When it matters most... Animo La Salle!

Animo La Salle

As I clinched my fist and pumped it in the air as the entire La Salle gallery sang "Hail, Hail, Alma Matter," in unison, I can't help but shout "Go La Salle" as a second voice after each stanza of the song. Each word was shouted with pride and somehow we knew that when it matters most, the Green Archer delivered the 70-69 win over Ateneo. It never felt this good this UAAP season. Yes, like most die-hard Green Archer fan, I was in Araneta to support La Salle specially in the crucial last two minutes of the game and smell the sweet victory after the final buzzer.

Securing the second spot is crucial because La Salle gains the twice to beat advantage while Ateneo needs to beat UST to get a chance to play with La Salle again. Since UE swept the entire eliminations, they advance to the finals and a step ladder elimination is followed. I do hope Ateneo wins over UST so that we would have another Ateneo-La Salle game.

All of the big players delivered including JV Casio (21pts), Rico Maierhofer (13pts), Tyrone Tang (10pts), Peejay Barua (9pts)?, and Cholo Villanueva (7pts) who scored the winning point via a split free throw shot.

P.S. I noticed the Gang Green discouraging the La Salle gallery to do a wave. Why?

La Salle-Ateneo. 67-67 Overtime Game

Ateneo vs. La Salle Game 1 Overtime

The Sea of Greens vs. the Army of Blues...
Go La Salle Go Go La Salle vs. One Big Fight...
La Salle Spelling 3x vs. Blue Eagles Spelling...
The Green Archer Waves vs. the Blue Eagle Waves in the gallery..
The Half Time Face-Off between La Salle Pep Squad vs. the Blue Babble Battalion...
The student, Franz Pumaren vs. The teacher, Norman Black...
Rico Maierhofer, JV Casio, Cholo Villanueva and TY Tang vs. Chris Tiu, Ford Arao, and Jai Reyes squad...

I love La Salle vs. Ateneo games! I've been watching it ever since college days, way back in 1991. I love the drama, the cheers, and the "kantiyawan" before and after the games. I love the sense of pride that comes with supporting your alma matter in good and bad times. I love watching it with fellow alumni and officemates who share the same pride and joy in watching these games.

For me, the game ended at 67-67 Overtime. It was a great Casio-time story that we will never forget. It hurts to admit that we lost 80-77 in Overtime because of Chris Tiu's 3 point shoot. I have to congratulate Norman Black and the Ateneo squad for their first win against La Salle under Norman Black as coach in 3 years. I can still feel the pain caused by text messages, SUSPENDED kantiyawans, and boastful voices of an Atenista. I hate it but Congratulations! Congratulations is also in order for the wonderful half time show by the Blue Babble Battalion and gang. ( I hate writing this post... Arghh...)

Ateneo vs. La Salle
We watched together with my IDS team in P&G. Ethel was the only Atenista in our team vs. Joyce / Men and the rest of the La Salle gang. I admire Ethel for seating in the La Salle gallery and good thing, Ateneo won.

Remember, we lost the battle but not the war.... See you in the 2nd Round of La Salle vs. Ateneo.

Reminiscin' La Salle

Reminicin La Salle - 32
After 12 years, it was good to reminisce the formative days in college with a few alumni who can relate to our nostalgic sentiments. The towering Don Enrique T. Yuchengco Hall crushed our memories of the central gym where all the La Salle Basketball greats used to play.

Reminicin La Salle - 11
This Green and White scene is energizing to see with the usual tambayan crowd and young casual dressed students passing by. I would like to share with you some of our nostalgic thoughts and please free to share your own as well in the comments.

What do you remember most about your La Salle college days?

Lasalle Ateneo Nightmare Games?!

Lasalle Ateneo Dream Game 2005, originally uploaded by antondiaz.

It was so painful to watch it that you got to wake up from the dream. The dream game that you don't want to remember and one of the worst Ateneo-LaSalle game that I've seen.

