8 Cool Things That Happened To Me Lately…

I just wanted to share a few awesome things to celebrate…

1. Our Awesome Planet in IMMAP!

It was awesome to present the story of OAP in the 3rd Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP). IMMAP is the biggest conference attended by the digital marketing industry in the country. I shared the story of how I grew OAP from scratch to becoming one of the most popular food and travel blogs in the country with as high as 15,000 hits per day. I presented together with Mark Lacsay of Sonic Logo Multimedia of Sound Drip, and Rianna Roces Trinidad of Proud Mama makers of Funky Feet on how Digital Delivers for Small and Medium Enterprises.

La Cuisine Francaise

La Cuisine Francaise by Michele d’ Orival first got its cult foodie following when it opened in the Salcedo Saturday Market. Also, every time it joined foodie events like Pink Kitchen, foodies raved about the homemade French cuisine. Finally, its French Deli/Restaurant was set up in Salcedo Village, directly across Apartment 1B. It is refreshing to see good and reliable French food available everyday (even on Sunday) and as late as 12mn for dine in or take out in the heart of Makati.

Sonia’s Cakes & Bakes

For 20+ years, Sonia’s Cakes & Bakes has provided quality cakes at a very good price. Despite how long the stall has been operating, a lot of people still consider this a secret place to buy yummy cakes for special occasions (without being ashamed of how much they cost). Perhaps the reason why only a few foodies know about this cake institution is because the only remaining outlet is hidden inside Cherry Foodarama.

Fifteen Twenty One (1521) Restaurant

Bonggang-Bonggang Binagoongan (P245 +sc). Super crunchy pork with local shrimp paste and strips of “manibalang” mango.

1521’s the year the Philippines was discovered by Spain and the year of heroism of Lapu Lapu, who was the first Filipino to defend our country against the colonizers. 1521, the restaurant, is a tribute to the heirloom recipes of different Filipino families by showcasing them for people to enjoy.

The names of the food are very witty, poetic and well thought out. The names are yummy by themselves and rooted in very Filipino insights like “Bulalost for Words“, “Bonggang-bonggang Binagoongan“, “Satay kang Bata Ka!”, etc.  Some of them deliver on the expectation; others, I think, become too complicated and creative just for the sake of coming up with a fusion type of Filipino food.

Overall, it is one of the better foodie places to hang out in when you are in the Shaw area aside from the usual Cookbook Kitchen and Galileo Enoteca.

Drinking Chocnut Coffee @ Green Halo Cafe… (Halo Cafe Menu 1 | 2 | 3 | 4)

Halo is famous for its organic and healthy menu, but it is also infamous for its waiting time of 30 minutes for one’s order. It is not that popular among the Cubao eXpo crowd, except for its Chocnut Coffee (P55).
