THE WHOLESOME TABLE is an Organic Comfort Food Restaurant by Bianca Araneta Elizalde of Aria Boracay Fame.

All the produce comes from organic sources; they use free-range chicken and eggs, grass-fed beef, wild-caught seafood, and local artisan products. All the sauces are natural and made from scratch, and they don’t use high fructose corn syrup, refined sugar, or trans fats.

Their passionate commitment to all things wholesome and healthy is contagious.

It’s one of the best local restaurants to open in Manila this 2014! You’ve got to check it out…

It gets full for lunch on any day. Since they don’t take reservations, it’s best to go as early as 11.30am to ensure that you order the freshest ingredients and they don’t run out of stock.

Love the hip, organic vibe inside the resto. Sit near the windows for better privacy and natural lighting.

I personally love the food because the taste is cleaner. You don’t feel bloated after eating and there’s no guilt in indulging in it.

Wholesome Table 2-3.jpg
The freshly baked complimentary potato bread rolls are soft and a bit sweet. They have a good bite and pair well with the herbed butter.

Wholesome Table 2-7.jpg
ORGANIC MUSHROOM FRITTERS (P320 +10% service charge). Mozzarella-stuffed button mushrooms wrapped in our homemade Italian sausage, breaded and crisp-fried, and served with a fresh cherry tomato passato.

A bit complex with mozzarella, mushroom, Italian sausage, and breaded layers, but tastes so well combined with the cherry tomato sauce.

Wholesome Table-2.jpg
CRISPY CALAMARI (P200 +10% service charge). Lightly battered and fried sea-caught baby squid, served with homemade lemon garlic dip.

This is really good as a starter, too. Crispy, not too oily, and just enough to prepare your appetite.

Wholesome Table-26.jpg
✮ BURRATA (P270 +10% service charge). Delicious burrata cheese topped with grape tomatoes, fresh basil, and drizzled with balsamic reduction.

I would recommend this as a starter — soft, moist white cheese with sweet balsamic sauce, grape tomatoes, and basil, plus buttered garlic bread toasted just right on the side. I guarantee that you’ll be wiping that cheese off the bowl with your bread.

Wholesome Table-30.jpg
ORZO SALAD (P450 +10% service charge). A favorite in our household, our orzo salad is made with grape tomatoes, capers, fresh basil, mint, feta cheese, dried cranberries, arugula, and tossed in red wine vinaigrette.

A unique salad that is like grain pasta with green veggies, tomatoes, and cranberries. The orzo was tasteless on its own, so I was looking for a topping of chicken or meat to complete the flavor.

Wholesome Table 2-4.jpg
One of their most popular drink items are the Detox Juices in the Detox Bar. Each juice is prepared on the spot every morning.

Wholesome Table 2-16.jpg
✮ BE AWESOME (P250 +10% service charge) Detoxifying, Alkalizing. Kale, spinach, parsley, romaine, celery, cucumber, apple, lemon.

My favorite green drink (and rightfully so) the aptly-named Be Awesome is made from nutritious green veggies with apple and lemon flavors to give it a fruity sweetness. It’s light, refreshingly good, and best paired with your starters and salads.

Meet my partners from Zynappse for my latest project to be launched this August!

Wholesome Table-16.jpg
✮ THE BARCELONA (P690 +10% service charge)Spanish-inspired pizza with tomato sauce, turkey chorizo, shiitake mushrooms, roasted garlic, fresh mozzarella, and Grana Padano.

The pizza toppings here are better than Aria’s because they don’t use canned ingredients anymore. The only processed ingredient they use are the cheeses. I love the turkey chorizo and mushroom toppings. I also liked how chewy and well-charred the dough was; it was fun to eat.

Wholesome Table-20.jpg
✮ SALMON IN BASIL CREAM SAUCE (P380 +10% service charge). Fresh salmon tossed in organic cherry tomato passato and creme fraiche.

This pasta is awesome! They use a lighter cream, organic tomato sauce, and fresh salmon bits. You don’t get that bloated feeling eating this, unlike the pastas from the Aria days.

Wholesome Table-22.jpg
Braised Pork Fettuccine (P430 +10% service charge). Slow milk-braised pork shoulder in a light jus, arugula, and Pecorino Romano.

Milky shredded pork pasta, which should have been served with penne instead of spaghetti. We ate during merienda time so there were a lot of ingredients that were already out of stock, like the penne.

Meet my friend Abi, who will be helping me with Our Awesome Planet. Welcome aboard! 🙂

Wholesome Table 2-22.jpg
✮ EGGPLANT PARMIGIANA (P350 +10% service charge). Layers of eggplant, tomatoes, mozzarella, and tofu bits in a rich tomato sauce, served with garlic bread.

It’s so good, I can’t believe this eggplant lasagna does not have any meat! A must-order. 🙂

Wholesome Table 2-8.jpg
The staff are very friendly; they retained the best ones from Aria and recruited a better crew.

Wholesome Table 2-19.jpg
✮ MEATLOAF (P580 +10% service charge). Two thick slices of homemade meatloaf served with creamy, organic mashed potatoes and topped with bacon mushroom gravy.

