2,000th Blog Post: Discover NORTHERN and SOUTHERN EATS!

2012 1022 NOLI Cover2012 1022 SOLI Cover

I am very excited to finally share with you these restaurants that we have discovered and grown to love. These are the restaurants that can serve as a perfect backdrop to special family gatherings, a romantic date with your special someone or the perfect bonding moment with your friends.

There are three (3) criteria that we followed in coming up with this inaugural list of Northern and Southern Eats’ restaurants in Manila:

1.It is not commercialized.
There is magic in knowing that what you are enjoying is not mainstream. These restaurants
are typically not based in the hotel or in the mall.
It is not a local chain or foreign franchise that
expanded around Manila. On certain occasions
though, we give in and include the original stores
of local restaurants that somehow evolve to be
chains as long as they still haven’t lost the magic of
what made them stick.

ORANG UTANS @ TANJUNG PUTING, KALIMANTAN, BORNEO: Largest Population of Wild Orangutans (Day 1)

Orangutan World, Tanjung Puting Borneo Adventure-257.jpg
My first encounter with an orangutan was when we saw a “domesticated” one named Jenny in Ark of Avilon Zoo in Manila. It was nice to see her because she seems  to be playfully innocent and wants to interact with people.

But after visiting the Tanjung Puting National Park in Kalimantan Province of  Indonesia in the island of Borneo, I learned that these animals are born to be wild. We need to protect them from becoming extinct because of the destruction of their natural habitat, and from poachers who sell them to zoos around the world.

Here’s our awesome experience in Tanjung Puting National Park which has the largest wild population of Orangutans in the World:

I’m glad that Dr. Joven Cuanang allowed his Greek-Ilocos inspired house named METEORA to be rented privately on a by reservation basis. (He also owns Sitio Remedios in Currimao, and Pinto Art Gallery in Antipolo.)

We celebrated Wifey’s birthday here on a Monday night. Here’s our METEORA experience:
