FAT is a comfort food restaurant featuring “fat” food conceptualized by Chef Mikel Zaguirre of Locavore fame. Renee Figueroa, the owner of Izumi Sake Bar, decided to revamp the concept into what is now one of the most talked about restaurants in Burgos Circle in BGC.

We tried FAT twice, first with the family and then with Team OAP, and here’s what we think about it…

FAT has a minimalist interior and a well-curated menu. Make sure to order the bestsellers immediately because they usually run out of stocks.

Reserve a table in the second floor if you’re looking for a more private area or if you’re dining with a group.

★ Flammenkueche (P390 +9% service charge). Lard Focaccia, Sour Cream, Cream Cheese, Smoked Salmon, Arugula, Cornichons, Maple Balsamic Glaze.

The flat focaccia is flavorful with lard, sour cream, and cream cheese, balanced by the bitterness of the arugula and the sourness of the pickled mini-cucumber. I like the smoke salmon topping and the sweet maple flavor finish. Good value for a generous portion.

Green Tea Chicharon (P190 +9% service charge). House made chicharon, honey vinegar, green tea salt.

It’s a big crunchy chicharon with gourmet condiment options. Order this if you want to pay for presentation.

FAT Poutine (P380 +9% service charge). Frites, Roasted Bone Marrow, Mushroom Ragout, House-made Double Smoked Bacon, Kesong Puti, Bone Marrow Gravy. 

Why would you eat fries with a deadly roasted bone marrow and bone marrow gravy? A signature #MakeMeFAT dish.

Pork’s Ear En Croute (P370 +9% service charge). Grilled Pork’s Ear, Herb Oil, Mango Mayo, Saffron Aioli, Rye, Pico de Gallo

This sisig bruschetta was surprisingly good with the crunchy grilled pork’s ear with flavors of mango, garlic, and saffron on rye.

Fat Cubano (P490 +9% service charge). Corned Beef, Ham, Kimchi Kraut, Pickled Cucumber & Onion, Emmenthal, Frites. 

Most people rave about their sandwiches–either the duck burger or this Cubano sandwich.

Butter Poached Tuna (P780 +9% service charge). Sous vide tuna, mushroom ragout, asparagus, sauteed spinach, wasabi beurre blanc, couscous, quinoa.

The quality of the tuna was disappointing.

Moroccan Spiced Chicken Fillet (P590 +9% service charge). Grilled Chicken, Spanakopita, Cherry Tomato, Sour Cream, Pico de Gallo.

We like this grilled Mediterranean-spiced chicken with a Greek spinach pie surprise at the bottom.

 Salpicao (P940 +9% service charge). Angus rib eye, garlic confit, roasted garlic & steak rice, 64 degree egg.

The best item on the menu with slices of rib eye steak in roasted garlic and soy sauce. It’s a delicious version of steak and eggs with steak rice.

★ Salmon & Uni Pasta (P780 +9% service charge). Seashell pasta, capers, parmesan, arugula, 64 degree egg, uni, sous vide salmon, crispy salmon skin. 

A big portion of tender, flavorful salmon with umami flavors from uni, sous vide egg, and crispy salmon skin. The seashell pasta was a good choice to help absorb and scoop up the sauce.

Bacon Baklava (P310 +9% service charge)

The pastry was not as crispy as expected. The bacon baklava combination was saved only by the Vanilla ice cream.

The food is flavorful but expensive, almost twice that of Locavore’s pricing. But you will be impressed by Chef Kel’s flavor combinations and his talent for creating Filipino dishes with a French flair.  

I recommend ordering the Flammenkueche to start and the Salpicao and Salmon & Uni Pasta for your mains. Order the FAT Cubano or Duck Burger if you’re in a mood for a sandwich.

Skip the fat snacks and desserts. Budget about P700/head.

The ambiance is conducive for chatting and their service is friendly and helpful. It’s a good place for a date or for celebrating a special milestone with family and friends.
