CALDERON: Raphael’s Spanish Birthday Dinner

The Little Baguio, San Juan area is starting to feel like Malate and becoming a melting pot of different European and Asian cuisines.

Monchet and Ellen Carballo of Sabor de Espana fame in Salcedo recently opened CALDERON, a Spanish Kitchen and Tapas Bar, together with their partners (including my foodie friend Marmi Perez who is known for her heirloom recipe of Iberian Chicken, and Chef Rafa Ysip who runs the kitchen).

DEK A 2.0: Homey Resto, Authentic Thai Food, Khantoke and Thai Wall Art

The lovely Martthida Ritthinarong (simply known as Feb), owner of Dek A, finally responded to the customers’ clamor for bigger space and better ambiance, but still serving authentic, home-cooked Thai food. Dek A opened its second branch as a cozy resto hidden somewhere in Makati, near Rockwell.

It’s a good place to hang out with friends over good, unpretentious Thai food and Singha beer. 🙂

LOLA CAFE: A Hidden Homey Cafe along Sct. Lozano

LŌLA CAFE is a hidden ancestral-house-converted-resto along Sct. Lozano, Quezon City, serving home-cooked food plus fruit-based cocktail drinks and designed as a homey hangout place. 

The resto is owned by Howard and partners, new restaurateurs, who are passionate about eating and drinking. They named it after the mother of the Sanvictores family – Lōla (pronounced as Loe-La), who built the house in the post-WWII era.

EARLY BIRD Breakfast Club is an all-day breakfast restaurant that embraces the belief that by inspiring people to have beautiful breakfast, one can be happier everyday

The resto even goes to the extent of opening 24 hours on Friday and Saturday to provide recovery food after a good night out (especially for the people coming from URBN BAR).
