SALTIMBANCO by Cirque du Soleil in Manila (Read this first before watching it!)

SALTIMBANCO is the longest running Cirque du Soleil touring show, which started way back in 1992. It comes from the Italian word "Saltare in Banco" which means "to jump on a bench". It is inspired by life in an urban city and the interesting people living in it.

Like other Cirque du Soleil shows, it displays artistic circus acts with colorful costumes weaved into a socially relevant story (with funny clown acts as intermission). It features original live music described as "ethereal yet baroque, rhythmic and cosmopolitan" and an invented language inspired by Arabic, Swedish and German.

The sun is out, and Saltimbanco brings timely, colorful fun to Manila. :) Finally, after 20 years, Filipinos can watch Saltimbanco on Philippine soil!

TOTEM by Cirque du Soleil (A Review)

I got the chance to  watch the opening night of TOTEM (at the AT&T park in San Francisco last October 28, 2011.) This is my 5th Cirque du Soleil show.   I had a great time with my memorable Varekai Act and I was hoping to experience the wonder again.

Totem  is an acrobatic show about man's evolution from our primitive origins to our current human state. This is a touring show that started in Montreal last April 2010. It is performed in Cirque du Soleil's signature big top tent known as Grand Chapiteau.

My Varekai Act :)

 

The first time a Cirque du Soleil show visited Manila, I ignored it. I thought it was just another circus.

But I was bitten by the Cirque du Soleil bug when I watched La Nouba at the Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida during our honeymoon. :)

I love Cirque du Soleil shows because of the wonderful storytelling, lighting, costumes, and original music, which set the tone for an unbelievable acrobatic show. It is a plus that they don't use any animals in any of their performances.

Needless to say, I got addicted.
