GLORIA MARIS Restaurant, specifically the one in Greenhills, is our all-time favorite go-to place for authentic Cantonese food in Manila since 1995. My wife’s family likes holding their special celebrations here, and I love the yummy consistency of their food every single time.

Last year, Gloria Maris moved to a new location with an impressive fine dining ambiance and an introduction of modern Cantonese cuisine to take the dining experience to a whole different level.

Overall, I love the home-grown Cantonese yumminess of Gloria Maris and how it has been consistent with the same Hong Kong chefs over the years. I love the new Gloria Maris ambiance and the modern Cantonese dining menu.

We usually eat lauriat-style everytime there’s a family celebration, and Gloria Maris still tops the list of Chinese Restaurants we have tried over the years in the metro.

Make sure to reserve one of the VIP rooms, to assemble your own lauriat menu, and to select the dishes with the cool presentation.

They are open all year round — even on Christmas Day and Holy Week — but don’t forget to make reservations because they get FULL, especially during peak special occasions.

PINK PANDA is a Southeast Asian Diner created by Erwan Heussaff and the Hatch 22 group, featuring Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Chinese, and Filipino comfort food.

This is my favorite among all the Erwan Heussaff restaurants. It offers nice Asian food execution at a good price.

KIMUKATSU is a Japanese Katsu franchise specializing in a 25-layered select pork cutlet Mille-feuille-style Tonkatsu. Manila is the 5th international restaurant after a branch in Hawaii, 2 branches in LA, California, and one in Seoul, South Korea. In Japan, Kimukatsu has 19 branches.

For myself, meron din akong New Year’s resolution and that is to work out or exercise at least 10 minutes every single day. So tama yung narinig niyo, it’s 10 minutes of exercise every single day so good luck to me, I hope I keep my promise, my resolution and I will also be posting a blog about this so watch out for that.

Now, I am so excited to present our very first interviewee for 2014. He is one of the most popular bloggers in the Philippines right now. He is a food and travel blogger. His blog is called and it receives about 1 million hits a month. Yes, imagine 1 million hits! I hope our website will also hit 1 million. Anyway, his advocacy is to promote Philippine tourism by sharing the food and travel secrets in the Philippines. And also to inspire Filipinos that living in the Philippines is truly awesome. So makabayan talaga tong ating guest. He is also recognized by Go Negosyo as an inspiring young Filipino entrepreneur last 2010. He is also known for being the co – founder of successful weekend markets na I’m sure alam na alam niyo yung Mercato Centrale, Mezza Norte, Cucina Andare, Cucina Centrale, and Fiesta Bahia and a lot more. KING CHEF Binondo: The Best Chinese Restaurant in @LuckyChinatown!

KING CHEF is a Cantonese Kitchen owned by Michael Chan-Ang and Marites Apiado-Ang, best known for their herbal soup and yummy Cantonese comfort food.

They started with their flagship branch along Banawe Street and gradually branched out to be one of the best restaurants in Lucky Chinatown, Binondo.

The name is inspired by a chef’s ultimate goal in the olden times of pleasing the King’s palate. Nowadays, the King is the Foodie who patronizes the restaurant, but the chef’s goal of preparing a feast to please the palate remains the same. 🙂

WICKED The Musical finally opened last night at the CCP Main Theatre to kickoff Wicked Mania in Manila! It’s the world-class Broadway musical that Filipinos have been raving about and campaigning to bring to the Philippines. 

“Wicked” is the untold story of Glinda, the Good Witch of the South and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. It’s like a prequel to the story of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. It also shows the origins of the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion.

I love the show’s “Green For Good” motto and why we shouldn’t believe in hearsay and judge other people based purely on rumors. 

After celebrating 10 years on Broadway last October 30, 2013, Wicked is finally in Manila!

SPEAK EASY MAKATI: Comfort Food Favorites by Chef Mike Santos :)

SPEAK EASY is a bar and bistro at the ground floor of Alphaland’s City Club building in Makati. Its name is inspired by the term for an illicit liquor store during the Prohibition Era in the US. Technically it’s not hidden, but only a few have ventured into this part of Makati near the Zuellig loop.

I like bars that really serve good comfort food. When I heard Chef Mike Santos (who trained under Chef Cyrille Soenen in Brasserie Cicou) was the Head Chef/Part-owner at Speak Easy Makati, we decided to check it out…

BLACK SHEEP is a Single Malt Whisky Bar and Modern Gastronomy Restaurant by Chef Jordy Navarra, who formely worked at Bo Innovation Hong Kong.  

It is co-owned by Chef Jordy together with Jed Tiu Lim, formerly of Attica, Raphael Cruz, son of the late Larry Cruz, and Kato Chua of Super Sale Organizer fame.

They serve a 4-course set menu designed by Chef Jordy, which ranges from P1,900/head to P4,900/head on special occasions (Note: they don’t have an a la carte menu). Their selling point is a unique Single Malt Whisky Dinner Pairing experience — the first of its kind in Manila! 🙂
