URBN BAR & KITCHEN: The Secret Yummy Dinner Food of @URBN_BGC

URBN Bar & Kitchen-24.jpg

Starting at 12mn, URBN BAR gets packed with party people from all over the metro. It’s a popular events place for launching products and holding company events because of its spacious interiors and industrial-looking ambiance.

But one of the things I love about URBN is the contemporary comfort food they serve during dinner by Chef Benjo Tuason of Relik fame.

Here’s our latest URBN experience…

SARBAY FEST is the biggest beach party in Mindanao. Since 2006, it has been held around the third weekend of May in Gumasa Beach, Glan, Sarangani to celebrate the area’s beauty and to conserve Sarangani Bay. It is one of the best beach parties to culminate the summer season in the Philippines.

Here’s a photo essay of my SarBay Fest 2013 experience:

SABOTEN Philippines: The Original Tonkatsu Flavor Now in Manila!

Saboten-18.jpg
SABOTEN is the original and largest Tonkatsu chain from Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. It has been serving its famous tonkatsu since 1966 and has branches in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Canada, Thailand, and now in the Philippines. 🙂  The restaurant’s name means “cactus”,  inspired by the plant’s vitality and persistence despite harsh conditions.

Although the SABOTEN launch was pre-empted by YABU in Manila, we love how they offer different ways people can enjoy katsu and the unlimited-everything experience. 🙂

Here’s a rundown of our visit to Saboten Philippines…

CHEF BAB’S SISIG: “A lot of restaurants serve sisig but only Chef Bab of @MercatoCentrale can offer eight variants at one time!”

Text by Nikka Sarthou and Photos by Michael Chua

The SISIG. A Filipino favorite that is traditionally made with pig’s ears and served on a sizzling plate. This humble dish is said to originate from Pampanga but is now known outside the country, thanks to the feature of renowned chef and television host, Anthony Bourdain, who raved about it in his show No Reservations.

A lot of restaurants and bars serve sisig but only Chef Bab of Mercato Centrale can offer eight variants at one time. Even during the former Distrito Market, he has been dishing up this specialty, but now, he is offering foodies a chance to customize their sisig. Want it hot? Request for more chili. Want it as a meal? Order it with rice! Want a vegetarian version? Go for fish or tofu sisig. All orders are cooked on the spot, too, ensuring its freshness and deliciousness.

MAPLE: All Day Breakfast @ San Antonio Plaza, Forbes Park Makati

    Maple-31.jpg
MAPLE is the high-end All-Day Breakfast restaurant by the Pancake House group with its flagship store in San Antonio Plaza.

We like Pancake House, and it’s our comfort breakfast food with our boys. But recently we noticed the taste is getting too commercialized, the serving of the pasta is getting smaller, and the flavors are a bit diluted.

I’m glad that they decided to create a Breakfast restaurant for the foodies who demand a better breakfast experience all day.

Here’s our breakfast date experience at MAPLE:

    PHAT PHO: A Vietnamese Kitchen @TheAbacaGroup @PhatPhoCebu

    Phat Pho-3.jpg
P.H.A.T. PHO (short for Pretty Hot and Tempting Pho?) is the Vietnamese Resto created by Jason Hyatt of The Abaca Group in Cebu.  There’s not a lot of Vietnamese flavors in Cebu, and Abaca Group’s Vietnamese concept is interesting with Vietnamese Chef Ahn Sy Hoang or Chef Bruce.

In contrast to the other Abaca restos, Phat Pho is quaint (with a capacity of about less than 30pax) but still hip. During peak lunch and dinner time you have to sit shoulder-to-shoulder giving up a bit of privacy just to get a taste of the latest Vietnamese cuisine to invade Cebu.

SM AURA: Premier Shopping & Foodie Supermarket Haven + Sky Park @SMAuraPremier Taguig! (First Impressions)

UPDATE 1/12/13: SM AURA EATS: 10 Most Awesome Restaurants @SMAuraPremier to Kick Off Your SM Aura Food Trip this 2014!

    SM Aura Facade-3.jpg
SM AURA PREMIER is the high-end shopping mall of Henry Sy’s SM Group, located in the Bonifacio Civic Center in Taguig. Some call it the SM Mothership because of its unique design and because it’s the flagship pet project of Ms. Tessie Cozon (daughter of Henry Sy) herself.

With its Grand Opening today, SM Aura goes into direct competition with Ayala’s Market! Market! and Bonifacio High Street combined. The rivalry is interesting to see, reminiscent of the stiff competition between Globe and Smart. In the end, we the consumers benefit from the rivalry with new and exciting choices in food, stores, and new experiences.

Here are our first impressions of SM AURA — what we think SM did well, what SM can further improve on in the mall and the supermarket, and the places you should try soon…
