MIGHTY QUINN’S: New York’s Award-Winning Slow-Cooked Barbecue Now in Manila! @MightyQuinnsBBQ

As featured 10 Most Awesome NEW (Franchised) Restaurants in Manila 2016!

Mighty Quinn's

Finally, New Yorks’ famed barbecue joint is now open in Manila!

Mighty Quinn’s is iconic for their New York-style Barbecue cooked the old school way–with wood and time. While they aim to honor their Texas roots, they break away in their use of non-traditional meats such as pork ribs, burnt ends, and heritage livestock.

New Yorkers have raved over their tender and moist beef brisket, savory smokey pulled pork, and impressively massive ribs, all slow smoked to perfection!

What separates Mighty Quinn’s from all the regular barbecue joints is their focus on every part of the menu, from the side dishes down to the drinks. Of course, their meats are still the main attraction.

Here’s what we liked at the newly opened Mighty Quinn’s Manila…

Makansutra-47.jpg

MAKANSUTRA, the famous Singaporean Hawker Market by K.F. Seetoh, has finally re-opened in Manila together with local partners J.J. Yulo and Chef Him Uy de Baron.

It first launched in Manila Ocean park in 2009 and re-opened after the successful 2016 World Street Food Congress held in Manila. Makansutra is the famed food bible in Singapore, featuring heritage street food. Makan means “to eat” in Malay, and Sutra means “string, thread” in Sanskrit.

It can be daunting to visit here because of the variety of choices–over 70 dishes and 11 street stalls in a food hall inspired by the Singaporean hawker market.

Here’s a guide to help you on your foodie date in Makansutra in SM Megamall…

FOO’D /fú-dō/: Accessible Italian Pop Cuisine by Chef Davide Oldani!

As featured 10 Most Awesome NEW (Franchised) Restaurants in Manila 2016!

FOO'D

FooDee Global Concepts (the same people behind the successful Tim Ho Wan, Todd English, Mesa, and Sunnies Cafe) has brought Michelin Star Chef Davide Oldani‘s pop cuisine concept FOO’D (/fú-dō/) to Manila.

Chef Oldani defines “pop cuisine” as accessible luxury cuisine with Italian roots, taking the simplest ingredients and turning these into a beautiful dish.

FOO’D’s unique selling point is that they offer Michelin-grade food, fine ambiance, and quality service at a reasonable price, from their P800 three-course menu to their P1,200 four-course menu. And because everything is upgradeable, you can start at P800 then work your way up (you can even go crazy with a P3000 menu and load up on the experience).

Here are some of the exciting world-renowned signature dishes brought to Manila by Chef Oldani…

Sagada Orange Picking Guide at Rock Farm Inn (Photo Essay)

Sagada Day 2-44.jpg

Orange Picking in Sagada has always been on the bucket list for our kids ever since they tried and enjoyed the Strawberry picking experience in Benguet.

Some people think it’s corny and a tourist trap, but for children, tactile experiences like this can be unforgettable. Learning first hand where Sagada oranges come from also gives them a better appreciation of these fruits.

Here’s a photo essay of our Sagada Orange Picking experience at Rock Farm Inn…

BLUEWATER SUMILON: South Cebu’s Eco Luxury Private Island Getaway!

Bluewater Sumilon

Bluewater Sumilon Beach Resort is one of Cebu’s high-end resorts situated on the 24-hectare Sumilon island off the tip of Southern Cebu.

The word Sumilon comes from the word “sumilong”, which means to take refuge, as the island’s caves serve as shelters for fishermen from incoming storms.

The island itself is filled with history and natural attractions. Whether its being surrounded by crystal clear waters with beautiful varying aquamarine hues, snorkeling in the first ever marine sanctuary, and lying on its white sand shifting sandbar, or kayaking at the natural lagoon, swimming with the whale sharks, and even the occasional sighting of black tip sharks, Sumilon has something for everyone!

We love the resort because of the Filipino lifestyle experience with their modern Filipino rooms and the warmest greetings from their fully employed all-Filipino staff.

GAIA Sagada Cafe: That Famed Cafe in “That Thing Called Tadhana” (Review)

Sagada Day 1-64.jpg

GAIA CAFE is a community-based Kankanaey cafe by Gawani in Ambasing, Sagada. Its tree-house-inspired cafe made from scraps is located on a cliff with a 270-degree view of the valley on the way to Sumaguing Cave.

The name means “Mother Earth” in Greek, and they only serve organic, community-sourced ingredients from around Sagada. The menu is mostly vegetarian, but not limited to it.

Here’s what to expect in this cafe featured in the movie “That Thing Called Tadhana”…

YOGURT HOUSE SAGADA: Best Breakfast Place in Sagada! (2016 Review)

Sagada Day 1-34.jpg

YOGURT HOUSE has been voted the #1 restaurant in Sagada that every local or foreign tourist must visit as part of their Sagada experience. It’s famous for its yogurt, which is even better than the ones here in Manila.

It’s been very consistent in terms of quality over the years, but its price keeps increasing. It also has very strict rules, which adds to its snobbish appeal.

Here’s what to expect…

LUMIANG TO SUMAGUING CAVE: Conquering Sagada’s Cave Connection!

Untitled

Aside from its coveted weather and otherworldly landscapes, Sagada is blessed with stunning limestone caves filled with millennia worth of history. The most popular locations for caving activities are in the Sumaguing, Lumiang, and Balangagan Caves. Here, adventurers can test their limits while exploring ancient burial grounds and magnificent rock formations.

Most tourists opt for the 2-hour course at Sumaguing; this is the quickest and most scenic route that's ideal for visitors short on time. We chose the 4 to 5-hour Cave Connection course, which starts at Lumiang and ends at Sumaguing, to have ample time to explore the inner beauty of Sagada.

Here's how we conquered the Cave Connection Challenge…
