My Marathon Story

My Learnings from the 21k Condura Run

This was my first 21k for this year and the third in the last 4 months. When I started joining half marathons, I would usually finish as one of the last runners. My first ever 21k  was in June 2007 at 3 hours and 19 minutes.

For the Condura Run, I was aiming to finish below 3 hours, which I was able to accomplish (coming in at 2 hours and 56 minutes). This is my personal best ever since I started running. I’m going back to running this year because I want to join my second full 42k Marathon after my first one in in 2007 (see: I am a Marathoner! I lived to tell about it…)

The Condura Run’s the first big run for 2010, and it was awesome because we were able to run on the Skyway from the Buendia Ramp all the way to the Villamor Interchange. (Only if you run the 21k.) Also, the Condura Run had adequate water stations, cheering squads throughout the route with a morning rah-rah, and most importantly, it started on time. 🙂 The only glitch was that they ran out of 21k medals — I’m not sure why.

Maitre Chocolatier Boutique Cafe vs. Max Brenner Chocolate Bar

We are starting to see interesting dessert places like Chocolate Cafes/Bars around Makati. In the battle of the best Chocolate Bar/Cafe in town, who do you think will win between Maitre Chocolatier Boutique Cafe vs. Max Brenner Chocolate Bar?

Maitre Chocolatier Boutique Cafe

The Maitre Chocolatier Boutique Cafe is from the importers of premium European chocolates, which include Toblerone, Lindt, Ferrero Rocher and Ritter Sports Chocolate. The place at night is softly lit, romantic and conducive to conversations. They did a good job with the acoustics of the place so that you are not able to eavesdrop on the next table.

and the Real Leaf Contest Winner is…

Our Awesome Planet’s “Shoot a Real Leaf, Win a Nano!” Winner!

Title: Carwash Babe. THE SLAVES!
what a bossy little girl – she’s slaving the two little boys, they are “timawa” —- they will do anything for Real Leaf Green leaf! by: MAREN S. BANA-AG

Thanks to all those who joined the Real Leaf Contest! It was fun just looking at and reading the story behind each of the photos.

I usually judge the photo contests in OAP based on three things:
1. Visual Appeal — the picture itself should tell a story and should be appealing
2. Shares the OAP advocacy — the picture showcases the awesome beauty of our natural wonders and/or the kids/family.
3. Compliance with Mechanics — the picture should be submitted on time and with the right information.

The Carwash Babe is so cute even without the thought bubble. I know it is a bit hard to choreograph one kid — what more three kids in this photo.

RENT Manila 2010 Review

UPDATE: [RENT The Musical in Manila 2011 Contest] How Did you Measure Your Life in 2010?

Related Blog Post: Manila’s Essential Guide to Rent The Musical

It was a good show last night with awesome performances from Carla Guevara-Laforteza as Maureen and newcomer Job Bautista as Angel Dumott Schunard. Maureen’s Over the Moon performance was very memorable, especially when she encouraged the crowd to MOO with her (with her facial expression resembling that of a person suffering from loose bowel movement). Angel’s performance was “orgasmic” and he assumed the role like a theater veteran. His chemistry with OJ Mariano as Tom Collins was an instant hit with the audience because it was very believable.

The ensemble cast did a great job as well. Our favorite was Johann Dela Fuente’s “Honest Living” scene. We also liked Raul Montesa, Gary Junsay and Mark Tayag’s various mini-skits throughout the play. Well done, guys!

8 Ideas for a Chinese Valentine’s Day in 2010!

This coming Valentine’s Day is quite special because the Chinese New Year celebration coincides with it and it also falls on a weekend. There are a lot of festivals, musical shows and events that will happen on this date. Check out the Top 8 Ideas for a “Rare” Valentine’s Day in 2010:

1. Latest Romantic Restaurants

We always make it a point to celebrate special occasions like Valentine’s Day in a new restaurant. This year, you can check out Marcia Adams’ Tuscany (the newest garden restaurant in Tagaytay) and Tippi Tambunting’s Masseto (an elegant restaurant in the heart of Salcedo Village). Along Maginhawa Foodie street in U.P. Village, you can try Van Gogh is Bipolar. In Marikina, a private dining studio recently opened called Qasa 61. In Makati, the chocolate cafe Maitre Chocolatier Boutique Cafe can be your dessert date place. For buffets, now is the best time to indulge in Mandarin Oriental’s Paseo Uno buffet as it features foie gras in its newest Luxury Buffet every Friday and Saturday evening. If you like steaks, try the latest steak house in Legaspi Village called Gustavus.
