Asian Culinary Exchange

The ASIAN CULINARY EXCHANGE is the first ever event where top chefs and restaurateurs from all over Asia come together for a two-day event aimed at improving the countries’ food and beverage industry.

The first day includes a forum tackling the issues in the industry like harassment in the workplace, gender issues, sustainability, managing food waste, and how to set up a restaurant in the social media age. The second day was an exciting collaboration dinner with Asia’s top chefs and Manila’s best restaurants that are up for grabs for anyone interested!

The guest chefs include chef Vicky Cheng from VEA Hong Kong, who earned a Michelin star in 2016, chef Thitid Tassanakajohn of Le Du in Bangkok, which currently ranks number 14 in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, and MasterChef Asia winner Woo Wai Leong who’s now behind Singapore’s Restaurant Ibid. There will also be local chefs and speakers, such as Bruce Ricketts and Dedet de la Fuente, sharing their knowledge about the industry.

Here’s what we learned from day one’s forum…Read more

There are so many things to do and visit, I can barely scratch the surface. Check out the list of my suggestions, to make the most of your 2 days in the big apple…

Ultimate Taste Test

Ultimate Taste Test Masters Edition Judges Scorecard and the Winners are…

Ultimate Taste Test Masters Edition 2018-125.jpg

The recently concluded 16th Annual Ultimate Taste Test, the longest running food event since 2008, was held at 55 Events Place along Scout Rallos St. in Quezon City. Some of the judges say this was one of the best UTT events yet because of the quality of the vendors, the online voting process and the impact to the food purveyors.

(Dulce Magat-Gibb of A Table, Chef Sunshine Puey, Chef Sharwin Tee and Jutes Templo of Gino’s Pizza)

For this year’s Masters Edition, instead of getting the public’s vote, we brought in the restaurant industry’s Masters—chefs, food influencers and restaurateurs—as the judges. Their invaluable experience, advice and rating are highly essential especially to home-based businesses that are just starting out.

Ultimate Taste Test Masters Edition 2018-61.jpg

Set in a more intimate venue, the Ultimate Taste Test Masters Edition gave the vendors and Masters the opportunity to be more candid and personal.

We had almost a hundred judges and 26 vendors who supported this year’s event. We would like to extend our thanks to all our friends in the food industry who graced the event!

Causeway Seafood: Why I Love Chinese Birthday Lauriats! (A Review)

familyphoto360.jpg

I love Chinese lauriat celebrations! I think this is a beautiful Chinese family tradition where everyone shares a communal feast on a roundtable with everybody wearing red to bring good luck to the celebrant.

We don’t have it in my Filipino family and I married my wife so that we can eat Chinese lauriats every time there is a birthday celebration.

My wife’s family often celebrates at Causeway because everyone enjoys the food— good variety and good value for money.

Here’s what we love about the Chinese lauriat at Causeway…

Fly from Manila to New York in 15 Hours! @FlyPAL

Manila to New York @FlyPAL

Yup, you got that right—15 hours only! Starting October 29, 2018, PHILIPPINE AIRLINES now flies non-stop to New York onboard their newest and most modern aircraft of its generation, the Airbus A350!

This, they say, is the second to the longest non-stop flight next to Singapore Airlines, and it’s the fastest way from Manila to the Big Apple with no more stopovers via Tokyo or Taipei, unlike my experience before that took 22 hours of travel time.

Manila to New York @FlyPAL

Plus, foodies flying out to New York with PAL, who want to enjoy authentic American steak, do not have to wait before landing to indulge their craving as business class passengers on the non-stop flights to New York will experience top global brand Wolfgang’s Steakhouse gourmet quality steak dinners on board.

Among my favorites in PAL’s prime New York route’s mouthwatering menu were Wolfgang’s Fillet Mignon, Striploin Steak, Grilled Chilean Seabass, French onion soup and the glorious New York Cheesecake.

It was definitely an upgrade experience for passengers flying to New York in Business Class! Check out the new extra wide body Airbus A350…
