun Corn if you are going healthy and resisting the temptation of ordering the Steak Rice.

Pan-Roasted Salmon Fillet
Pan-Roasted Salmon Fillet (₱495). Topped with Tomato Chutney and Steakhouse sauce on the side served with Green Salad with Passion Fruit Dressing

Their salmon is a good choice if you are on a diet but want to make every bite count.

Local Spirits

After the meal, try a digestive of Sirena Spirits from Aklan or the handcrafted Crow Gin.

Sirena Salted Caramel Vodka
Sirena Salted Caramel Vodka (₱1,500/bottle or ₱150/shot) from Aklan

This was dessert on vodka on the rocks, which was a bit sweet with a kick.

Sirena Blue Pea Gin
Sirena Blue Pea Gin (₱1,500/bottle or ₱150/shot) from Aklan

You should try the blue pea gin served with cucumber garnish and your choice of tonic.

Crows Gin
Crows Gin (₱5,500/bottle or ₱250/shot)

You can also enjoy your Gin & Tonic with handcrafted Crows Gin from Manila.

Desserts

Deep Fried Mars Bar
Deep Fried Mars Bar (₱250). Vanilla Ice Cream, Chocolate Soil and Creme Anglaise

For something unique to end, try the coated and fried Mars Bars served ala mode. It was a bit too sweet.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this is indeed the best English Pub on the island of Boracay, now at home in White House.

We would go back for the Smoked Tomato Soup and Roxas Fresh Oysters for appetizers then Pub-Style Fish and ChipsLamb Kofta or Dino Ribs for main dishes. We loved the wide selection of all-Filipino Craft Beers on tap and Sirena Spirits from Aklan. Budget about P800/head for food and drinks.

Best to go during lunchtime to enjoy the food or at the end of the day to start your Boracay night with certified Roxas-fresh oysters and craft beer.

Mabuhay to Los Indios Bravos of Boracay—Bong Tirol, Martin Jickain and wife Maggie Tirol for taking the Los Indios Bravos concept to a whole new level with the ambiance and location while still maintaining the food quality Chef Gandler is known for.

P.S. Can you name who the 1800’s Los Indios are, and can you spot the Tirol godfather in the Los Indios Bravos wall art?
