COSTA COFFEE: Everything You Need to Know about @CostaCoffee in Manila! #LondonStyle

Costa Coffee Opening-40.jpg

COSTA COFFEE, the UK’s No. 1 Coffee Chain, finally opens their first branch in Manila, in partnership with Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. This also marks the first time that the Gokongweis will enter into the restaurant food retail business in the Philippines.

Typically, when Filipinos are asked to think of London, they think of English Tea and tea time. But the coffee industry there is quite big, with a recent explosion of coffee culture in the UK’s capital.

Costa Coffee was founded by two Italian immigrant brothers, Bruno and Sergio Costa in Lambeth, London, in 1971. It is one of four major coffee chains (and the dominant player) in London, along with Starbucks, Caffè Nero, and Prêt à Manger. Costa Coffee is best known for their espresso-based coffee using their signature Mocha Italia original blend, their famous Flat White Coffee, and cheaper yet better quality coffee than Starbucks’.

Here’s everything you need to know about Costa Coffee in Manila…

BALAY DAKO Tagaytay by Antonio’s: What to Expect and What to Order? (A Review)

Balay Dako-1-2

BALAY DAKO is the latest Filipino Restaurant by Chef Tony Boy Escalante serving Filipino comfort dishes and classic Tagaytay food. It’s name means “Big House” in Negresense, and refers to the gathering place of Filipino families for milestone celebrations and other special occasions.

My brother and parents went there last Independence Day weekend and they found the food salty. We visited with our foodie friends last weekend and they were also disappointed with the food. I suppose those who visit Balay Dako have high expectations of the food quality and service, which the Antonio’s brand is known for.

At the end of the day, I believe it’s all about setting the right expectations, ordering the right food, and going there at the right time and for the right purpose

Here is our review of Balay Dako by the Antonio’s Group…

Frangos Portuguese Kitchen-20.jpg

FRANGOS is a popular Portuguese-style Piri Piri Chicken stand in the Legaspi Sunday Market, by Pia and Jonathan Renato. “Frango” means “chicken” in Portuguese, and sounds similar to the popular Piri Piri Chicken fast food chain, Nandos.

Jonathan was known in the bar and restaurant scene for Verve Room, Kemistry, Manila DJ Club, and the 32nd Street Bar and Resto, while Pia was known for Golden Triangle during the Malate Days.

They recently opened a standalone restaurant for all the Frangos fanatics in the market and extended their offerings to include other Portuguese favorites.

Here’s what we think about Frangos…

WAVES: Heartbreaking Island Romance and the Beauty of Mangenguey, Cebu, & Ilona Struzik! @WaverlyPictures

I felt so proud after watching Waves, a high-quality Philippine movie about an intimate island love story, starring alluring Polish model Ilona Struzik, and Filipino Actor Baron Geisler. Audiences are sure to be mesmerized by the cinematic backdrop of Mangenguey Island in Palawan and the Whale sharks of Cebu, both featured throughout the movie.

Could we finally be seeing a renaissance of the art of film making in the Philippines? Thanks to Waverly Pictures, a Cebu-based motion picture company dedicated to more in-depth, quality, and narrative films, that just might be the case.
