MavenSecrets5Logo

Dear OAP Friends,

I was convinced by the recent successful batch of Maven Secrets 4.0 to continue to offer this one-of-a-kind mentoring and coaching program in Manila. I was touched when they created this farewell graduation video (by the videocamproject) after completing the 90-day program.

Maven Secrets 5.0 is my private mentoring, coaching and education program that teaches aspiring internet entrepreneurs and professional bloggers the secrets of Our Awesome Planet. I will personally guide each student with a combination of one-on-one sessions, weekly group coaching and mastermind sessions in AIM over the period of 90 days.

  • A new module focusing on Online Reputation Management, especially on how to defend your brand against a Black Hat PR campaign from the dark side of media.
  • Remote/online students are now accepted because I’m designing the program for 100% online training. If successful, this will be the last batch of face-to-face coaching format.
  • I’ve included a bonus module on the Secrets of Facebook Marketing.
  • I’ve recognized that this program is not for everyone, so you have to apply before you get accepted in the program.

Va Bene Pasta Deli @ Petron – Best Authentic Italian Pasta Place in Makati!

Update Sept 2014: Check out the 2nd branch VA BENE Pasta Deli by Chef Massimo Veronesi @ BGC Cinemas!

We’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about this Italian restaurant. According to Makati foodies, the  “Best Italian Restaurant” in the area is hidden inside a Petron Gas Station. We wanted to eat there after hearing mass on a Sunday, but the restaurant was closed.

Finally, we were able to go on a packed weekday dinner night. Indeed, it’s the BEST authentic Italian Pasta place in Makati. And the secret lies in the hands of the ex-Mi Piace Italian chef and his Filipina wife, the tandem behind this gasoline station restaurant.

IMC (International Master Chef) Kavino Lau

Chef Lau showing the photo where he won a gold medal in the International Master Chef competition
.

Rumor has it that an International Master Chef (IMC) working for the Chinese restaurant in Heritage Hotel started his own Chinese resto in Jupiter Place (replacing Malacca). It even got the approval of foodies with discriminating taste, who love Chinese cuisine.

We satisfied our curiosity last night. Now I understand why the foodies are raving about it…

Miss B’s Tuckshop – A French American Resto Without the Frills

A Singaporean trained in Daniel Boulud’s Bistro Moderne in New York…
A Filipina Private Chef / Caterer formerly based in Singapore…
A Filipina-African as a Sous Chef formerly based in Miami…

They all went back to Manila and decided to give life to a refreshing little place called Miss B’s Tuckshop. (We’re not used to the word tuckshop, which is actually a British term for a small food shop.) Here, they aim to refresh American comfort food using French cooking techniques without the frills.

This original concept in the Manila Resto scene is something that foodies would definitely rave about… Check it out!

8 Things You Should Know about Mercato Centrale & Midnight Mercato

Top 8 Things You Should Know about Mercato Centrale & Midnight Mercato:

1. We are moving up to a new location @ the corner of 8th and 34th!
The new location is just walking distance from the Starbucks drive-thru, beside MC Home Depot and across Lexus.

2. It is a weekly market and not just a seasonal market. Here are the operating hours:

Friday 10pm to Saturday 3am:   Midnight Mercato: Night Food Market
Saturday  7am to 2pm: Mercato Centrale: Food & Organic Market
Saturday 4pm to 6pm: The Kerygma Feasts @ BGC! (Soon)
Saturday 10pm to Sunday 3am:  Midnight Mercato: Night Food Market
Sunday  7am to 2pm: Mercato Centrale: Food & Organic Market

NOTE: Most of the Midnight Mercato vendors are different from the Mercato Centrale vendors with a few overlaps. Midnight Mercato is more of “comfort midnight snack food” while Mercato Centrale would have the best of the best food vendors. We encourage budding food entrepreneurs. You’ll see a few starting food suppliers in both markets.

Breakups and Breakdowns: A Review

It’s refreshing to see an all-original musical (ala NYC’s Broadway productions) written by Joel Trinidad and music by Rony Fortich. The story is a funny take on  PUA (Pick up Artist) Games, looking for the (impossible) “Perfect” one and breaking up (eventually breaking down). Read the plot here.

It’s a must-watch show for theater lovers since this is an obra maestra of Joel Trinidad!

Hyphy’s SanFo-Philippine Cuisine by Chef Bruce Lim

SF Steak Sandwich @ Hyphy’s

After the success of Chef’s Table Restaurant, Chef Bruce Lim has opened a Robinsons Galleria Mall Veranda Restaurant called Hyphy’s. It is a San Francisco-inspired restaurant that serves the comfort food that Chef Bruce grew up with in SanFo.

It is a bit intimidating for a mall restaurant and seems a bit out of place. It would have been more appropriate to locate it in Mall of Asia’s San Miguel by the Bay. The food is Fil-Am fusion, which is quite unique but maybe a bit hard to relate to for most Filipinos (especially for those who have not been to the SanFo area).

I don’t usually like mall restaurants, but this is something worth checking out when you are in the area of Robinsons Galleria Veranda.
