OSAKA OHSHO Philippines: How Does the World’s #1 Gyoza Taste Like? @SMMegaMall

Featured as MEGA FASHION HALL: 10 BEST New Restaurants @SMMegaMall in 2014!

OSAKA OHSHO-47.jpg

OSAKA OHSHO is a Japanese chain established in 1969. They have branches in Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Korea and now in the Philippines, courtesy of the Relish-Group, known for bringing in the Wee Nam Kee franchise to Manila.

I like how the Manila restaurant scene is shifting towards specializing. Most restaurants now are known for that one dish or a certain specialty cuisine.

So how does the #1 Gyoza in the World taste like?  Here’s our Osaka Ohsho experience…

Osaka Ohsho is located at the center of the 3rd Floor of the new SM Mega Fashion Hall.

It’s a modern-casual place, with Japanese-inspired pattern highlights.

I like the mesmerizing wall pattern and the booth tables.

OSAKA OHSHO MENU:

The menu revolves around the gyoza sets but they also offer other Japanese specialties.

OSAKA OHSHO-38.jpg
Best to start off with a cold, refreshing beer while you wait.

✮ Osaka Ohsho Salad (Half Order P195).

The salad is lively, with sweetness from the mango, and crunch from the walnuts.

✮ Fuwatoro Tenshin Han Gyoza Set (P650). Each set comes with a serving of Fuwatoro Tenshin Han, two servings of miso soup, and two servings of fruit.

Best to order the gyoza sets. We ordered the Fuwatoro set, which is good for 2, and comes with the signature Koshihikari rice enveloped with omelette and topped with gravy.

The gyoza is very meaty and juicy. It is seared on one end with a very soft dimsum skin on the other. It’s good and you can easily finish 6 gyoza to satisfy your cravings.

The wrapper is sturdy and does not break easily even when dipped in the sauce. They have three sauces — original gyoza soy sauce, the miso sauce, and the chili.

My favorite sauce is combining the miso with the chili sauce (which wasn’t too spicy, at least for us).

OSAKA OHSHO-48.jpg
Big grain Japanese rice with scrambled egg and gravy. Something different but just OK.

Black Vinegar Chicken (P350+10% service charge).

We ordered another specialty — chicken soaked in Black Vinegar. This one is very tasty but needs some getting used to because of the sour taste of the vinegar (na parang sira ang lasa).

My brother Rommel liked it, and it’s big enough to share between two.

Loved my Osaka Ohsho dinner date with my brother. 🙂

OSAKA OHSHO is highly recommended for foodies looking for a good Japanese gyoza meal and for those who are looking for a break from the ramen and tonkatsu craze.

I recommend ordering the gyoza sets, specifically the  Fuwatoro Tenshin Han Gyoza Set. Also order the Osaka Ohsho Salad to complete the meal. It’s best to eat with a group so that you can try their other specialties. Budget is about P500/head.

Be sure to make reservations if you’re planning to eat during the peak lunch and dinner hours.

  1. There’s a comment here a few days ago saying something in the line of “horrible service and the gyoza was not even hot”. Where is it now?
