#Restaurants, Bonifacio Global City

101 by ADF + Enderun

Finally, Restaurant 101 is now open in the Enderun McKinley Campus. I am a fan of the “restaurant lab” concept of Enderun and I’ve blogged about it before with regard to their Ortigas campus (Restaurant 101 @ Enderun and Falling In Love With Restaurant 101…). It is now branded as “101 by ADF (Alain Ducasse formation) + Enderun”. Alain Ducasse’s claim to fame is that he was the first chef to own restaurants carrying three Michelin Stars in three cities.

Well, we loved it and we hated it. We didn’t mind the awkward service from the first-year students who took our orders and served us throughout the entire meal with shaking hands. We hated the lousy food served to us — cold, hard bread, ho-hum starters, and tired pasta. We loved the Angus Rib, which saved the entire meal for us and the lady who took care of Aidan by giving him “kiddie” stuff and cupcakes in the end.

The ambiance is great, but the chefs in the kitchen need to give extra love and care to the food served. Unfortunately, Chef See was not in the kitchen that night (which probably explains the kind of food that we had). Then again, eat at your own risk since the kids seem to treat this more as a “practice lab” instead of a restaurant that would take fine dining to Michelin Star-level in Manila.

Bob’s — Welcome to Manila!

Bob’s, Bacolod’s favorite restaurant, is now in Manila. It is a restaurant institution — similar to Aristocrat here in Manila — started by Dr. Homero Sicangco in 1965 in Bacolod. It is popular for its American menu: BBQ, Baby Back Ribs and Cheeseburger. The restaurant in Magallanes is now managed by the 3rd generation. They were able to bring the authentic taste of Bob’s in Bacolod to Manila (but I find it overpriced).

If you are looking for a place to celebrate Masskara festival in Manila, this is the right place to go.

Your Streetfood DiscOVIry…

DiscOVIries Photo Contest WEEK 2
(Contest Duration: 12.00am October 12, Monday to 11.59pm October 18, Sunday – 11.59pm)

We stayed overnight for one more day in the El Nido town with George Tapan and Tommy Schultz. We were walking around the town and George shared with us this street food discovery called Bandi or Cashew Brittle. It sells for P8 per piece in your favorite Sari Sari Store around the town. The sweetness of the sugar coating is neutralized by the cashew nuts so you can eat a lot without getting tired of the taste. It is easy to break apart and the cashew is a bit chewy and soft. This is a perfect merienda, dessert or pasalubong when you are in El Nido, Palawan.

The Best Street Food DiscOVIry wins P2,000 Worth of Ayala eGC’s!
(and a chance to win a brand new Nokia Phone)

and the winner for the Best Foodie Discovery for Week 1 is…

The Most Romantic Wedding I’ve Ever Witnessed

I just came back from El Nido, Palawan, where I was George Tapan’s assistant for the El Nido Photography Festival in Miniloc Resort. On Saturday night, we visited Lagen island and decided to swim in the pool of the Lagen Resort while waiting for sunset. We were having some peanuts and beer with George and the lovely Dr. Vanessa at the bar, when we saw a couple dressed in wedding attire, walking along the swimming pool. We learned that they were on their way to their private wedding on the sandbar behind Lagen Island. It was just the two of them — no photographers, no camera, no witnesses — just the bride and groom. George made some calls and asked permission from the couple to shoot their wedding, and he became their official photographer. 🙂

It was the most romantic wedding I’ve ever witnessed, and I would like to share the experience with you…

Cafe Juanita at the Fort

Foodies will rejoice that our favorite Filipino Restaurant is now at the Fort. Cafe Juanita at the Fort is the official “extension” of the original Cafe Juanita in Pasig. It still has its kitschy ambiance (more things are being added), signature Filipino warm service and Filipino food that we can showcase to Tourists, Foreigners, and Balikbayans. As an added charm, it is managed by one of the most lovely restaurant managers in town — Verna Chiongbian, who will make sure that you’ll have an awesome experience.

For me, Cafe Juanita at the Fort is the best Filipino Restaurant in town. (What’s your favorite Filipino restaurant?)