First the facts, the games ended in a split. In the legends game, Lasalle won 63 to 59 of Ateneo with Sta. Maria 15pts and Jong Uichico 14pts leading the Lasallian Legends. In the All stars, Ateneo won finally at 88 over La Salle's 85 led by Fonacier at 28pts, and Villanueva with 27 pts. including the game winning 3 points shot with 1s left in the game. You can say its good karma for Rico who was punched by Yeo earlier and shot the game winning 3 points.

Awesome Green Archers Beating Ateneo 5-0 This Season!

Beat Ateneo, Animo La Salle!!

Yes, 2005 is the year that Ateneo wouldn't want to remember. We beat them in the Legends Game, All Stars Game, two (2) UAAP Regular Games, and today's semi-finals with 74-57 (17 points)! I can't believe it that we swept all the games with Ateneo this year (I'm glad I watched all of them in Araneta except for the first UAAP regular game). Oh how sweet it is to savor the semi-finals win and to read the greenarcher.net victory threads, and the atenista.net's sour graping threads and thank you threads.

But, we Lasallians have a lot to thank you for our archrival Ateneo in today's game:
-- Thank you Ateneans for putting a great fight and you make our winning a lot sweeter!
-- Thank you to LA for really showing his true blue spirit and he is the only one who had the guts and spirit to fight the entire green archer squad. It is soooo sad that he would end his UAAP career with a cramps as Yeo shot a three points in his face.
-- Thank you to the blue eagles for achieving your first lead at half-time this season at 22-25 with 15 points contributed by LA. We were scared for that moment.
-- Thank you to the blue babble pep squad for a great half time show that is a lot better than ours (in my opinion) except for the errors the band made.
-- Thank you to the Ateneo Crowd and Gordon for cheering your hearts out despite the odds. I know how it feels to lose and it is OK to cry. I also felt this once, when Ateneo beat La Salle two years ago during the championship.

-- You make us all proud in showing Ateneo that they can NEVER EVER beat us!
-- Thank you to Franz, for showing his coaching mentor, Norman Black that this is not the PBA and La Salle-Ateneo games are games about basketball spirit and alma matter pride.
-- Thank you to king archer, Joseph Yeo, for showing us how great you really are in slashing, and attacking the ring for a magical basket. We would never ever forget the allehoop you assisted to Rico for a reverse dunk. You can never imagine the joy that you bring to the entire LaSalle Gallery with that play.
-- Thank you to the La Salle Pep Squad for a funny half time show. Ateneans will never forget the Ryan Jig moves you did in front of the Ateneo gallery.
-- To the players, thank you for all the great plays and for showing composure in the 2nd half. We know that the lead in the 1st half of Ateneo will be their last -- we never doubted for a second.
-- Can you give us the photo "shot" taken by Aquino at the half court in the dying minutes? Thanks for having fun and for sure Ateneans will loathe it forever.

ANIMO LASALLE!! We will have one year to savor a 5-0 beating of our archrival, ateneo!

Top 10 Things Why I Love the UAAP & The La Salle Green Archers !

I love the virgin spirit of trying to win for our alma matter no mater what it takes.
I love it when Lasalle beats the Ateneo Pride and crush them during the last three minutes.
I love the excitement every time Arana scores beneath the goal with Japeth Aguilar defending.
I love the comedy of the Lasalle Pep squad that Ateneans cannot comprehend.
I love making the wave and seeing Ateneans with envy that they want do it too.
I love it when T.Y. Tang is not anymore afraid of Tenorio and it looks like the other way around now.
I love it that even with the height disadvantage, Lasalle would make Ateneo look small.
I love it when Franz Pumaren would make Norman Black an amateur in college basketball.
I love the play of the day when Arana started dancing to the tune of Go Lasalle Go Go Lasalle.
I love it when Ateneo Blue Babble makes an L sign during halftime which stands for LOSERS :)

Congratulations to the Lasalle Basketball team for beating Ateneo (again) 72-55 in yesterday's Ateneo - Lasalle 2nd round game and winning all the Ateneo-Lasalle games this year! Whether it is the Legends game, All-Star game, or the double round robin games, you guys make us so proud :) ANIMO LASALLE!!
