By Abigail Javellana

Climb Central

Climb Central Manila is a state-of-the-art, beginner-friendly climbing facility that started in Singapore with the firm belief that anyone can climb. What makes Climb Central unique is that they focus on beginners, with equipment that take away all the complications compared to traditional climbing gyms.

Climb Central
Climb Central is located inside the Portal at Greenfields District, Mandaluyong (near Shangri-la Plaza).

Climb Central
They gym has a 422-sqm facility and a 750-sqm climbable area with a total of 49 lines.

We loved that the whole area is fully air-conditioned, minimizing the sweat you get on your hands, which make gripping the rocks much harder.

Climb Central
Anyone aged 5 and above can climb, but they must be at least 20 kilograms in weight and 1.1 meters in height.

Climb Central
There are four easy steps before doing the climb. First, you register at the counter, make payment, and get your rental gear (climbing harness and climbing shoes)...

Climb Central
...then attend the mandatory 15-minute safety briefing, including how to operate the auto-belay and belay-safe harnesses.

Climb Central
We first tried doing the belay-safe at their kiddie wall for practice.

Climb Central
You'll also get your own tag that you can use on your next visit.

Note: The tag serves as your pass so you won't need to undergo the safety briefing again.

Climb Central
Climb central has 3 ways to go climbing...

Climb Central

For those who've tried climbing before, the most familiar is the Belay-Safe, which is basically climbing with a partner. One person climbs while the other holds the rope for him.

Climb Central

The pulley system of climb central makes belaying quite easy. We noticed that it helps minimize the stress you'd feel from the weight of the climber, unlike those from traditional climbing facilities.

Climb Central
They also have lead climbing, which is for more advanced climbers.

Climb Central
The other is the auto-belay, where you don't need a partner.

Climb Central

The auto-belay slows down descent and makes it safer for the climber. All you need to do is take the locking carabiner, secure it to your harness, and climb up.

Climb Central
When you're done climbing you can let go and the system will automatically lower you down slowly.

There's also going to be a boulder wall, which they will install in a few months' time.

Climb Central

In Climb Central there are a variety of difficulties for a climb. Beginners can start with the easy ones, while more advanced climbers can go for the hard ones.

One way to gauge a route is through the tags on every line. These give you the route name, route color, and level of difficulty of the route.

Lowest is level 4, all they way up to level 7. For beginners, we recommend not following the color and suggest climbing a rainbow pattern.

When it feels too easy, you can start with the 4, 5, and so on...

Climb Central

Overall, we loved Climb Central. Their climbing equipment makes climbing so much easier and fun!

The best part is the one-time climbing fee that is as good as an all-day pass, so you and your friends can climb, go out to have lunch, and come back to go climbing again.

And for those who simply want to enjoy climbing on their own, they can go for the auto-belay system.

P.S. The auto-belay feature is my favorite part.