The meatloaf is made from pure meat, with a light mushroom gravy and silky-smooth mashed potatoes on the side. Really good for your meat-loving companions.

Wholesome Table 2-23.jpg
CHICKEN MARSALA (P750 +10% service charge). A house favorite chicken dish of Marsala-braised chicken with oven roasted vegetables. *Please allow 15 mins. for cooking

This dish was put together well — just the right amount of sweetness with roasted vegetables and mushrooms. They use very lean free-range chicken from Pamora farm, which can be tough and chewy if the kitchen doesn’t know how to prepare it.

Wholesome Table-28.jpg
✮ BOUNTY OF THE SEA (P650 +10% service charge). Fresh seafood stew cooked in a light seafood broth with garlic cloves, lemon, tomatoes, herbs and served with a side of crusty garlic bread.

If you’re looking for good value for money and something healthy but yummy, I recommend this seafood platter for your main dish. The seafood is fresh in a serving size that is big enough to share. The broth was light, creamy, and with just the right oceany taste.

Wholesome Table 2-27.jpg
✮ BE WORTHY (P350 +10% service charge). Banana, almond butter, hemp, vanilla, cacao, maca, sole, honey, chia seeds, almond milk.

For dessert, I recommend the smoothies, which beat the Jamba Juice smoothies any time of the day. Go for the Be Worthy for that energy boost and to satisfy your sweet craving and end your meal on a high note. 🙂

Wholesome Table 2-30.jpg
They give you a spoon instead of straw. I like that they are very conscious about the environment, too.

Congratulations, Bianca for creating a winning Organic Restaurant concept in Manila! Awesome indeed!

Wholesome Table-24.jpg

This gets my vote for one of 2014’s Most Awesome Restaurants in Manila!

Highly recommended for foodies looking for something unique and healthy, for barkadas planning an organic food trip, and for balikbayans wanting to taste something they can be proud of from our very own Filipino Restaurateurs. 🙂

Most of their food is healthy, clean-tasting, and really good. My personal recommendations would be the Burrata, Salmon in Basil Cream Sauce, Eggplant Parmiagana, and Bounty of the Sea. For drinks, remember to order the Detox Juices such as the Be Awesome to start your meal, and their smoothies, like the Be Worthy, for dessert (the actual dessert list is not that exciting).

For meat lovers like me, it’s good to know that they only serve Grass-Fed Beef. I look forward to trying their tenderloin on my next visit. Budget about P800/head.

The era of healthy, organic, and wholesome food in Manila is finally here! Let me know what your favorites are in the comments. 🙂

  1. Hi, Anton how are you? Thanks for your blog article. This is a nice restaurant that serves organic foods and dishes. I think that their foods and dishes are really organic because the prices are quite expensive. This is similar to Traders Joe here in San Francisco Bay Area. The organic items like eggs, milk, coffee, bread, and so on are really expensive. Unfortunately, many people right now have cancer because of eating instant foods, preserved foods, processed food products, and fast food products.
I love crispy calamari and seafood stew. Nakakagutom naman niyan. Their drinks are also organic and I like carrot juice. I hope that they have organic ice cream. I love ice cream, too and I don’t like ice cream that are too sweet even the juices and drinks. I like the style and ambiance of the restaurant. Definitely, I will visit the restaurant later. Have a nice day always.

  2. this is a great concept but i do hope they keep everything consistent. I’ve dined there 4 times since they opened and I’ve noticed the presentation and taste differ with every visit. my meatloaf didn’t evn look like the one you have here, mine was a bit burnt and a glob of sauce. it was already coagulated and too little.
the farmers soup started out well, but the next time it lacked flavour and just had a few vegetables in it.
the scotch egg was perfectly cooked too (at the start) soft boiled egg fried to perfection but on our third visit it was already hard boiled.
maybe i will give it another try (or not), but not too soon.

  3. Hi,
I wanna know what cookwares they are using in cooking the food. Because cookware also matters in serving clean and healthy food.
    Thank you 😉

  4. i only believe that it is real healthy food (or not) when I see the cookwares used in cooking… healthy eating should start from the cookware!

  5. A not so WHOLESOME experience @ The Wholesome Table.
I had HIGH HOPES for this so called “organic” restaurant. For starters, the mushroom fritters were crispy and tasty. But sadly, the excitement plummeted over the next two dishes. The veggie burger was soggy and the fries were hard. The pizza, which I thought was going to be the saving grace, was such a disappointment. It was bland, period. Waiting for a table outside was not worth the time and effort.
I’ve eaten enough to know good food from others. Unfortunately, this restaurant has failed the test.
Those who claim to know good food, can’t tell the difference.

  6. Just had lunch there and owner bianca kept walking around eyeing every table with a dead serious look. i guess she was trying to check if everones order was plated presentably. she could have atleast smiled at the guests instead of just prowling. It made me & my group uncomfortable as she was just standing behind our table & staring intently at our orders with a serial killers expression. Food was okay but there were a lot of items that were not available. I liked the smoothies but other than that its the usual organic fare that you’ll see in a lot of so called “healthy/organic” restos. wait time was also ridiculous. It took 45 minutes for our orders to arrive & staff kept recapping our orders (like thrice) for no apparent reason. oh well..
