Barcino Desayuno.jpg

DESAYUNO is Barcino’s tribute to the Spanish breakfast tradition in Manila featuring classic Spanish breakfast favorites and introducing Spanish-inspired Filipino breakfast creations. It’s a popular breakfast in the Barcino Santolan branch, recently introduced in Barcino Uptown Parade—a great place to have a morning meeting in the BGC/Uptown Bonifacio Area where you can enjoy cava for breakfast. 🙂

Eating late breakfasts, which is quite the norm in Spain, is becoming popular in Manila as well because of the intermittent fasting trend.

We had a brunch-out with the boys, and here are some tips on how to organize your own awesome Desayuno experience…

First Things First

Barcino Desayuno-2.jpg

Desayuno Ala Carte Menu: Un Comienzo Fresco, Huevos, Desayuno Classic Filipino, Desayuno Classico Espanol, El Lado Dulce  | Panaderia, Bebidas

I love the high ceiling, white table cloth and wine bar ambiance ideal for breakfast meetings or lazy brunches with friends.

Barcino Desayuno-9.jpg

Cava (₱300/glass).

Yes, why not have Cava for breakfast to start your day just like in Spain? 🙂

Jugos Fresh Juices-1.jpg

Jugos (₱165/glass).
Freshly squeezed seasonal fruit juice.

The boys got a healthy dose of freshly squeezed orange carrot or cucumber apple juice.

Panaderia

Barcino Desayuno-12.jpg

The meal starts with complimentary specialty breads of ciabbatta, chocolate croissant, walnut bread, sultana cinnamon, butter croissant, pineapple turnover, whole meal or butter croissant.

Barcino Desayuno-24.jpg

Cesta Variada de Bolleria (₱320).
6 different kinds of baked bread and pastry.

You can order an extra serving of assorted bread while you wait for your main breakfast.

Un Comienzo Fresco

Barcino Desayuno-23.jpg

Muesli con Frutas Frescas (₱360).
Assorted Fruit Bowl served with house-made Cultured Milk, Chia Seeds, Granola and Dried Berries.

You can have a healthy power breakfast of fresh fruits and muesli to start your day right.

A bit too healthy for our taste.

Huevos

Barcino Desayuno-33.jpg

Tortilla de Patatas (₱340).
Spanish Omelette with Potatoes and Onions.

This is the traditional breakfast of omelette with potato chunks plus bread with garlic and tomato.

Not as good as the ones in Spain, but OK na for Manila.

Barcino Desayuno-27.jpg

Huevos Revueltos (₱350).
Scrambled Egg served on Toast with a side of Roasted Potatoes and Tomatoes.

You can also have your eggs served on toast with roasted potatoes and tomatoes on the side.

But I prefer my eggs without bread like this…

Barcino Desayuno-40.jpg

Torta Espanola (₱450).
Chorizo, Potatoes, Green Bell Pepper, Onions served with our Signature Spanish Bread.

Loved this omelette with bits of chorizo and potato. Light but tasty.

Pancake

Barcino Desayuno-18.jpg

The boys would call out first dibs on each of the plates.

Barcino Desayuno-20.jpg

★ Desayuno Pancake  (₱450).
Fluffy Pancakes with Whipped Strawberry Butter, Maple Syrup and Lemon Curd.

The pancakes were so light, fluffy and tasty that we ended up fighting over each slice.

Desayuno Classico Filipino

What makes Desayuno stand-out is its selection of Spanish-inspired Filipino dishes.

Barcino Desayuno-26.jpg

★ Salpicao Y Huevo (₱450).
Sirloin Beef with Sunny-side up Fried Eggs and Garlic Rice Pilaf with Pickled Papaya.

This is beef marinated as salpicao but served as tapsilog with garlic rice. 🙂 So good!

Barcino Desayuno-34.jpg

★ Desayunno Arroz Caldo  (₱480).
Porridge with Chicken, Ginger, Onion Cracklings, Saffron and Roasted Chicken Inasal.

This, served with saffron flavor, lots of garlic and a separate serving of chicken inasal, is the best in the Desayuno menu.

Barcino Desayuno-38.jpg

The boys ordered extra garlic rice to enjoy the salpicao and inasal.

Barcino Desayuno-36.jpg

Champurrado  (₱380).
Puffed Rice and Venezuelan Chocolate Porridge, Dulce de Leche, Bacalao Flakes and Milk.

This is a good attempt but the bacalao, Venezuelan chocolate and puffed rice combination was just OK.

El Lado Dulce

Barcino Desayuno-47.jpg

Churros (₱250).
Deep-fried Dough with Chocolate Dip.

For dessert, we really wanted churros but this was a bit crunchy and hard. We prefer our churros crunchy on the outside but a bit chewy on the inside.

Barcino Desayuno-43.jpg

Cinnamon Tostadas (₱370).
Cinnamon Toast topped with Strawberry Caramel and Fresh Cheese Curds.

I liked the idea of toasted cinnamon bread, but the boys did not like the strawberry sauce. Maybe they can just serve this on the side as an option.

Final Thoughts

Desayuno Breakfast with the Boys

Overall, the boys loved the Desayunno Arroz Caldo, Salpicao y Huevo and the Desayuno Pancake. I like the idea of enjoying cava for breakfast with my omelette. It’s also good to have healthy choices of muesli and fresh juices. Budget about ₱600/head.

Try it out on your next breakfast meeting or brunch out with friends.

Desayuno is a great innovative brunch concept from Barcino. Don’t let the Uptown Parade location deter you from trying it out.

Congratulations to Barcino for this breakfast innovation that’s open as late as 1.00 pm.
