City Garden Hotel-75.jpg

CITY GARDEN GRAND HOTEL is a 4-star business hotel in the heart of Brgy. Poblacion with spacious rooms and a rooftop pool and bar resto.

We recently visited for a staycation experience last Holy Week and here’s what to expect…

City Garden GRAND Hotel is located at the corner of Makati Avenue and Kalayaan Avenue (don’t mistake this for City Garden Hotel).

ROOM #2301

City Garden Hotel-5.jpg
Our room is quite spacious with two queen size beds that’s good for a family with 4 boys.

City Garden Hotel-6.jpg
The WiFi is quite fast and it is positioned correctly, away from the glare from the windows. Check out the Spice Cafe Room Service Menu if you want to order food.

City Garden Hotel-8.jpg
It has a roomy bathroom with a separate shower, toilet, and a bathtub.

The toiletries are just OK. Best to bring your own set.

BREAKFAST

City Garden Hotel-108.jpg
Breakfast is at the Spice Cafe on the 2nd floor.

They have a good spread of cheese, cold cuts, and bread.

City Garden Hotel-104.jpg

I like the salad selections, with kani and macaroni options for breakfast.

City Garden Hotel-109.jpg
You can start breakfast on a different culinary note…

City Garden Hotel-114.jpg
…or go for the tried and tested Pinoy breakfast favorites.

There’s your usual egg station…

…and Chinese noodles and dimsum corner.

City Garden Hotel-120.jpg
Check out the gym on the 9th floor for your morning exercise.

You can also get a massage in the spa or in your room. It’s just a bit expensive. Check out the La Famosa Wellness Spa Menu.

SPICE LUNCH

SPICE CAFE MENU: Chef Message | All Day Breakfast | Soup, Appetizers | Salad, Entree | Filipino Corner | Pizza | Pasta & Noodles, Sandwiches | Dessert | Beverages

Make sure to reserve this corner table with a nice view of Makati Avenue and Kalayaan.

We bought Travel Scrabble and the boys are already crazy about it. Board games are a good alternative to mobile gadgets.

City Garden Hotel-59.jpg
Fruitti di Mare (P295). Spaghetti tossed in tomato sauce and fresh seafood served with garlic bread.

The pasta is just OK.

City Garden Hotel-60.jpg
Baby Back Ribs (P425). Slow roasted and barbecued baby back ribs with buttered vegetables and a choice of plain rice, garlic ric, mashed potato, coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, corn, or garlic mushroom.

Wanted more flavor from the meat itself but this is a good value for its size and price.

City Garden Hotel-61.jpg
Quattro Formaggi (P350). Mozzarella, parmesan, blue cheese, and cheddar.

The boys did not like the pizza because of the hard cookie-like crust.

City Garden Hotel-63.jpg
Hainanese Chicken (P325). Steamed lemongrass chicken with ginger rice and soup.

This was a bit bland and the instead of ginger sauce they use sesame.

ROOF DECK SWIMMING POOL

City Garden Hotel-77.jpg

One of the perks of staying here is swimming in the roof deck pool.

City Garden Hotel-73.jpg

It’s a bit cold from the winds and a bit awkward because there’s a lot of foreigners with their Pinay girlfriends.

City Garden Hotel-71.jpg
Unobstructed view of Pasig River from the roof deck.

City Garden Hotel-66.jpg
Best part is they serve eat-all-you-can halo-halo while swimming.

City Garden Hotel-99.jpg
The halo-halo was really good, especially in the summer afternoon heat.

MONGOLIAN NIGHT @ FIREFLY

City Garden Hotel-10.jpg

At night the Firefly roof deck bar transforms into a Mongolian Buffet.

A night skyline view of Makati Avenue from Firefly.

The pool provides a nice romantic ambiance at night.

City Garden Hotel-38.jpg
There’s an acoustic band that plays if you want to just chillax the entire evening.

City Garden Hotel-17.jpg

We love the make-your-own tacos, nachos, & quesadilla station, which is part of the Mongolian Buffet.

City Garden Hotel-36.jpg

Choose from the different vegetable, seafood, and meat options.

City Garden Hotel-23.jpg

You can mix your own and even specify if you want it spicy. Another popular option is to mix it with sate sauce.

City Garden Hotel-33.jpg
The kitchen bar is located in the middle with the tables around it and its own view of Makati Skyline.

City Garden Hotel-31.jpg

Make sure to try the Mongolian at least once during your stay. The boys did not like it so you can order a la carte for the young ones.

City Garden Hotel-3.jpg

Overall, we love the spacious room, the central Makati location, and roof deck pool at the City Garden Grand Hotel.

The food is just OK but still good value for money, and the service is a bit more relaxed. It’s just a bit awkward bringing kids to the pool with a lot of foreigners and their Pinay girlfriends.
