Comedy Cartel Open Mic FREE Session @ Kape Isla

The Comedy Cartel – The Best Stand-Up Comedy Act in Manila!

Here is an awesome tip for you. If you are in Serendra on Wednesdays 9pm, why not attend the Comedy Cartel’s Open Mic Session for FREE at Kape Isla? They would usually try new jokes in this open mic session so it would be fun. You’ll get to see Mike Unson bomb on some jokes. I brought my family last Wednesday at Kape Isla, and Mike Unson is the only comic who was able to make my Mom laugh. Of course, the rest of the gang were great as usual.

If you decide to eat in Kape Isla, you can order in Healthy Kitchen and have the food delivered at Kape Isla. It is perfectly OK because they have a partnership. Also, you got to try the local coffee @ Kape Isla. Enjoy!

Imang Salud Classic Ensaimada (P 160). One of the biggest classic Ensaimada in town based on an old family recipe inherited from Ivan Henares’ great-grandmother, Salud Dayrit-Santos of San Fernando, Pampanga. It literally melts in your mouth in softness with a yummy buttery taste and topped with generous servings of queso de bola. Also, one of my favorites in Imang Salud is the plantanilla, super sweet latik in egg crepe. You have to order in advance for the plantanilla.

Japanese Tofu Steak (P230 Takeout 600g). The savory tofu cakes of Denise Celdran (yes, the sister of Carlos Celdran) is raved about even by non-vegetarian foodies like us. The combination of tofu, peanuts, sesame seeds and japanese seaweeds is their best seller.

Freshly Made Vegetarian Noodles, Boiled or Stir Fried with Seafood (P90). The polanchai noodles are made on site. You can see how they mix the polanchai with flour and create the vegetarian noodles in the morning. People rave about Manvy not only because of its freshly made noodles but also the sauces you can put on your noodles. Think about it as mongolian dish where you have the following sauces as toppings: Peanut Sauce, Sweet Chili Sauce, Chili Sauce, Oyster Sauce, Sate Sauce and Soy Sauce.

Shaahi Paneer (P280 Regular) and Mango Honey Lassi (P120). Abhra is getting raves about his Indian Food and All Natural Drinks in the Legaspi Sunday Market. We like the Shaahi Paneer which is made from Indian cheese that is rubbery when cold and with a soft, mozzarella-type texture when cooked . For the first time, I like the taste of Lassi – a lactose free yogurt smoothie. The Masala Lassi (P100) and the Mango Honey Lassi (P120) are the best sellers.

California Berry Frozen Yogurt

California Berry Banana Split Signature Creation (P115) – Banana, Strawberry, White Chocolate chips

The resemblance of California Berry to the famous Pink Berry is obvious. The color scheme and menu is a bit similar. I like the frozen yogurt which tastes similar to Pink Berry as well. It was great to see nutrition facts for the California Berry yogurt.

The Ortigas outlet is actually small and hidden inside Silver City Mall. It is not an ideal place to hang-out because of its location beside the parking lot. I do hope they get a better location for their future outlets. You would need the map below to locate it.

I would recommend eating the frozen yogurt naked to really enjoy it.

My P&G Days...

8 Best Things I Miss About P&G

8 Best Things I Miss About P&G.

It is very hard to leave a company you loved for more than a decade. Like in any other love, you need to put a proper closure to it before you can move on. Allow me to put a proper closure on this part of my life by sharing with you the 8 Best Things I Miss About P&G.

When I graduated from college, there are only two things that I gained from 4-years in the University. (1) I learned how to study and teach myself new skills. (this would include cramming skills if you are on a tri-semestral schedule) (2) I gained a network of college friends who would help me later on in my life. I never remembered the subjects taught or the different extra-curricular activities I did in school.

As I reflect on my professional IT career, there are only three things that I gained from it. (1) I learned skills on project management, coaching, strategy and leadership. (2) The legacy of people I recruited, coached, and trained in P&G. Lastly, (3) a handful of true friends who really care about me and my family. I never remembered the stressful projects I worked on or the superficial relationships with other people in the office.

