BLE+: Craving for Authentic Home-Style Greek Flavors in Manila?

Ble Plus-13.jpg

Just came from the Greek Islands and I was already craving for home-cooked Greek flavors in Manila. Glad that Blé+ finally opened their new Greek-inspired restaurant in BF.

It was a yummy homecoming meal with the family. Here’s our experience…

Blé+ is located in a house along El Grande Avenue, a few meters away from their hole-in-the-wall Aguirre location.

It’s bigger and can accommodate more groups, including the outdoor al fresco area.

Check out the Blé+ menu

It also has a private dining room for a more intimate, confidential setting.

The Greek colors are Blue & White, inspired by the blue ocean around the Greek islands, and the white tip of the waves.

I missed these boys. One of these days, I will bring them to Greece.

Ble Plus-8.jpg
Dip Platter (P300). Hummus,  Babaganush, Tzatziki, and Olives, served with Large Pita.

The eggplant mash is the tastiest and best among the three dips. I loved the Tzatziki in Greece, which has a thicker Greek yogurt consistency and with mayo-like creaminess. The tzatziki here is a bit more sour, with more cucumber and less Greek yogurt.

✮ Moussaka (P150). Layers of Potato, Eggplant, Wagyu Beef Sauce, and topped with Bechamel.

They do have really good Moussaka–even better than the ones we had in Greece! 🙂

✮ Garides Saganaki (P280). Shrimp in red sauce, topped with feta served with pita.

I still remember the fried cheese saganaki we had in Mykonos–this is the closest we can get here in Manila. The red sauce is sweet and absorbed by the shrimp, with feta cheese to provide a salty contrast.

✮ Mixed Grill Platter (Good for 2) (P500). Wagyu Beef Cubes, Kebab, and Chicken in Skewers served with pita and fries.

The beef kebab was the yummiest–still juicy and cooked just right with the Greek spices. The boys loved the chicken. The Wagyu beef cubes had a better bite than the kebab.

✮ Merida (Open Souvlaki Plate) (P280). Two skewers of choice (Kebab or Chicken) served on Pita with Salads.

You can also order an open Souvlaki with two sticks, which should be cheaper than ordering the mixed grill with three sticks.

It’s best to have the grilled meat with Ouzo, mixed with a bit of water and ice. 🙂

Ble Plus-15.jpg
Kalamarakia (P200). Fresh squid rings, beer battered and fried, served with skordalia.

We also liked the kalamarakia, lightly fried and served with mashed potato-like scoops of skordalia.

Overload (Good for 2) (P500). Kebab, Tomato, Onion, Parsley, Cheese, Fried Potatoes between Two Pittas.

Kebab Pita-Pizza overloaded with tomato, onions, and fries. You can have it sliced for sharing among 8 people. It’s like a Kebab Souvlaki in pizza form.

The boys with Yiannis. Congrats for the successful opening of Blé+! 🙂

Blé+ is more spacious, meaning you can finally enjoy real Greek food with your family and more friends. Food in Greece is yummier and more flavorful, but I think this is the closest you can get to the authentic flavors right here in Manila.

I would recommend the Bababaganush, Moussaka, Saganaki, and the Kebab. Order the Merida Souvlaki over the Mixed Grill for the best value. The Tzatziki isn’t as good as that in Greece, which uses thicker and creamier Greek Yogurt. The Ouzo here was a bit expensive also.

But the menu is evolving, so they should have desserts and new Greek specialty dishes in the weeks to come.

Budget about P500/head.

Kudos to Yiannis for bringing real Greek flavors to Manila!
