My Perfect Pint Combination: Lengua with Crispy Garlic x Craftpoint Liberation Pale Ale.

THE PERFECT PINT is a gastropub by the Tempongko brothers. It showcases Filipino Food by Chef Gene Gonzalez, paired with the best of Craft Beers in the Philippines.

It’s inspired by research on the ideal environment to drink a pint of beer, which concluded that:

“The maximum satisfaction is found to occur at an ambient temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius, with just over two days until you are due back in work, between three and four people with you, all in good spirits, with quiet music and widely available food and snacks.”  (via Mindlab Intelligent Insights)

The Perfect Pint envisions setting the standard in providing that experience to every customer in the Philippines.

We did a food and beer trip with the Tempongko brewmaster at Perfect Pint. Here’s our experience…

The Perfect Pint is located on the second floor of Crossroads, where Roboto San used to be, near the soon-to-open Chihuahua.

It’s a casual watering hole for passionate professionals and the surrounding communities in BGC.

At the center of the restaurant is the bar area where you can enjoy craft beers with friends.

I agree with this sign by the kitchen:  “Good People Drink Good Beer”. 🙂

The wall art is by Serious Studios. Love the mood of the resto and the vibe of the people, especially the ladies enjoying the craft beers and food.

You can order the beer flight samplers and even specify which beers you would like to try.

The Perfect Pint (29 of 64).jpg
TIP: Since the beer is preferably enjoyed at a certain temperature, you can opt to order a light refreshing beer to start with (like Perfect Pint’s house brew), then pair your main beer with wine (like a Weizen from Pivo Praha), and finally end with your one-for-the-road beer (like Pale Ale from Katipunan or Craft Point).

Thank you to Alec Norman, Master Brewer of Perfect Pint, for giving me a crash course in Craft Beers! I love his passion for craft beers and admire his knowledge of the best way to enjoy them.

The Perfect Pint (27 of 64).jpg
Truffle Fries (P200)Golden potato fries tossed in truffle oil and served with truffle mayonnaise.

You can start off with the truffle fries because the rest of the food takes some time to prepare.

The Perfect Pint (28 of 64).jpg
Katipunan Indio Pale Ale (P260/pint, P180/330 ml)A fine balance of malty sweetness, citrus notes, and a slight bitter kick to finish. An ideal gateway to craft beers.

(Craft Beer Pairing Notes: The hops in the pale ale will lessen the sulfurous notes of the truffle without enhancing the roughness.)

The Katipunan Indio Pale Ale is a bit sweet and citrusy — a good starting beer to prepare your appetite. The pairing with the truffle flavor is good; just go easy on the mayo.

The Perfect Pint (23 of 64).jpg
Heap of Fresh Bacon with House Pickles (P380)A huge pile of homemade crispy fresh bacon. Served with our house pickles.

This is like chicharon bacon, which makes a better pulutan than the fries.

The Perfect Pint (25 of 64).jpg
G-Point Pirate IPA (P200/pint, P140/330 ml). British-style India Pale Ale (IPA), fruity in character, hoppy yet refreshing.

(Craft Beer Pairing Notes: A beer fruity in character balanced with bitterness is the way to go as this beer cuts through the saltiness and delicious fattiness of the bacon very well.)

This IPA is another good starting beer for its fruity and refreshing flavor, which complements the saltiness of the bacon. I love that the bacon is extra crunchy.

The Perfect Pint (40 of 64).jpg
✮ Crispy Pig Knuckles with Mango Salad and Tom Yum Dip (P660). Oven-braised and deep fried pork knuckles. Soft on the inside but super crisp on the outside. Served with mango salad and tom yum dip.

This is an interesting twist to the classic crispy pata, with mango salad and Thai-style spicy tom yum dip. My first reaction was “Huh?”, then it became “This could work”, and finally “Hmm, yummy indeed”. A must-try!

The Perfect Pint (34 of 64).jpg
✮ Pivo Praha Weizen (P220/pint, P150/330ml)Light-bodied and refreshing, with the delightful aroma and taste of ripe banana, with a touch of vanilla, sweet malted wheat.

(Craft Beer Pairing Notes: Pivo Weizen matches excellently with sweet and spicy food, such as Thai cuisine.)

The light, sweet, slightly bitter Pivo Praha pairs very well with the tom yum and the pork knuckles.

The Perfect Pint (38 of 64).jpg
Stinky 5 Cheese Pizza (P560). A Perfect Pint creation! 5 kinds of cheese full of aroma and flavor!

(Craft Beer Pairing Notes: The strong flavors from the 5 cheeses provide a great contrast to the fruity and refreshing taste of the Pivo Weizen.)

We ordered the pizza for the kids (they love the name). It’s not stinky at all. The crust is just OK.

The Perfect Pint (55 of 64).jpg
Pastel Moderna (P380). Lengua, sausage, and chicken filling tossed in our creamy gravy sauce and topped with a bubbly golden crust. (Served with a side salad and green pea mash).

The pastel is good to share. It has a generous meat filling, saucy gravy, and a crusty pie topping.

The Perfect Pint (46 of 64).jpg
Pivo Praha Weizen (P220/pint, P150/330ml)Light-bodied and refreshing, with the delightful aroma and taste of ripe banana, with a touch of vanilla, sweet malted wheat.

(Craft Beer Pairing Notes: Lengua, sausage, and chicken filling tossed in our creamy gravy blends excellently with the tropical fruit flavor of the Pivo Weizen.)

The Pivo Praha Weizen is a good, non-overpowering, all-around beer to pair with Filipino dishes that are meaty and saucy.

The Perfect Pint (47 of 64).jpg
✮ Lengua with Crispy Garlic (P360). Soft and creamy lengua sauteed in our house garlic sauce.

My favorite is Perfect Pint’s Lengua, which is not on the original beer pairing menu. It’s served in chunks like salpicao, with a thick brown sauce that is quite addicting.

The Perfect Pint (41 of 64).jpg
✮ Craftpoint Liberation Pale Ale (P280/pint, P220/330 ml). Bold and flavorful Belgian Pale Ale bursting with citrus and toffee flavors balanced out with a subtle spiciness.

My favorite! The combination of flavors makes for an exciting drinking experience. It’s the perfect match for the lengua.

The Perfect Pint (57 of 64).jpg
Mango Caramel Shake (P120).

They also have shakes for the kids to ensure that the place appeals to families as well.

The Perfect Pint (59 of 64).jpg
✮ Freshly Baked Caramel Brownie Smores with Rhum Raisin Ice Cream (P290). Rich and fudgy chocolate brownies overloaded with nuts, chocolate, and marshmallows topped with our Rhum Raisin Ice Cream. Baked to order.

I love restaurants that have their own signature dessert to cap a satisfying meal. How can one say no to this delectable treat topped with a sugar mesh and ice cream?

The Perfect Pint (58 of 64).jpg
Pivo Praha Dark Lager (P220/pint, P150/330ml). Pure malt beer with a unique taste of hops, caramel, and roasted malt.

(Craft Beer Pairing Notes: Dark chocolate ale, dunkel, or stout balances the rich chocolate flavor of the caramel brownie.)

The pairing of chocolate and dark lager is an awesome way to end any Perfect Pint meal.

I love THE PERFECT PINT‘s concept of offering the best Craft Beers paired with the best of Filipino Food by well-respected Chef Gene Gonzalez.

It’s best to go with the 3-Course Food with Beer Pairing (budget P500-750/head). Here are my suggestions:
