EDSA Shangri-La Manila is one of the lifestyle oases in the middle of the urban jungle in the Mandaluyong/Ortigas area. It’s a great home base for a staycation weekend with the family in the northern part of the metro.

Here’s a guide on what to do during your staycation at Edsa Shangri-La Hotel…

TOWER WING PREMIER (ROOM #1109)

Mad For Lobsters-2.jpg
We stayed in a 45 sqm premier room located in the corner of Tower Wing, with a queen sized and an extra bed.

My blogging spot with the glass executive writing desk, high-speed wireless internet, and magnificent view of the Ortigas skyline.

Mad For Lobsters-4.jpg
The bathroom is spacious with a bathtub, separate shower cubicle, and toilet.

Shangri-La is one of the hotels that produces their own line of high-quality toiletries.

The cabinets are equipped with iron, ironing board, hair dryer, bathrobes, see-through drawers, and a full-size safety deposit box.

Nice welcome treats: fruits, cookies, nuts, and funky monkey–milk chocolate with marshmallows and crispies designed by Rajo Laurel.

HEAT BREAKFAST

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-6.jpg
The breakfast scene gets busy around 9 am until about 10.30am when it ends.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-5.jpg
Reserve our favorite spot in this red couch table, which is adjacent to the buffet.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-12.jpg
Start with some hot seafood ramen to get your body going during breakfast.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-20.jpg
The dimsum choices are just OK (hakaw is only served on Sundays).

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-2.jpg
It’s never too early in the day to enjoy good Japanese sushi and maki.

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-4.jpg
Get these burrata balls for your bread.

For something sweet, check out their French toasts, waffles, and pancakes.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-25.jpg
Visit the honey station for your sweetening needs.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-28.jpg
In the morning, there’s a magtataho who goes around the restaurant offering hot taho.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-16.jpg
Filipino breakfast would not be complete without taho!

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-31.jpg
You can end your breakfast with a cup of Dilmah tea or Nespresso coffee.

EDSA SHANGRI-LA POOL OASIS

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-14.jpg
The pool is very inviting, surrounded by coconut trees. There are two sections here–the general 4 ft area, and the 9 ft area for adults only.

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-19.jpg
The boys like this water playground…

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-17.jpg
…and the slide in the kids’ pool.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-60.jpg
It’s also cool to hang out by the poolside at night.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-62.jpg
On Saturdays, there’s live acoustic music that surrounds the entire pool area.

CHI SPA

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-140.jpg
After dinner, check out the Chi Spa (located at the back of the pool area) for a relaxing massage to end the day.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-145.jpg
The massage rooms are located on the 4th floor. It can get a bit claustrophobic because it does not have any windows.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-146.jpg
You can start the massage with a steam bath for 15 minutes.

EDSA Shangrila Staycation-151.jpg
Try their signature Philippine Hilot (60 mins – P3,200)  characterized by long strokes and good pressure that will lull you to sleep.

SENJU SUNDAY BRUNCH

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-33.jpg
On Sunday, check out the Senju Japanese Sunday brunch before you check out.

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-35.jpg
It’s very popular so make sure to reserve a table and be there early when it starts.

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-43.jpg
There’s a wide assortment of Japanese sushi, maki, and sashimi.

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-44.jpg
My favorite is the teppanyaki station…

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-46.jpg
…where you can order beef teppanyaki…

Edsa Shangrila Staycation-48.jpg
…shrimp, and salmon teppanyaki.
