Let’s give you a short list of what to expect...

Authenticity

Octoberfest 2015!

The German Club & Sofitel esteem themselves in making sure your Oktoberfest experience is as genuine as possible. Festivalgoers can expect to see some people in the traditional Bavarian get up like the Lederhosen (for men) or Dirndl (for women).

Aside from the prominently known Lederhosen, the Bavarian male’s costume also has the following:

Trachten Shirt: Often white or a checkered blue in design, this is worn under the Lederhosen.

Lederhosen: This piece, of course, is the crux of the Bavarian costume. The Lederhosen is leather breeches that are worn with suspenders.

High Socks: These are often made of wool.

Haferlschuh: Although this Bavarian shoe was designed to be worn on Alpine terrain, it has now become a staple at occasions like the Oktoberfest.

Women at Oktoberfest typically wear the following:

Dirndl: This is the customary Bavarian dress with an apron.

Dirndl Blouse: This is a peasant blouse that can be made in various necklines.

Bodice: The bodice can be either attached to the dirndl or worn separately.

Apron: The apron is one of the most important pieces of the costume. It comes in a variety of patterns and often indicates which region of Bavaria the wearer is from.

Good Food (a lot of it) & Beer

Octoberfest 2015!

Oktoberfest would not be complete if we didn’t indulge ourselves with a large selection of Bavarian specialties like pork, beef, or chicken sausages; fresh sauerkraut, a hearty selection of roast meats, decadent pastries like Apple Strudel, cookies, gingerbread, and of course, beer.

Oktoberfest does not take beer lightly. Prepare your livers for free-flowing San Miguel beer! German beers may also be ordered if you’re looking for something a little different.

Octoberfest 2015!

Sauerkraut is one of the most popular German exports in the world. It is made from finely sliced green cabbage that has been fermented.

Octoberfest 2015!

Other than sausages, there is, of course, ham. The ham slices can be eaten with assorted mustards. The tart taste of the condiments really livens up the salty flavor of the meats.

Octoberfest 2015!

The Pork Schnitzel is a boneless meat that is tenderized by a hammer. It is then coated with flour, eggs, breadcrumbs, and fried until crispy. The crowd favorite!

Octoberfest 2015!

The Pork Knuckles are the stars of the carving station. Did you know that in last year's Oktoberfest, the crowd consumed nearly 320 kg of the stuff in 2 days?

Octoberfest 2015!

Apfelstrudel or Apple Strudel is only one of the decadent pastries we got to try out during the press con. The apples used were fresh and sweet.

Octoberfest 2015!

Aside from the meat extravaganza at the Carving Station, the venue also had a section full of different cold cuts of beef, pork, chicken, pickles, olives, smoked salmon, and cheeses. A meat lover's dream indeed.

Octoberfest 2015!

Did we mention Oktoberfest is a beer festival? You can expect to see many mugs being passed, swung, and chugged all around with all that free-flowing beer!

Singing, Dancing & Oompah Music

What better way is there to add the “fest” in Oktoberfest with singing, dancing, and Oompah music? Sway your overflowing mugs to the cheerful tunes of The Bavarian Sound Express! Team OAP suggests you start learning how to sing “Ein Prosit”, a very popular German drinking song.

Octoberfest 2015!

Singing, dancing, and having a good time is all part of the festival. Some might feel a little shy at first, but when more people start singing and dancing, there is no room for embarrassment (especially after a few beers)!
