SAGE Bespoke Grill is the steakhouse restaurant of Makati Shangri-La specializing in Josper-grilled steaks.

We ate here twice recently and came up with some tips on what to order and how to have an awesome time at Sage…

STARTERS

Shangrila The Picnic-32.jpg

6 Oysters (P1,230). Shallot, Fresh Sea Grapes.

The oysters are fresh and served with vinegar and lemon.

Shangrila The Picnic-35.jpg
Iceberg Lettuce Salad (P360). Sour Cream, Bacon, Blue Cheese.

You have to cut through the crunchy iceberg and eat it topped with sour cream and blue cheese.

Shangrila The Picnic-34.jpg

Sage has really good creamy and hot soups to stimulate your appetite.

Shangrila The Picnic-36.jpg
Lobster Bisque (P450). Sherry and Paprika Cream.

You can taste the flavor of real lobster. It’s also not too thick with just the right creaminess.

Shangrila The Picnic-40.jpg
Edamame Soup (P400). Crab Meat.

For something interesting, order the Edamame-based soup with crab meat for contrast.

The bread platter is tempting, but skip it so that you don’t get full and you get to enjoy your steak.

STEAK

Shangrila The Picnic-10.jpg
Jacks Creek MB 5 (1,300 gram P8,200)Australian Wagyu Tomahawk.

The Australian Wagyu Tomahawk is the best steak in Sage with the perfect balance of meatiness and marbling. Seasoned with salt and pepper only.

Shangrila The Picnic-18.jpg
The steak is cooked in a Josper Grill using charcoal to properly cook the steak to your desired doneness.

Shangrila The Picnic-20.jpg

The steak is manually checked and flipped by the chef and then rested (outside the oven) for the same time it is cooked.

Shangrila The Picnic-24.jpg

It’s basted with butter infused with rosemary, bay leaves, green pepper, crushed garlic, black pepper, and finished with Himalayan salt.

Order an appropriate red wine to complement the steak.

MAIN DISHES

Shangrila The Picnic-51.jpg

Mixed Grill Surf and Turf (P4,720). Lobster Tail, River Prawn, Lapu Lapu, Sea Bass, Tenderloin, Rib Eye, Lamb Chop, Chicken Skewer, Pork Chop.

One of our favorite dishes in Sage is the Mixed Grill Surf and Turf with the best seafood and steak combination for family sharing.

Shangrila The Picnic-47.jpg

We love the rib eye, river prawn with a huge head, the lobster tail, lamb chop, and chicken skewer paired with grilled garlic.

Shangrila The Picnic-50.jpg

Signature Side Dish (P215 each). Josper Corn on the Cob, Creamed Spinach, Forest Mushroom, Mac and Cheese with Bacon and Peas.

Order the corn, spinach, and mushroom as side dishes, and the mac and cheese for the kids.

Shangrila The Picnic-54.jpg

Bouillabaisse (P3,305). Lobster Tail, Mussel, Prawns, River Prawns, Lapu Lapu, Squid, Seabass, Cheese, Croutons, Potato and Rouille Sauce.

Nobody does Bouillabaisse in Manila like this anymore with the right combination of seafood.

DESSERTS

Shangrila The Picnic-57.jpg
Banana Sticky Toffee Pudding (P315). Louisiana Pecan Nuts, Salted Caramel Ice Cream.

This is our favorite dessert at Sage–soft pudding with just the right sweetness from the toffee balanced with the salted caramel flavor.

Shangrila The Picnic-62.jpg
Chocolate Sphere (P315). Brownies, 70% Whipped Ganache, Poached Pear, Warm Chocolate Sauce.

Sometimes a good chocolate dessert is still the best ending to a good steak meal.

Shangrila The Picnic-64.jpg

SAGE is perfect for a family celebration or a steak milestone dinner date with your special someone. We think you’ll love the taste of Josper-grilled cooked meats the same way we do.

It’s best to go as a group of 8-10 people so that you can order the tomahawk steak and the mixed surf and turf for sharing.

Budget about P1,700/head plus wine.