1. I miss my true P&G friends — Mong and Willeus. The three (3) of us entered P&G at the same time — June 5, 1995 straight from college.

2. I miss my dream IT team. To my Phils MDO and GBS Consumer Solutions team, it was an honor working with you guys!

3. I miss the P&G Marathon team. I am a marathoner. Thanks to Jim and all the pioneering members of the P&G Marathon Team.

4. I miss the sleep pod and innovative workspace environment that people loved. These days I work in innovative wi-fi cafes and hot spots.

Mom’s a Stewardess Viral Book

Reading Mom’s a Stewardess feels like reading the woman version of Bo Sanchez.

I travelled to Bohol to do a research on what an Ultimate Tour of Bohol would be. I only planned to spend two (2) days to explore the Chocolate Hills tourist route and Panglao Island. Unfortunately due to airplane flight constraints, I had to extend my stay for another day. I knew that I don’t have anything else to do on the third day except wait for the boarding time for my flight back to Manila.

I don’t know why I settled for this kind of predicament but I felt that I had to do it. I realized later on that it is God’s way of pausing my busy life. In that moment of peaceful existence waiting for my 5pm flight back to Manila, I finished reading Angel Viloria’s book : My Mom’s a Stewardess.

How I wish that I could write a book called “My Dad is a Steward”. I’m still in my “personal searching” stage. In a way, I find myself following Angel’s life path…

I decided to quit my CIO job for one of the best multinational company in the Philippines after close to 13 years of loyal employment. It was my first job so it was difficult leave. I felt like a traitor leaving all my stressed friends behind in the front line of the battle for improving consumer’s lives.

Angel left her professional career in the Philippine (audit) Rating Services Corporation for 14 years. Like her, I found peace in the company of my family, friends, and OAP friends after resigning. I became more thankful and in constant search for a meaning in life.

Kerygma Conference 2008 – Awaken the Miracle in You

” Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is the Lord.
He is like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream:
It fears not the heat when it comes, its leaves stay green;
In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit.”
(Jeremiah 17: 7-8)

I attended the Kerygma Conference 2007 with Aidan last November entitled ” You have the Power! Nourished. Empowered. Choi Garden – A Chinese Restaurant Worth Raving About

Read: 10 Most Awesome Chinese Restaurants in Manila! Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Choi Garden-21
Our family loves chinese food. On my father’s birthday, I reserved this special chinese restaurant — Choi Garden in Annapolis Greenhills. It is seldom that you hear a buzz on Chinese restaurants. Most people rave about Choi Garden because of the food prepared by their Hongkong Chef and the interesting interiors.

Choi Garden occupies the hole left by Country Waffles in Greenhills. It has two floors — the first floor is for shabu shabu, while the second floor is for fine dining. For special occasions, better reserve the rooms on the 2nd floor. The first floor is for casual meetings and romantic dates. Better reserve to get the best seats in the house. I love the dramatic tunnel entrance, and the interesting chandelier lighting effects. The word “opium den” comes to mind (I don’t know why) when I entered the first floor because of its bloody motif.

The specialties of the house are usually not found in the menu. Choi Garden is famous for their Pigeons (which you have to order in advance) and 3-way Lapu Lapu.

Choi Garden Pigeons (P350/ pigeon). I don’t eat pigeons ever because usually it is oily and rubbery in texture. This is the first time I’ve eaten pigeons because it is a bit crispy without the oil. A must try in Choi Garden for special occasions.

3-way Lapu Lapu (P3,000). First, the lapu lapu is served in Miso Soup. We kept raving about how good the soup is. It tastes like Japanese miso soup and appears like Lapu Lapu sinigang with a smoother taste.

The second way is to steam the lapu lapu with brocolli. The fresh and soft taste of lapu lapu stands out. There is no need for seasoning. My mom kept raving about this!

Finally, the rest of the lapu lapu is cooked adobo style in hot pot with tofu. This one got mixed reaction because it was mixed with meat and adobo sauce was super thick.
