CAFÉ SHIBUYA is a cafe specializing in Savory and Buttered Toasts and Ghirardelli Chocolate Drinks. Their flagship store is at the U.P. Town Center and its name is based on the Shibuya way of preparing the French Toast.

The buttered toast craze has already captured the hearts of foodies around South East Asia, but it has yet to really take off here in Manila. Heads or Tails tried offering Buttered Toast with Kaya via a stall in MOA, but their thin toast and unexciting toppings didn’t make them a blockbuster hit. Just recently, Once Upon A Milkshake also started offering their own Shibuya Toast.

✮ SHIBUYA BENEDICT (P255). Our take on the revered brunch fare. Lavished with farmer’s ham, deep-fried poached egg, shitake mushrooms, and our homemade Japanese Mayo cream sauce. 

The toast is buttered all around, baked to a crisp on the outside but still super pillowy soft on the inside. Love the combination of the poached egg, mushroom, toast, and Japanese mayo, but the farmer’s ham was a bit out of place. This would have been better if they replaced it with bacon. 🙂

MENTAIKO (P265- single serving)Our Chef’s favorite pasta creation. This Japanese-Italian fusion pairs cod roe with olive oil, resulting in a uniquely tasty affair.

They also have Japanese-inspired pasta, like this simple cod roe with olive oil pasta topped with shredded seaweeds. The bits of bacon were a bit too fatty though.

✮ ORIGINAL SHIBUYA HONEY TOAST (Baby – P145). Our Signature toast served with honey syrup and vanilla ice cream. 

This is the best —  just simple buttered toast with vanilla ice cream on top! 🙂

You can sweeten it with honey based on your preference. The honey is a bit diluted so it doesn’t overpower the toast.

The toast is cut into cubes inside. It’s hard to resist this sweet treat after the first bite.

For a more delectable treat, order the dessert toast with Nutella.

You can add some sliced almonds to counter the sweet taste and add a nutty texture.

✮ NUTELLA DESSERT TOAST (P245 – Regular). Nutella with sliced almonds. This choco-nutty concoction needs no introduction. Served with vanilla ice cream. 

It’s super yummy but a bit too indulgent for me. 🙂

We love CAFÉ SHIBUYA‘s happy ambiance, honey buttered toast, and Ghirardelli Chocolate drinks. It’s a great breakfast place to try when you’re in the Katipunan area. It’s also a good dessert option after eating at one of the restaurants in the U.P. Town Center.

Budget is about P400 for a toast and chocolate drink.
