CHOCOLATE de Batirol is a Filipino Cafe specializing in hot, thick, bittersweet tsokolate drink made from local cacao beans.
This is a popular merienda hangout when you are in Camp John Hay, Baguio City.

Menu: Chocolate de Batirol and drinks | Almusal, Platted Meals, Merienda, Tanghalian/Hapunan
I love its current location in the Igorot Park area near Gate 2 of Camp John Hay (near Baguio Country Club). It is like a garden shack at the entrance of a forest.
The chocolate drink is made traditionally using a metal pot where you use a wooden rod aka “batirol” that you rotate by hand to mix and make it deliciously thick.
We tried out the different versions of the chocolate with the boys. Here’s the verdict…
Choco-late de Batirol: Baguio Blend with Strawberry (P90), ★ Traditional Blend (P80), and ★ Choco Mallows (P95)
We did not like the taste of strawberry syrup with the chocolate. The bitterness of the choco is a bit off with the sweetness of the strawberry.
The Choco Mallows were a hit with the kids, but we just preferred the traditional chocolate.
The suman is a a moist sticky rice cake topped with coconut and brown sugar. This is a popular merienda in the provinces and I wonder if this is the Baguio version of the suman.
★ Turon de Langka (3pcs – P85).
We love the turon with a crispy wrapper with just the right proportion of melted brown sugar, flavorful banana and strips of langka (jackfruit).
Don’t miss to visit Chocolate de Batirol and have merienda when you visit Camp John Hay.

Hi Anton, how are you? Thanks for posting this article. Parang namasyal ako nito. This is a native way of preparing foods and dishes there. I like to have a dish that is prepared in a native way rather than by commercial method. I am sure that the chocolates there are 100% pure and no additives and preservatives.
nice, ill visit this place next week. tnx sir anton 🙂
